It kinda feels like sloppy writing to have a water bender using fire, the complete opposite, as her main bending style, just to develop an aggressive hero.
I just think all bending was nerfed in this series because of timing. Technology took over and bending became more obsolete and it even became detested by non benders. In this era it became mostly popular for sport and became less spiritual which justifies its lack of strength and power. It’s kind of like how today we don’t really need human strength anymore, it’s more for aesthetics and sport. I believe the writers intended that.

She brought the Airbenders back and even gave Tenzin advice on how to teach them when she initially didn't value airbending and earlier said she didn't need it because she had the other 3 elements. She got over her PTSD from Zaheer and overcame what she was afraid of and bended poison out of her body. At the end of season 4 she was more level headed on the way she does things. Like for example, she was willing to torture a man in season 2 for information about her dad and in Season 4 she convinced a guy to help her instead of threatening him. Aang was only serious when it came to Ozai but throughtout ATLA he was the same goofy kid but with powers.

I am saying that none of the things that happened to Korra significantly altered her world view or developed her character in meaningful ways. In all honesty, this is likely due to the haphazard production schedule of the series. To address your points though: You shouldn't caricature Book One Korra to create the impression of a development that did not occur. Korra's advice to Tenzin was not good advice and that episode is more about one of Tenzin's personality tics than anything else. The entire plot of Book One is to teach Korra that she does need to learn how to bend air, so your point rings hollow; Amon literally takes away the other three elements. Indeed, the entire first season rang hollow because the plot resolved itself magically by its end, sending Korra back to square one and setting us up for Book Two, which is the worst season of any Avatar ever. But as you can see as late as her fight with Kuvira that she relies much more on brute force and the three elements that she is most comfortable with. Book One Korra would have saved the Air Benders too. The PTSD bit is actually the most interesting part. It's like an attempt to get back on track with the development at the end of Book One. Also, again, I cannot emphasize enough that using Book Two Korra to argue for character development is dumb. Books One, Three, and Four Korra are essentially the same character, but Book Two Korra is much worse.

Tbh I don't really like firebending. It may be the most destructive element, but it also lacks the ability to control it. It can sometimes get out of hand where it effects those around you. Very useful but destructive at the same time

She really didn’t have much of a reason to learn it and we don’t know of any Avatar who could bend lightning. Aang could redirect it, but he only learned because he had to fight Ozai. Korra rarely fought firebenders on the show, so she never needed to learn lightning redirection
