@@liamphibia Technically the audience could have gotten it by just Davey remembering it afterwards without Davey telling the story. Storywise it had to got the other way.
Honestly, my favorite part of the movie was just seeing the scenes of Davey bonding with Whitey and Eleanor. I just wish Whitey had told Eleanor, "I'll talk to you later."
Poor Davey and Jennifer, I’m sure Davey’s parents raised him better than all the bad things he’s been doing in his adulthood. And so sad Jennifer and Davey stopped talking to each other and she moved to another town with her mom and had a son with another man who left them both for some woman he met on the internet.
They partially raised him, but didn't get to see the task through to the end. That was probably worse for Davey than anything. He didn't even get to finish developing as a child before losing them. It wasn't about what they taught him after that, it was just about his pain. He didn't wanna act out all the time, but in a world that moves on with or without you when tragedy strikes, nobody was there to really unpack all of Davey's trauma and unheard feelings over his parent's demise. The whole point of the film is for Whitey to help Davey get past all the untouched trauma and destruction in his life and for Davey to open up and be less destructive in turn, helping out Whitey at the end get the recognition he deserved for being a pillar of the community for years.
I sympathize with Davey in this scene, Literally nobody wants to relive the memory of the day that their parents died. In fact I wouldn't have blamed Davey had he just straight up told Whitey to shut up about it. I mean he may have told Whitey a number of times to stop but I'm talking hypothetically if Davey yelled at Whitey to shut up. Although Whitey did have a point when he said that Davey didn't know how to handle finding out about his parents deaths, Because as he said how is a 12 year old kid supposed to just cope with something like that? Plus it was evident that everyone in Dukesberry saw Davey as a lost cause, Because thanks to his reputation no one ever tried to help Davey properly cope with his loss. But it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, Because for people like Davey no amount of therapy or emotional support could ever fill the empty void that he had in his heart after his parents died. And when I hear Whitey say that Davey walked from foster home to foster home, The way he said that makes me think that Davey probably became such a juvenile delinquent after this that he probably kept getting kicked out of foster homes, Until he aged out of the system.
It really does suck that Davey lost his parents and it makes a little sense in why he would shut down and become an asshole but Whitey should’ve shut up when told to stop talking about it the first time. Nobody ever wants to relive a traumatic memory period and openly talking about it is gonna do anything but make that person feel better. Unpopular opinion but, Davey had every right to be pissed at Whitey and Eleanore.
People say his parents dying in a car accident being the reason behind his behavior was offensive and handled poorly but it's kind of realistic if you think about it
They said it themselves in the team huddle, he'd have to take every shot all the time. He was nicer back then and just wanted to have fun with his friends, judging by his reaction when Jennifer says "you'd have to take all the shots" He seems hesitant to do so and only gets on board with it when all of his teammates agree with the plan.
To be fair,If Davey read his parents’ card after his parents death in a car crash,he would’ve never evolved into a troublesome, obnoxious, miserable, cynical, bitter, and lawbreaking jackass who takes his anger and torment out on anyone and make them just as miserable as he is. Also, the movie could’ve been better if they made everyone more worse than Davey and gave him more justified reasons and flashbacks on why he became such a unpleasant,mean-spirited,and troublemaking jerk with a criminal record towards everyone after his parents death. Also, for Whitey, I kinda feel on his defense,he should’ve never made Davey act rude and snap at him and Eleanor after he made him brought up his sad backstory that made him so uncomfortable and I do agree Whitey had every right to evict Davey from his house anymore since he lost his temper and mocked and insulted him and his sister,Eleanor, even in front of Jennifer, his childhood sweetheart.
Exactly you just don't be rude to someone like that at all thats what the people aren't understanding that whitey had to tell his sister that so she could feel bad and sorry for davey. I really felt bad for whitey i could hug him
I like whitey but like damn he asked you to stop man no one wants to relive the day of someones death 😭😭 I mean davey was being so nice until you brought it up😭
Dude davey was getting bettet before he snapped not gonna lie je even liked whitey and his sister at that point and didn't insult anyone for good minute damn
Okay I've been having this opinion bottled up in me for quite some time. It might sound like I'm rambling and I'm just giving another one of those "keyboard warrior essays" but just listen. For those saying Eight Crazy Nights is a bad movie just hear me out. 99.9% of people who say that have either A: only saw snippets of this movie but not the whole thing, or B: just straight up don't like Adam Sandler. Let me just say this: I've gotten to see exclusive interviews with Adam Sandler like on 60 Minutes, etc. He is one of the nicest people ever. Before anyone says "Oh he was kicked off of SNL, blah blah" stop right there. SNL let him go because they announced his sketches to be "off script, absurd, crude, etc." If an actor can't be themselves for 5 minutes and make people laugh (even if it's crude) Then don't have him or her on. It's like they wanted an excuse to fire someone just to say "We SNL have the moral high ground." Anyways I forgot I'm talking about a movie here. You can maybe fix whatever negative thoughts you have about Eight Crazy Nights if you just sit back, play the movie, and watch. Simple. This story is compelling and well written. While I'm not THAT big of a fan of animation, unless it's Dreamworks, Disney, Pixar, etc, the fact that someone as obnoxious and rude as Davey Stone loses his parents at a young age and didn't know how to accept things, he turns around and makes up for his wrongdoings is at least great. Not many people in real life do that. Think of them as friends, they come and go, and stay gone. And yes, Davey did have every right to snap back at Whitey in this scene. He was crossing a line and he knew he was. Just think, if someone sitting across from you at a family gathering started sputtering your personal emotional business to someone else (right in front of you) and other people were engaging (without your okay or approval) how would you act? Maybe want to stand up and defend yourself of course. Feel free to disagree, I know I'm rambling about a 5-minute movie scene, but this is just my opinion. This scene still hits hard today and I just wanted to express it.
NC: And, you know, just as a testament to how fucking bad this movie really is, even with the backstory that his parents were killed when he was young, they STILL make him too unlikable to sympathize with! Yes! Because with ALL due respect Whitey continuously talking about the death of Davey's parents and didn't stop when Davey asked him to was no excuse to be snapping at him 😑🙄
The fact they came back and won was a fairytale story enough so that could’ve been a good stopping point for the story and Elenor could’ve just ate her fucken corn dog.
Though what Davey said was harsh but I get why he acted like that Whitey just kept going on and on about Davey's tragic story and Whitey's sister even nagged about keeping the story goin like "shut up you two can't you hear and see the dudes hurting bad"
davey wabted the story to stop at the point where he won the game but Whitey's sister wanted to know the rest and davey tried to tell him to not contuine it but he did it anyway anf it caused davey to snap!
The worst part of Davey snapping is that by this point Davey was gradually warming up to Whitey even giving him his vote for the awards. But Whitey had to go and ruin it. If he left it alone and let him talk about his parents death when he was ready this whole fall out never would have happened.
Ignoring the trauma of losing one or both parents at a young age (Life is Strange handles it better, imo), I’m wondering where Davey gets his money despite having no visible form of employment. A monthly check from the state?
in the first part of the movie we see him dine and dashing dude prob steal stuff here and there and maybe do odd jobs too and as we prob guess mostlikely half ass them
Okay everyone KNEW daveys perents died I mean whitey had to tell his wife so she could know and WE viewers felt bad but davey was still wrong about insulting whitey so two wrongs DON'T make a right if you will.
davey was so right for snapping at them over this
Whitey should have just kept his mouth shut, this was none of his business.

Alr in Davey’s Defense in this scene he asked whitey multiple times to stop talking about it? Like that’s his business 😭
That's why I don't talk about someone's life story. Because they get up to your business.
Exactly I feel he may have eventually opened up and actually improved if he never brought it up
Actually it was 3 times.
Which is more than enough for anyone to stop bistering someone else about a sensitive subject. @@Josie-u1s
True also I feel this scene would’ve worked a lot more better if we had a couple more scenes with Davey being nice

3:44 WE GETTING OUT OF WHITEYS HOUSE WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The humor is a bit hit or miss, but my god these emotional scenes really hit you
They don’t let you feel anything cuz it’s undercut by the crap humor
He asked them multiple times to stop talking about it, damn
I know right? That part always bothered me because Davey was in the right to get angry because Whitey told HIS story despite him telling him to stop.
That's why I don't share my life story with people who keeps getting into people's business.
I know right! And we’re supposed to let whitey blabber on because he “doesn’t know any better?” He’s a referee how could he not know any better!
@lilamaria2547 I mean, taking her wig was just a dick move. She wasn't the one telling the story, after all.
Whitey was kind of slow mentally

keep talking about a tragic past when asked to give it a pass. that's a technical foul

Mr. Roboto didn’t come out till 1983

yeah i don't really see how that's poor writing
If Davy was that good, why was the team always losing?
Lebron effect
its called team. davey letting the other kids play than just being solo.
@easymixedsignals534 you're better off screwing the team if that's the case

it's Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler!
I completely forgot Adam voiced Whity and Eleonore. That man is a good voice actor.
I asked my English teachers if we can watch this before the Christmas break. Hopefully they say yes.
Edit: I forgot to remind her 😭
I feel like they would've said no anyway. This movie has multiple swears and some potty humor.
Do it this year
This really wasn't Whitey's business. He really should have shown him more respect
I have a traumatic backstory i dont like talking about it. I always lash out when people try talking to me about it
