Was going to post the same. So that everyone is on the same page: It is a volcanic island, probably the tallest natural landmass in the game world, and consistent with other games its geographic position is to the north east relative to Hyrule Castle and the Temple of Time.
I do not remember if it is confirmed anywhere in The Wind Waker whether the bomb flower is native to Dragonroost but I doubt that their abundance is a coincidence.
A bit more tentative link is that all 3 wandering goron traders in The Wind Waker express that they have a good friendship with the postman and that they make frequent use of postal services, and of course Dragonroost is where the postal service is headquartered. A throwaway tease from the writers perhaps, but also maybe nothing.

At some point, Eldin Volcano became Death Mountain after what I assume was a volcanic eruption so fierce, it’s pretty much Hyrule’s equivalent to Pompeii… So much death and destruction… it’s what probably wiped out the Mogmas to extinction… When this happened was probably when the Era of Chaos occurred sometime after Skyward Sword… Though whether or not it was a natural disaster or a magic catastrophe remains unknown…

That was the very first question that came into mind when I heard the name for the first time since Skyward Sword.
Why go back calling it Eldin Volcano when it was solidified as Death Mountain?
      The Answer…
The devs gave up trying to make the established lore relevant and for the sake of storytelling decided to stray from that. Also, to make the plot point of the “Prime Energy” being associated with the 3 regions relevant… EOW could be a reality of Hyrule where Null exists, people have no memory of Ganon (who he was nor his actions in ALTTP and such…), and the aforementioned eruption I mentioned… But then again, where are the Mogmas? Why call the Triforce the “Prime Energy”? The Triforce was known by its true name since Hylia first ruled the surface. (In Twilight Princess’s case, the individual crests were never called the Triforce; justified because the 3 pieces never reunite this time around…)
With these questions in mind… I just no longer care. I’m staying true to what was previously written before the lore was shifted in multiverses.

I'd argue Death Mountain and Eldin Volcano are the same place, due to the fact that whenever we see regions of Hyrule labeled "Eldin," it ALWAYS features a volcano, and that volcano is usually called Death Mountain. Also, it appears in Wind Waker under "Dragon Roost Island," as it is literally supposed to be the summit following the great flood

I feel like the field areas in Link to the Past, a Link Between Worlds, and Minish Cap should count as Hyrule Fields. They're not explicitly called like that because they're less of a single area, and more like an overworld that stretches over many screens and therefore isn't given an explicit name. It's still the large field area around central Hyrule though, so I'd still consider those appearances of Hyrule Field.
Also, you walk through Hyrule Field briefly near the very very end of Wind Waker. If Lost Woods counts as appearing in Majora's Mask, then I think Hyrule Field should count as appearing in Wind Waker. That bumps Hyrule Field's appearances up to 10, which gets it close to the podium.

Hebra Mountain may have formed volcanically and been called Death Mountain while it was active. Volcanic hotspots tend to move over long periods. Since Death Mountain is the name of the Hyrulean active volcano, when the geologic hotspot moves, so does the name. So I think it's plausible for EoW to have both locations be the same as long as it takes place a very long time apart from BotW.

Spirit Tracks further complicates everything because it's not the unflooded Hyrule, it's a land Link and the Pirates found and established a new kingdom on. But, it has locations from old Hyrule (such as The Lost Woods) which brings with it a few questions?
1: how many times HAS Hyrule moved.
2: if the locations move around, does that indicate movement of the kingdom?
3: if the Kingdom moves and a new location takes on the name of a location from the old kingdom, is it the same location?
For example, the Lost Woods is in the south-eastern part of the Zelda 1 map and the Zelda 1 map appears to exist in the southern region of the Zelda 2 map.
However, A Link to the Past, a Prequel to Zelda 1 and 2 has the Lost Woods in the North-eastern portion of the map, not far from the Castle which exists in neither Zelda or Zelda 2.
Can this Lost Woods be counted as the same location as the Lost Woods in Zelda 1? And if not, can we really call the Spirit Tracks Lost Woods the same location as the other Lost woods(plural)?
Or, could it be possible that the Lost Woods itself is a transitional space, moving around to protect areas as the Godesses requires: be it the Kokiri, Koroks, Master Sword, or Triforce.
This could, of course, be an explanation for the Lost Woods in Holodrum as well which is a location protecting both the Noble Sword and one of the essences.

    • @dennis141187
      @dennis141187 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I was thinking the same about the Lost Woods. Maybe it’s not a “fixed” place, but a sort of magic/protection from the gods or the Deku Tree, that can be placed on a specific location depending on where a Deku Tree resides or the mastersword/triforce needs protection.
So then it might not be the same location, but a different location that has the same protecting elements and/or name.

Especially as you did count the Spirit Tracks Lost Woods, even though New Hyrule is an entirely different place to “old” Hyrule which got flooded. Or in katakana, ゲルドアーム, Gerudoarm. Similarily, the sandman enemies in the Desert of Mystery, the Geldmen, in Japanese are called ゲルドマン, Gerudoman and because the Gerudo Script of a cipher of the English alphabet, the 1997 maps we got from the Overdump cartridge has the following text in the Gerudos' unused tents in the valley: "GELD, PEOPLE OF THE SAND". It also shows the migration of zora from what used to be the ancient sea to the new lanayru providence and suggests an evolution from salt sea to river water Zora. My prediction is that either Death Mountain or Lost Woods are going to be the most recurring places.
But I count the Eldin named highest peak as Death Mountain as well. Mainly because that happened IRL chronologically as a trend. Like they stopped calling the Mountain Death Mountain and switched to a lighter name. I think it's to keep the younger rating applicable to their games more than anything. Death Mountain has been in pretty much every Zelda title I've ever played. And while I haven't played them all I have played a bunch of them. Also the name Death Mountain seems to transcend Hyrule. Pretty sure the Oracle games had that name for a Mountain as well. Possibly in each game which were set in 2 very different places. But I can't remember all the locations in those two titles as I haven't played them fully in probably over 15 years. Which made me excited when I saw them pop onto the Nintendo game boy streaming thing. Very awesome. Been trying to get back to them.
Anyway Lost Woods is my other contender because it has also basically been in every Zelda I've played in one way or another. Some wooded area where you have to follow some weird path or get tossed out for "being lost". So most of them being named Lost Woods makes them count as basically the same place. At least in my book.
Aside from that the only other place that has technically appeared in the most games is probably Hyrule Castle. But it's rarely the same castle. And since that's a structure and not a region it's hard to give it the same leeway as the other 2 I mentioned. Not same castle shouldn't count as same place. Regions are a little more vague in how you can categorize them.

You can add 1 for Death Mountain, 1 for Kakariko Village and 1 for Lost Woods, since they appear in Wind Waker, but due to massive changes they got changed so much. and names too. You've considered the Desert from ALTTP to be the Gerudo one, so Wind Waker then is all around Ocarina as well
Dragon roost island have a dozen of hints that it's actually a death mountain, yet it is subtle - leftover of a previous civilization of Goron before leaving, Crater of the volcano have the music very similiar to that in Dodongo's cavern, there is a fairy fountain pretty close on and it is located in the same spot in relation to sunken Hyrule Castle in the middle and Forest Haven.
Now about Forest Haven, there is even more of those hints that it once was Kokiri Forest and Lost Woods with Deku Tree still being there and some buildings in the forbidden part being Kokiri leftovers.
But where Kakariko fits in this? Well, there is Windfall Island, it is not just spiritual successor there is pretty much a lot of hints like the windmill and a stone specifically behind it. While Wind Waker's map is VERY HUGE in proportions do note that desert and lake hylia are out of consideration so it is a closed view of that part of Hyrule.

While hylian geography is seldom consistent, there are a few general consistencies. Hyrule Castle is almost always in the center of the map. Lake Hylia is usually in the South. Death Mountain/the local volcano is in the North. The desert region is in the southwest. Of course, these are the broader general areas, and while they do move around a little, they are almost always found at these compass points.

Technically Hyrule field does not appear in Zelda one but does appear in Zelda 2, as the entirety of the first game takes place in death mountain. That's why death mountain in the second game is just a scaled down map of the original. The biggest problem with the maps though is that Nintendo doesn't care about the timeline, fans do. Nintendo prioritizes gameplay over story, and never intended for there to be a cohesive timeline as that would restrict their ability to make fun games if they had to worry about it falling neatly in line with other games. Miyamoto himself said that they saw it as 2 games in the same "world" then a complete reset. The timeline was an afterthought that started between TP and SS as a result of fan demand, and was released alongside the latter. I think spiritual successors should count for that reason. I don't hate the timeline but I also don't think it should be held in such high regard, especially since Nintendo has repeatedly said that they make the game without considering the timeline and then just shove it where it makes the most sense. The whole thing makes way more sense if you consider all the games as pairs then a completely different timeline/dimension or whatever else you want to call it anyway which is what Miyamoto said they did in house before they caved and made the timelines. Good video though.

Eldin Mountain from Skyward Sword is very clearly Death Mountain though. In BotW and TotK the area Death Mountain resides in is literally called the Eldin region. Lanaryu Desert on the other hand most likely turned into Zora's domain in the other games, which is why it wouldn't be included in Gerudo desert section.

On a related noted, Spectacle Rock was always a geographic feature of Death Mountain, except for Breath and Tears, where they decided to place it next to the desert, in the opposite corner of the world.

There’s an obvious missing link here that, while it doesn’t change the outcome, is important to remember: TP Sacred Grove. Why do I throw it up? Let’s see… Winding, confusing paths meant to ward out anyone who doesn’t know where to go… Saria’s Song playing in the background… the Skull Kid directly playing Saria’s Song on his Trumpet with him finding TP Link fun… Located in Faron Woods…
In literally every regard, this is the Lost Woods. Not subtly, no very directly. While it now leads to the ruined Temple of Time instead of some talking tree, the comparison is beyond uncanny. Likewise with TP being a sequel to OoT to the degree that the Hero’s Shade is directly OoT Link, yeah no such a direct comparison with even the Skull Kid lining up cannot be ignored. It counts as an extra Lost Woods point.

That's the first question I had about this video too. Does the map that came with Zelda 1 call a specific area "Hyrule Field"? I don't remember there being a Hyrule Field until it was introduced in Ocarina of Time. Sure, you can go back and say "the place where you start the game is in Hyrule Field," but that's not the same as places like the Lost Woods, Death Mountain, and Spectacle Rock that were given those names in the material included with the original game.

Interesting bit about Hebra Mountain and Death Mountain. A Link to the Past's Light World doesn't have Death Mountain. That explains why Echoes of Wisdom has Eldin Volcano, Hebra Mountain, and Mount Lanayru, but none of them are called "Death Mountain"
Interesting coincidence, Death Mountain is only in games which feature Ganon as the main villain.

  • @starbonnie552
    @starbonnie552 วันที่ผ่านมา

I feel like Eldin Volcano could count as Death Mountain because BOTW refers to the region the mountain is located in is called Eldin so presumably Eldin is just Death Mountain just that it's named after the region and not the fact people die there or something. Honestly I think it's only called that cause you don't have anything else to call it as opposed to Gerudo desert which were named after it's inhabitants who haven't been there yet. It's a name change as opposed to something actively changing about the location. Though in that case Lake Floria would count as Lake Hylia as it was probably renamed after Hyrule's founding cause it's kinda weird it wasn't already or something :P
Also while it doesn't matter the Forbidden Forest and the sanctuary is supposed to be the kokiri Forest/loost woods. Debatable for Dragonroost being Death Mountain cause apparently that's Zora's Domain for some reason or something

For Lost Woods Echoes of Wisdom obviously counts because its the same location as the other LTTP adjacent games.
However, if you're only counting the locations that exist in Hyrule, then Spirit Tracks is debatable. Its clearly not the same Hyrule, its literally NEW Hyrule. However, you could argue its still the "Lost Woods" in Hyrule.
If you're just going by locations called the Lost Woods, then I say count all of them. The Eternal Forest is obviously the same location as LTTP/LBW Lost Woods, so it just had a name change at some point but its still the Lost Woods.
Wind Waker is a very questionable one. Forest Haven is clearly intended to be the future version of the Lost Woods, but it could be argued the ACTUAL Lost Woods were buried under the sea and are gone now. So this one I think could be left out. In addition, the Sacred Grove from Twilight Princess should also count as the Lost Woods.
Add in Spirit Tracks and the Oracle games for having the same name, and Majora's Mask for having the same location.

I'm questioning why we count things like the Lost woods in ocarina of Time and Majora's mask as two separate appearances even though it's the exact same locale. But we count Hyrule Castle separately for each game even though they're often entirely different buildings and areas. Not that I disagree, just adding to the conversation.

  • @TigerwithAdrill
    @TigerwithAdrill 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

I feel like Eldin volcano should have been counted since, historically, the surface from Skyward Sword is just the first version of Hyrule. With that evidence, it is also true that Eldin Volcano goes on to be Death Mountain, regardless of the name change. And I feel like there's an issue here too, cause you counted stuff from Spirit Tracks, despite it taking place hundreds of years after Wind Waker, and on an entirely New Hyrule, not being the same one from Wind Waker. Overall, you can't really do this whole thing based off of just stuff like shared names.

I definitely think Lost Woods should count in Majora, it's certainly in the intro, and I agree to count the Oracles version. I disagree on the Eternal Forest in Echoes, but we might as well count the Sacred Grove in Twilight since it's practically one specific area of the greater Lost Woods just as the Sacred Forest Meadow from Ocarina is in the Lost Woods. debatably we might even count the Royal Valley in Minish for having the same function as the Lost Woods but that's a stretch.

I think debating if each area is the exact same place is probably the wrong way to go about it. As given the similarities between the map of Echoes of Wisdom and ALttP for example one coukd easily make the connection that Mount Hebra in EoW is the same Mountain from ALttP/ALBW, same with the Lost Woods of ALttP and the Eternal Forest. I think it's probably easier to just count the names and whether or not theyre in Hyrule or not.

what's your source/methodology for named places in the first zelda game? I remember Death Mountain and the Lost Woods appearing by name in guides and instruction booklets but I don't remember the name "Hyrule Field" appearing by that name, and unlike Lake Hylia I'm having a hard time picking out what feature on the map from the first game fits as an obvious Hyrule Field. The map for that game is mostly mountains, forest, and shoreline. Is it the starting area that you're talking about? That's the least woodsy/hilly part of the map but it doesn't really feel like an obvious Hyrule Field precursor.

I was surprised to find I was wrong.
In my case I think of certain areas based off Ocaranna names; without actually knowing what they were called.
As in all mts were death mt. All woods the lost woods... ie why I thought the castle showed up less.
I will however question your judgement in case of the castle showing up in Link 2.
What was Zeldas sleeping location; and each castle in that game named? Never really knew their actual names not the location name tacked on to them.
    For instance Desert Palace/Swamp Palace/Island Paace/Labrynth Palace/Ocean Palace/Southern Palace/Final Palace/Zeldas Bed Chambers
Because currently that is how I name them by location. But like the city names I figured the Palaces and rest place had proper names in the lore... hence my question.
