I have a 07 DRZ400sm. Well I found a small leak of oil coming from that 3 bolt cover near the top of the sator cover. I suspect it's that O ring you mentioned. New O ring coming next week. Thanks for the video man
I am trying to install the same stator in my DRZ. The problem is that the wire harnesses are too long, making it impossible to jam the excess wiring below the coil pack. I'm probably going to return it.
Nice vid. However, the removal of the stator and harness, etc. should have been a little less hurried with pauses in between. Had to re-watch a bunch of times. Otherwise good job.
Sometimes, you just figure some stuff out on your own. I've learned ways to approach things I'm not familiar with, and it's a skill that is almost more beneficial then the TH-cam videos.
Any advice on how to get the cover back on? It's such a tight fit at the top right and I worked with it for hours and couldn't get it on, and in the process I slightly warped the gasket. Nice video it's helped a lot
Turns out I had one little half inch ring in the wrong spot, as soon as I out the ring in the correct spot it went right on. Thanks again for the video

Hi. Just watching your videos on the Stator replacement. My 2007 died last evening. Wondering if the brand you chose is holding up well. I read such mixed reviews on the different stators. I’m in Nova Scotia so I’d like to find a brand I can get without waiting 3 weeks from the USA. I typically order from Fortnine but they’ve been slow lately. Thanks Greg Martin
Hi their just wondered what symptoms you had on your bike? Ours just cut out completely while out riding, but before that had been missing badly on acceleration. Now won't start, starter just spins, won't fire
Hi Keith, it wouldn't keep power and would die out, wot was miss-fire as too much demand on the batter that was weak, wait for the battery to re-gain charge and it would fire up but not for long and no load power, she eventually died and had to get towed. I would see if your getting spark first, fuel second and assess. Spark plugs are cheap, does she fire? if so put the meter on the battery and see level of charge going to battery. should be 13-14volts. The rest is money so check rectifier and stator with meter. She should run off the battery for a few. Just my TC.
@@motomaddness4837 that's been my experience as well. I assume I'll get ~5 starts on a day out before I have to start bump starting it. I keep it on the battery tender when I get back so it's a semi-working routine but definitely would rather have a working stator and a charging battery.
I am unsure why it wouldn't rev, may have an other issue, have you checked the charging volts at the battery under idle? and if you pull the choke out do you get higher rpms ?
@@motomaddness4837 No real change with choke. Well it very soon don't need it. I changed carb too. Maby its this Pair valve. The engine came from my other bike which didn't have 1. ECU swap didn't make it rev up either. Its a new plug too((

Maybe i missed it buy y the stator? New lights need more waaaaatz? Er jus a shhhhhoot old part? Never heard of th mnfr. Fixin to swap in a Ricks 240w stator for my BajaDesign lights. Took out th older Ricks bit because my HIDs were über voltage sensitive. Over 14v theyd cut out. Bad juju sailin full bore into a corner and ur lights go dark. Boo! Crashing sux! Oh, ima hv to disagree bouth th gasket. Im sure its 100% better w a steel core but once you crush/compress the material id say is sus. Jus spring for an oem bit. And hopefully youll never need to use it over n over. 😬😬 jus sayin Maybe buck up for a Rcks stator too. 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for the good video. Just bought an 06 with a bad stator.
I can’t imagine wearing a $5000 wrist watch while working on my motorcycle. Lol!
Great tutorial! Enjoyed that!
Nice to see the teardown, lots of vagueness though.

Im in the same boat. I didn’t have the stator wires totally under the stator. Now i have to repair the wires. I just might be able to shorten them
7:54 where do I buy that part and what’s it called? I have a drz250 are they much different to the 400s?
Looks like you also had the free power mod done already? Or is that red power wire something else
Great job very informative thanks

did you lose the bushing that goes inside the starter gear cluster?
Use permatex hi tack blue on the metal gasket to reuse or hi tack blue paper gasket torque to spec.
What is the small cable that goes to the little black box that screws into the case?

it should fit right in, yes it'll be tight but line up the dowels and it should slip right in.
Great video
Were there any signs of the stator failing?
Did you drain and refil oil before and after process?
I can't remember but I don't think I did
was there a torque speck for some of the side case bolts?
i have an ltz400 and just replaced my statoe cover. did exactly as the video and now crank but wont start. was working before. any suggestions? thanks
Me same problem.

Did you just install the gasket dry? I read it needs the black liquid gasket. Thanks for the video. It helped a lot.
I think I used black paint on steal gaskets, paint gasket let dry and install. Cheers, and no it still doesn't leak.
@@motomaddness4837 thanks a bunch. I'm going to give it a shot.
man mine 1/4 dead , engine stall halfway , lucky it started and make mine way home
thats good, mine didn't make it home under its own power
You said put a little paint on the original steel gasket. You think basic paint spray would be ok? Thanks!
yes
You skipped the whole part where you took it off
Ikr
Didn't show removing the center bolt. Why???
19:20 What is this "filament" you keep mentioning?
filament is the the fit of the product
@@motomaddness4837 that would be “fitment” not “filament”
How much did you pay for a stator, and how long did the entire process take?
under 200.00 and can be done in an afternoon
Should turn the music up louder, I could almost hear you.
which high lift jack stand is that?
What models or types of Loctite do I need for my 2015 Drz?
red loctite

the one I got is hold well, no issues
Mate DRZ will last for ever.
You can flog them one weekend put it in the shed and get it out the next and it will start up no problem
Is there supposed to be oil by the stator
yes

SHows on the box that it's from Electrosport.

Will the bike still spark with a bad stator
yes if the battery is good
yes but from your battery, and your battery will not charge
