  • Lisa Gade reviews the updated HP Envy 14 laptop for 2021. Taking a page from the Envy 15 playbook, this Ultrabook-sized 14” laptop packs dedicated NVIDIA graphics into a premium aluminum chassis that’s significantly less expensive than the competition. The Envy 14 has a 16:10 aspect ratio display (touch and non-touch available), Intel 11thg gen Tiger Lake quad core CPUs with Intel Iris Xe graphics + NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q dedicated graphics. The laptop has a fingerprint scanner, electronic webcam privacy shutter, dual cooling fans and weighs 3.3 lb / 1.5 kg.

It has 5 days of use. I ran the HP test and it tells me that the performance is ok but it seems to me super little even compared to average laptops. @@doublej5045 You gotta narrow down your choices from Specs - CPU, GPU - 1st, Form Factor - 2-in-1, clamshell, tablet - 2nd, Price Point 3rd, Brand 4th, and Top Picks 5th.
If you don't need 2-in-1, you should look at regular clamshell ultrabooks. They will have the advantage of being slightly lighter, longer lasting, and much cheaper. Personally I'd get the 13" MacBook Air if I didn't need a 2-in-1.

Windows ultraportable laptops don't make sense post Apple M1 base model Macbook Air. I now prefer to use a Thunderbolt Dock when on a desk or a small dongle when on the move. I most buy USB-C devices so I'm slowly getting rid of the dongles. I however can't imagine using my laptop with everything plugged to its own port on the laptop. Having just one cable to my laptop is just tidier. I feel like the whole argument of number of ports is not valid. Most times I use my laptop with nothing plugged to it so that I can be more mobile.

A really good review overall, but i just got mine and contrary to what was said the envy has a lot of creaking and i have to be careful how i hold it not to break something (already, ive had a few incidences where i hear a very loud crack , even though i see nothing visibly wrong). As a student, this is a huge issue to constantly be concerned about the built quality while on the go. Not to mention, its not really the most portable machine at 3.3lb. i live in Canada so i thought maybe my model is different but i highly doubt it. On the other hand, its amazing and beautiful as a desktop laptop and in just general when its stationary, no complaints there

@@CantankerousDave Exactly. Unlike MacBooks, Windows 10 laptops don’t switch the backlight off and on automatically. Either way I like having the backlight on all the time regardless of the laptop for extra visibility, and on this laptop having the backlight on makes it even harder to see during the day.

who cares about the display not going bac far enough who uses a display tilted like that, for what reason? My macbook pro does not go that far back but I just realized it because I had no reason to use it like that

What's wrong with oems... How can they use Intel for ultra books.... Makes no sense at all... Intel is power hog with its 14++++++++++.. Ryzen is extremely powerful and power efficient that's perfect for ultrabooks... Am I going crazy or there's something else going on here 😳

On top of AMD having a much smaller scale of production than Intel, there is this ongoing major issue called *GlOBAL CHIP SHORTAGE.* Maybe you heard of it.

SO I got my 15" Envy.... yeah, they don't tell you that MICROSUCK bitlocks the SSD, and codes it so that it's difficult to install Linux on it! Ridiculous. Secure Boot and UEFI suck!

And here we go again. High end product, great build quality, great everything, except no AMD... Equals trash for me. Don't know how long we have to wait for manufacturers to start including AMD in their top lineups.

Why on earth they do such a keyboard!! In terms of letter visibility! And they are daring still to not give a black-color variant!! 13 inch one has a black variant. Possibly the 15inch as well👎

@@ezmod0 I would have understood a cut short in specs to keep it within the budget range. But I don't know if cutting short a color variant saves anything!! If at all they should consider cutting short this silver variant.
