Coming back to this review after a while and having listened to Ought's entire discography for about as long, I'm reminded of a line from a written review that I can't quite remember the source for, but it kind of outlined why Tim Darcy never really goes into the whole "really unhinged mode", and the whole "I'm no longer afraid to die; 'cause that is all that I have left... YES" thing on Beautiful Blue Sky highlights it very well also. He takes what the review called a "liberating approach" to his nihilism. Now that I know the band's work as well as I do, I feel that describes it perfectly. I don't think the effect would be quite the same if he followed more in the footsteps of, say, an Elias Bender Ronnenfelt (Iceage).
Just found this band through the song Beautiful Blue Sky. While I do get the sense that they are poking at societal norms and pleasantries, I do think there is the admittance that that is "all that we have." That with the beautiful blue sky provides the courage to face death, then dance. Amazing song.

The opener is becoming my favorite track on this album. In parts, it even sound like a mid-90's Thurston Moore solo album (vocals). Quite a grower, this. Canada: PLEASE keep sending over more dark, post-punky bands!

Listening to some tracks off this album I'm hearing some similarities and think you might want to check out his stuff if you weren't already aware of it, not like to review or anything, since none of it is current, he died in the early or mid-80s if I remember right.
