- in part 1 of this challenge, i am climbing from c- to s+ on a brand new save file with only the undercover brella, also known as the worst weapon in splatoon 3. this was extremely difficult but also very fun, and i hope you guys enjoy. next part should be up sometime next week.

This really proves that it's less about the weapons and more about the player and their skill with positioning, coordination, etc...

Yeah, especially in soloqueue, teamcomps don't matter that much. Only in competitive is where they rlly matter
those japanese players aren't smurfs, they are just better than other people for some bizarre reason
Japanese players just have a higher average skill level in each rank

It's because there are a lot more Japanese players than other demographics who will have better connection to each other because they're a lot closer, so mechanical skill can really go up due to low latency.
@@zacharywoloszynski4258 player since 2017 splatoon 2 till now splatoon 3 I can say that you are wrong. Japan players are toxic. They play aggressive at first, but when they know they lost in skill, they play very defensive. The skilled japan player have above average skill then other player but the bad one, worse then most other non japan player. So you are almost pure gambling if play in japan region. If you can't be a superior player that can carry them, then you will mostly defeat in each round.
More over. Jap player each round mostly play individually. They don't much care with other team member nor the mode itself. You will find mostly don"t want to carry RM or stand on TC. Mostly they let you non jap do that. They don"t want look bad on the score. Killed lots.
So for player from other region then jap that want to change server. Remember my advice above. Be prepare for the best and worse players in jap region.
@@bng3450 lol saying this without ever stating your X power is lame. For one, literally none of your argument support your “Japanese players toxic” claim. And secondly, weapons got roles. Maybe you’re the one that’s supposed to do the objective and that’s why all decent teammates expect you to do your job while they can do their job.
As a B+ Undercover main, be prepared for a lot of disconnects from your team.
Edit: And sometimes from the other team when they realize they're losing to a brella lol
Its not because your a brella its, the same amount as any other weapon. I have so so so many dc's
As a fellow undercover main in B rank, I can support this fully
Tip as an undercover brella main is to utilize your inkmines for bonus damage as they deal 45 dmg plus 40 it usually will guarantee you a free kill when used properly
Seeing clams get passed in C rank is cursed, people dont even do that in A rank lmao.
people do that in A rank (i’m a year late)
As someone who mains Undercover in S3 and plays it on X-Rank purely out of spite, it is interesting to see the lower ranks and someone unfamiliar with the weapon. I'm more fascinated with the fact that you're running a more aggressive set with both Ninja perks. Undercover feels very muddy in its usage. It is a frontline, but how does it function exactly? Definitely smart move to omit Special Charge Up, since... you know. (Honestly a miracle that Dark Tetras is a high-tier weapon.)
Since higher ranks will be more merciless, Quick Respawn as a main slot is a good idea, since it can EASILY get bum-rushed. Run Speed Up also helps for more effective positioning, since the perk applies to strafing speed. The problem is that it need a LOT to make it work. Comeback is even recommended for it, due to its frail nature, often in tandem with Quick Respawn. It doesn't help that the devs seem to have both a strong bias for the Shooter class and against the Brellas, for no reason. So unless they actually make them viable in some way, they're pretty much relegated to obscurity. Ironic, because the current meta is all about HP Specials, especially Crab Tank.
On the bright side, it is funny to see genuine low-rank players fumble against the main weapon and special.
I played extremely aggressive throughout the entire series purely because I am a Skirmisher/Slayer and I would do better playing it that way instead of a support since I have some idea what I'm doing. I ran this ninja stealth jump build all the way until s rank, I then switched to coincidently exactly what you reccomend, comeback and qr. I'm not sure my mechanical skill improved too much with it, but honestly I was surprised how fun the weapon was to play
@@fragzz Ah, I see. I tend to be more Jack-of-All, though I lean more in Support. Support-Skirmish is the closest I could describe Undercover, since it really can't kill: three shots minimum, four to five on average, due to how messy the shots are. Glad to hear that you had fun using it.
I recall during the last Splatfest I queued with a friend and played mostly undercover, and it was quite funny seeing how much players struggled to deal with the fact I had so much durability, it won me many 2v1's (and a few 3v1's) I was sure I should have lost based on my Splatoon 2 Experiences with the weapon. So yeah, I definitely think players at the lower end of the skill curve just can't figure out what to do against the Undercover.
I hope i never get matched with you in my x battles. Not in my team, that is.
I was planning of making a full run speed build with undercover for the memes but knowing it's viable scares me a little
Something I like to do with any weapon that uses Ink mines, Undercover especially, is to place them on an enemy super jump spot to ensure their fate is sealed/ make the kill time faster so I can move on.
I think the teams being overly good is more the result of people who took a break after last season starting to play again, it makes c-rank a little bit more then some newbies

i was a undercover brella main in splatoon 2 for a while, i plan to get it to 5 stars in 3. you offend me greatly. really good video i enjoyed your insight on the actual gameplay
also personally i always played as a support with this weapon because of the ink mines and low dps. if you can make good ink mine placement it increases the dps a TON, not good enough to play aggressive, but still REALLY good for support in general. the ink mines are like the most important part of this weapon to be honest. i feel like it needs a different special though, reefslider doesnt really synergize well. (that could be a skill issue on me tho)
i played it like a slayer in this series because i main slayer/skirmisher weapons, and as a result i forgot to use mines almost the entire series LMAO. im well aware they CAN work if used well, i just have no experience with support weapons, and as youll see in the upcoming parts, this didnt turn out to be a huge issue.
@@fragzz oh thats fair. im the complete opposite lol, i main primarily support weapons. it is interesting to see this from the perspective of an aggressive player though!

As someone who gets quite busy and can't always play every season, I definitely think there can be quite a few skilled players in C rank that just can't play often haha
I'm pretty sure series matches you with literally anyone from any rank. open usually matches with similar skill level/rank but I'm not too sure abt it
it matches you with what the game determines as similar skill. since I played turf war with a friend and was winning a lot at the very start the matchmaking algorithm puts me pretty high right off the bat.

Those guys in c werent smurfs, you say that a lot of people are smurfs that aren't lol. A lot of people play a lot of turf before rank, and with more ppl watch splatoon videos, that also gives them an adavantage. Splashomatic is also a weapon with medium range perfect accuracy high fire rate and medium damage. Part of the reason japanese players are better sometimes cuz like wifi, but overall nothing different about them unless you are in ultra high x rank

Nintendo's match making has to be the worst in Splatoon 3, I remember playing on my cousins account to level him up and I ended up getting into a lobby with prochara, we lost

yeah ngl i remember this battle and it did not feel like I was up against other C players. I don't usually play ranked since, as my tag indicates, I'm more of a Salmon Run kind of guy, but that was a pretty thorough thrashing I don't typically see. gg though, interested to see the rest of the challenge

8:50 Even though it does look like the shield blocked the power clam, it appears to be that the enemy team threw the ball at the side of the uninkable blocks. The ink explosion where the ball made contact was a ways away from your shield, and due to the reflective trajectory of the ball when it hits a wall, it looks to be like it hit the wall and not the shield. Just thought I'd point that out. Aside from that, great job on the video!

welcome to my world! i did the same challenge but with explosher! i also forced myself to use joycon with extreme drift, during the challenge, so i was using weapon that i never had used before WITH extreme joycon drift!
I also believe that the ranking system does match up the players around each other's skill levels compared to what your actual rank may be. The Wii U matching system would rank you base on your rank regardless of skill level.
Did you forget about the Big Swig Roller? The Undercover Brella isn't the worst weapon in the game.
undercover is worse than big swig. big swigs one strength is being able to stall zone a lot, undercover doesn't really have anything it's good at

If you’re using undercover, if you can, keep your shield down so it Regens hp. Also matchmaking is awful so you can see s+ players in c rank and vice-versa
I've been playing since S2 and almost never played ranked, but I do consider myself decent at turf war. Highest I got once was A-, now I'm trying ranked again (with the Eliter) and I can't get out of C rank. I think the level is high, I feel like I either get carried or get run over.
I find it funny how sometimes people in S+ just make a rush with no numbers advantage (sometimes on their own) for me :(

I'm guility of the C Rank thing. I sometimes focus too much on it and get myself killed and then my team gets destroyed in the process
Can confirm this is C rank, not smurfs. I was in A rank for every splat 2 mode and got put in C-. Also, I don’t play a lot.

If matchmaking is done by power and not rank then I get matched against people with higher power than me and get teammates with power lower than me. A lot lower.
I believe it does a sort of mixing of the two in Series, and just uses power in open.
And yes I feel this multiple times a play session in anarchy, at least an x-rank you know that if you lose a bunch of games that you're supposed to lose, you only get knocked a little bit, in anarchy it's all or nothing because the scoring is 0% reliant on glicko

I have the best weapons in the game at my disposal and am hardstuck A-, i'm so fucking bad! I rlly gotta get back into grinding ranked but turf is just so much more fun, especially now that I'm experimenting with two new weapons I never played before and am rlly loving, namely ballpoint and especially explosher, I have not had this much fun with the game since the last time I played E Liter! But ranked is always so sweaty, especially once I make it out of B...

S+ is like 1500 XP which translates to B rank in Splatoon 2. Splatoon 3 players put so much attention to S+ and think that they achieve or prove something by reaching S+. But no, unlike ranks in Splatoon 2, ranks in Splatoon 3 is merely a ticket for X battles. Nothing more than that.
Now I’ve definitely seen undercover mains in high X power battles both in Splatoon 2 and 3. It’s doable. I agree with you. It’s just that the method your using to prove it doesn’t actually prove it. Therefore, if you could extend this series to X battle (at the very least to 2200 XP I think), that would be very nice, and actually meaningful.
believe me im well aware s+ is much less of an achievement here than s2. i think its still a decent skill benchmark tho. every weapon in this game is viable and im not necessarily trying to prove its worth, it doesnt really need that, im just doing this to see if i could have done this and how difficult it was.

One question. Why didn’t you play a bit of splatoon 2 to transfer the data and unlock anarchy quickly and have golden sheldon licenses to also get undercover quickly?
it takes pretty much the same time to hit level 10 in splatoon 2 and 3 and I didn't need any of the other perks that came from a save data transfer

yeah I know, unfortunately I didn't have an alt account with a splatoon 2 level 10, and it doesn't take longer to level up in 3 than 2, so there wasn't much of a point.
My cousin was level 8 and he got ranked battles in 3 lol

This was in my raccomandations, i bought splatoon 3 a week ago and im currently lvl11 and it's my first splatoon game.
Is it me or i don't notice players when im fighting? Like even in the video i don't see what is he shooting untill he kills the dude, he's litteraly shooting randomly then i hear the splat sound...
The aim too, i don't know how he is so smooth when moving aim...
I come from pc so i hope that it's just that im not adapted to the motion yet, but regarding the fact that i dont see people bothers me a lot since everyone seem to not miss where i go when i try to escape as squid while they shoot me...
Currently using the long medium-long range splatter gun with the ability that marks people when thrown and it's better, but it's really bad that i have to play like that, when i don't see people they jump on me with a close range gun and destroy me... kinda sad
Hope it gets better soon, gonna watch the entire series up to S rank and subscribed, really entertaining to watch and you are funny too!
motion takes quite a while to get used to but trust me it is so worth it. i come from pc games as well, and its way better than sticks will ever be. eventually its just as good as keyboard and mouse. it just takes time. also this isnt an elegant solution but if you are struggling to notice players you can try turning the gamma up on your monitor. or, use color lock, its a setting built into the game. glad youre enjoying!
@@fragzz Yeah im starting to get the hang of it, both with aim and the rest. What i mean by saying that i don't see people is when i shoot and they go into squid mode, is not about color or gamma if they turn the same color as the ground ahahah.
It might just be me not being used to it tho, better think of it as a marathon instead of a rush!

When it’s literally been a minute into the game, in anarchy you gotta move the objective to win, it’s not turf war, nor a contest of who will have the most kills, you’re not a professional for never touching the objective ( 6:28 oh don’t even make me start on this fucking joke)
holy shit dude, chill. i think 99% of people in S+ going into c rank would go in with overconfidence, and just because im not a "pro" doesnt mean i cant educate people who have less knowledge than me. obviously i am going to point out errors when i see them, im trying to teach people, and objective tunnel is not something hard to spot early in the game. yes you have to move the objective, and yes it isnt nessecarily who gets the most kills wins. its about positioning and using your advantages to go further. trying to push the objective without an advantage will result in failure, or not have enough of an impact to flip the game state. keep in mind when you are playing at lower level, these concepts do not apply as much since people dont entirely know what they are doing. at higher level this is basically necessity.
