I really loved the Love in Paradise spinoff, after watching it I can definitely see why Melicia mentions the possibility of Yohan using Danielle to get to America because they kind of were using it as a storyline but at the end of the season I could tell that he does love Danielle. My husband is from overseas and despite my warnings of a “better life” here and how hard I have to work for my money, he didn’t “get it” until he was actually here and he working. He now knows that despite the money he makes, there’s not much left after paying living expenses, taxes, insurance, groceries, etc and less than he thought to send to his family let alone save it.
@@fluffytail6355 Yes however, how ever much you think is a little bit of money in the U.S., it is significantly lower in the DR. At least in the U.S. you can get a more livable place to live compared to the home that Yohan and his family was sharing and still having no money left over.
Yeah there's a thing called immigrant optimism when recent immigrants are really happy and positive about being in the U S because it's more than what they had back home. However the longer they stay here the more they begin to have U.S problems and start to see the downsides of the U.S.

As American I think a lot of us especially the ones on this show are ditzy, inconsiderate, and obsessed with love. Kudos to Gabe's sister for calling him out on his BS. Never a good idea to get a lover's name tattooed on you. Also didn't like the fact he couldn't care less about his GF's kids. Giving me Big Ed vibes, how he disregarded Rose's child and didn't want to spend time with him or connect. And that's essentially what Gabe is getting at... that they're old enough he doesn't need to do anything with them. What if they were younger though? To me it's a red flag. You want a partner who is gonna be good to your kids too, not just you. If it's just a fling, that's one thing. But if it's a long term marriage commitment thing, that's a whole other story.
That person would then be essentially playing a father figure role in their life. And you don't wanna settle for someone who doesn't treat your kids like they matter.

Lack of health insurance, the level of poverties across all 50 states, police brutality, restricted rights for women, all because he wants to be able to afford materialistic belongings he never had before.I don’t know why Yohan didn’t just apply for citizenship in Spain when they grant citizen to any group of people they colonised with Spaniard ancestry. Much better than the US with a chance to live and enjoy life, also not to mention would help relieve his language barrier. The struggle in the DR is real, it doesn’t mean the struggle won’t disappear in the US.
I do believe also though that Danielle doesn’t want to be used and that’s another reason why she’s pushing to move there, she’ll see once the glamour of the DR and exoticness ends.
As an immigrant, America, and western countries are among the countries you don’t need to go to school to become something. You could go to law school in Africa and still be jobless. The opportunities are better, it is just that people don’t look for them.
If you living in the US and you feel like this that just means you’re willing to make yourself a victim and not take responsibility that your life is in your hands and you have the opportunity to move to any of these United States and make your dreams come true.
Probably it's still better than where he is now. She knows his circumstances, and is still denying him the opportunity to make his life better. Nobody will understand the pain of being in your thirties in a country with few opportunities. When you've not reached the point of financial freedom (somewhat) your self-esteem takes a knock. If you are going to date someone from a country like that, that must be understood. To constantly accuse people of being scammers is shameful.
