@@wiseheart7550 He favored tenzin heavily. Bumi and kya were mad to their father. Probably they grew up like 3 different people who are somehow siblings. My guess is Bumi grew up with his uncle sokka Kya grew up with her mom And tenzin was with aang
@@omerdirekci8857 No he didn't. He favored Tenzin a little, but they all grew up with Aang as their father and Katara as their mother. No-one grew up with separate people
Toph's parents were overbearing and didn't allow her any freedom. Toph herself was arguably negligent as a mother. Interesting how we see two opposite ends of the spectrum in one family.
@@boga-tier6609 i feel thats not really fair though aang was the avatar and an air nomad so he didn't have the time to be a proper father nor the family background to do it correctly anyway. Also Tenzin was the only other Airbender so it made sense he would focus a little more on him seeing as the sake of the air nomads culture depended on him.
@@TheKnifekillerofmw2 I understand that and I understand but there's one, "tiny" problem. HE NEGLECTED HIS OTHER TWO KIDS. No matter how you look at it, no ifs, ands, or buts, Aang could've involved bumi into being an air nomad. Hell even Aangs daughter wanted to be part of Air Nomad culture, but no. He neglected his kids compeletly. No parent should ever do that, period.
@@boga-tier6609 well, at least they didn't ended up like Zuko and Azula, speaking of Zuko, Zuko's the only one in the gaang that's actually a good parent
I will forever hate suyin, she gets away with everything just becuz she's a beifong. I hate how they make lin looks like the bad guy when she's the victim of her bit*h sister, toph shouldve throw her in jail so she can learn something instead let her get away with it
Well...Aang was a neglectful father and Toph was a Cook County-Class corrupt chief. How sad is it that ZUKO seems to be the most functional adult of the Gaang?
LOL!! True! Rather ironical, when you think of the kind of family Zuko had! But on a serious note, I like the realism of the story, in that just because Aang and Toph did a lot to save the world and help rebuild the four nations, it did not necessarily mean that they were excellent parents in their own right. They shouldered very great burdens and their children paid a price for that, as Tenzin, Bumi and Kya observed about their father.
Zuko had a tyrannical and abusive father, he saw the worst and chose to be different. Aang like most Air Nomads didn't have traditional parents or a family structure to learn from. Tophs parents were over protective, aside from this incident we know that Toph was an alright parent. She may have been too laid back but her daughters were very focused and hard working people.
Aang had to deal with genecide at the age of 10. Being burned in the face by your father has nothing on that. Tbh I'm surprised that Aang's kids were so normal. p.s. it would be so dark but so funny if Zuko's daughter had a burn on one side of her face. I'm an awful human being.
Pelcogo A teenager may be impulsive, but you can still have a sense of responsibility. I was a teenager and I never broke the law or hung out with criminals.
Wandering Alpaca She even said she “owed them a favor.” Wrong. You don’t owe criminals a thing except a fair trial. Suyin even told Lin that it was her fault when she was being interrogated by their mom, which is clearly not true.
Lin has one of the most tragic backstories in Legend of Korra. All the people she loved- Tenzin, Su, Toph- left her. Even Aang and Sokka, who I imagine she loved like fathers, died. All she had left (before she made up with her family and ex) was her job, so it's easy to see why she was so dedicated that she became chief, arrested the Avatar, and got invited to multiple world-leader meetings.
Wow, that was very beautiful. It makes so much sense why Lin is so moody and closed off. But when you get those moments of seeing her smile or risking her life to save others...you know that she is the most selfless person in the series.
That reminds me of Asami Sato's lineup of near-tragedies: Every man in her life (Mako, Varrick, and even her own father Hiroshi) ended up betraying her at some point. She struck out in her love life, her family is pretty much gone, and she almost lost the business after spending so long to salvage its reputation. Good thing is, those men have all reformed in the end, but it's no wonder that Asami ultimately finds comfort with Korra on their vacation.
Arliss Caruso It's still really funny how the Tokka theory hasn't been totally debunked yet (which is just fine to me, since I liked that pairing even after Suki came back into Sokka's life). Mike and Bryan have recently been showing family trees for Tenzin's and Mako's families, but they still won't tell us who Suyin's dad is! If they say her father's name is something like "Johto," I don't know what I'll do...
Seriously how is the situation Lin's fault too? This is totally all Suyin's mess, being a getaway driver for criminals. No wonder Lin is so angry at Toph and Su.
Mister Hamlicrazy123 She has every right to be angry. She was being a good sister and trying to keep her sister out of trouble but su did that too herself.
I get that Toph didn't necessarily have all her focus on her kids with her running a whole police force, but she should've just sent her youngest away sooner because that kid was out of control.
@@0malware118 You're upset that a middle-aged woman is different than her pre-teen self? It's a sudden transition from the viewer perspective, but decades had passed in their world. I myself feel they made mistakes, but you're just nitpicking here.
@@justinblakeney3466 meh, Toph was controlled her entire childhood, her dream was to be free. Even though she was 12 when she escaped I highly doubt she would ever want to be a cop. Also... a corrupted cop? How disappointing is that?
Its not just that Suyins shady life literally scarred Lin, but the fact that she watched Toph tear up an arrest report just to not deal with it. Lin literally just watched Toph betray her position as a mother and a police chief.
@@miloradstanojevic3784 She didnt have a point she had an excuse. She tore up an official paper to save face essentially. Lin absolutely had a right to hate her for that. Even if for one moment your own mother the police chief betrays everything you stand for. Giving special treatment to your sister despite her openly committing crimes and scarring you.
I think that Toph should have put Su in jail for at least a week to teach her a lesson and to show that nobody is immune to being punished for their crimes.
Thank you! Suyin literally scarred Lin’s face and she shows no ounce of remorse for it-I get that the show is prolly trying to teach us that sometimes we have to let something’s go, but you can’t just get over something like that not when it resulted in your child getting a face scar
I feel bad for Lin. She followed the rules, became a cop, tried her hardest to make Toph proud, but in the end she lost out in having a better life. Instead Su got everything, she got freedom, a family, she went on many adventures and created her own city. Maybe it isn't always right to follow the rules? I dunno but it's always the bad things that happen to good people. The good always have it the hardest.
+TheMegaUzumaki Yet Lin sacrificed her bending for Tenzin, and his family. Lin is not bad, and she didn't deserve the life she got. It's all Su's and Toph's fault.
***** Su and Toph moved on because their lives wasn't affected. Toph sending Su away, and destroying the report saved her career. And Su moving away gave her more freedom to do what she wanted. Lin's life however was affected. Su marked her face, disobeyed her, and hated Lin. While Toph chose protecting Su over Lin's feelings. Lin also admired Toph and worked hard to please her by becoming a metal bender cop, but Toph couldn't care less. Lin gave up having a family with Tenzin, just so she could become chief of police for Toph, and she didn't even care. I don't blame Toph because her upbringing affected her parenting style, but she didn't care for Lin and Su like a parent would. Lin did nothing wrong.
***** I know Lin harassed Pema you don't need to repeat yourself. Lin harassing Pema doesn't have anything to do with how Su and Toph decision and actions ruined her life. Compared to everything else Lin's did on the show, she's pretty selfless. Lin's saved Korra's live repetitively, she saved Tenzin and Pema's family, she sacrificed herself to protect Su from Pi li, and rescued Su and her family when Kuvria imprisoned them.
***** Say what you want, but it is Toph and Su's fault to why things ending up this way for Lin. I never said what Lin did to Tenzin and Pema is justified, but it doesn't have any affect on Lin's life being messed up. That's all on Toph and Su.
***** You say Lin's choices messed up her life? Was it Lin who got arrested by stealing with a group of triads? Was it Lin who destroyed Su's arrest report? Was it Lin who acted irresponsible, skipped school, or acted up? Besides what she did to Tenzin and Pema, she hasn't made any bad choices. Toph didn't take responsibility for Su's actions when she was arrested, she just destroyed the report and let her off scot free. Lin only did her job in that situation. Please stop using Tenzin and Pema in the situation of Su getting arrested. That moment is when Lin's life changed, because it happened before her relationship with Tenzin was over. Pema and Tenzin didn't happen then when this flashback took place.
Plus she never learned better parenting, and that seriously distanced her from her daughters. Her parents weren’t the best and she didn’t change much from her attitude from the first series. That lead to rough parenting and neglect, and little appreciation for what Lin and Suyin did, and that added to the tensions.
Sarah Costello and of course like in all cartoons the father is either absent or dead Thus preventing us from seeing what he was like and how he interacted with toph
I mean she also had too much responsibility and how her parents treated her plus the lifestyle she live but of course when she doesn’t have the position anymore she went back to good old toph thank God even aang would agree it would be the best tbh
Since Toph always had a strictly confined childhood, she wanted to do the opposite for her own children. It's interesting to see how each of her daughters decided to go about having so much freedom on their hands. Lin wanted to make her mother proud and joined the police just like her mother because she thought following in her mother's footsteps would make Toph happy, but this actually made Toph dissapointed because Lin did what would make her mother happy and not herself. Suyin took advantage of having so much freedom and dabbled in illegal affairs as a result. She kind of had young Toph's attitude of "living in the moment" and "doing whatever she wanted". I just find it so intriguing how their personalities reflect on Toph's decision to give them what she didn't have as a child for their own sake, but ultimately it didn't turn out the way she had hoped.
Toph in her own way cared about her family but that need to not be as over protective as her parents lead to about as many problems as there were when toph constantly went against her family.
@@GameTavern2224 As messed up as it is, I have to agree that Toph's life after Last Airbender was a realistic one. A lot of families are messed up in the same way in real life.
ok so let me get this straight Su you yelled at Lin when she was trying to help you then knowing that your own mother and sister are cops helped criminals escape but when your Sister confronted you about this you say it's not a big deal and then instead of listening to your sister who probably would had let you go with a warning ignored her then scarred her without apologizing and then you have the audacity to say it's Lin's fault when you were the one who instigated everything...Really...what the hell
***** im not saying Lin didnt do anything wrong but what im saying is Su blamed her own sister who was just trying to help her in the beginning, scarred her for life, and didn't apologize for doing so. she doesnt or didn't take responsibility for what she did also im pretty sure Lin got in trouble for trying to arrest her ex's wife and for destroying their house besides wasn't aang still around? im sure a cool and calm guy like that would be ticked at someone who destroyed his home so yeah Lin had to have gotten punished for that. I like older Su it's young Su that i don't like
Makes sense on a general common sense level and to a degree a psychological one as well. Kids tend to try not to make the same mistakes their parents made, so it is easy to end up being the direct opposite of their parents. Toph had suffocating, restrictive, and strict parents who tried to control who she is and make her fit *their mold. So with her kids, she decided to avoid that entirely by giving them the freedom she wanted as a child to be whoever they are without any guidance or any rules. With Zuko, he always had a kindhearted personality that his mom and Uncle Iroh nurtured and protected in him, while his father, the source of a lot of his issues, was an narcissistic abuser who had no mercy and never chose to exercise empathy or compassion towards others. In turn, Zuko managed to keep and impart the values his good parental figures gave him to his children, and he learned not to do the things his dad did that made him feel terrible as a child. Without the proper wisdom to temper that "don't be like my own parents" attitude, those that become parents don't keep the parts their parents did right; they just do the opposite. Any parenting style needs balance. Parents need to walk a fine line with freedom and rules, structure and independence, and the ability to make mistakes on your own and learn from them tempered with the expectation of keeping behavior in line with certain ideals, hopefully good ones like integrity, humility, respect, etc. (This isn't easy to do of course.) It is easier to do these things when you have a healthy and good family, like Katara and Sokka did, or if you have some good parental figures in your life, like Zuko did. I haven't watched enough of LOK to speak about Aang's parenting, but based on what little I know, it makes sense to me personally that he might have favored Tenzin too much. This is not to say that he is a terrible parent, but he wasn't a perfect or great one. A nomadic lifestyle to what I know probably takes on a more communal parenting approach, where a child can be supported by and learn from one adult what another might not be as great in. There could have been some subconscious assumption on his part that any of his shortcomings would be rounded out by his found family, though his friends now adults also have their own share of responsibilities and troubles to deal with. Also he had a lot of responsibility from the entire world to bear, and it makes sense that that didn't help his parenting much.
@@Idkidc2173And when Iroh wasn’t available, he just asked himself what Ozai would do, and did the opposite. (It was easier than decoding his own impression of Iroh.)
It actually make sense. Ozai basically kidnap Zuko's mother and force her to have Azula + he is super terrible to him. This make Zuko not likely to look him up as an example of a good father. Then there is uncle Iroh for him when he is in exile. I would say he has a perfect set up to become a good parent since he has both good and bad example around him for cross examination. Then Aang not only had a rough chilhood, he doesn't have anyone as Air Nomad left alive for him as an example to be a good dad. Toph is more or less the same. They being not an ideal parent for thier kids are not suprise for its setting. What I have complain is that this idea is not very well elaborate in the show. Which is a shame consider it not bad for a set up.
Lin is by far my favorite character, more than Korra herself. But I just hate how horrible she's been treated. Even when she reunited with Su, she's still being treated as the bad guy for remaining upset with her sister. I would too! She didn't use force against her because she still loves Su, but gets scarred for it. Then Lin's forced to keep it a secret when she saw her mom destroy the report and order Su to leave. Sure she's basically been banished, but she literally injured her sister, intentional or not. And years later she doesn't apologize for giving her sister a tough time or scarring her
Wtf this is a bad take. Su tried to make up with Lin for years multiple times, but refused to ever listen because she stubborn and set in her old ways. I feel like your on Lin's side because you've only seen her side and not any of Su's
lin is a victim, her scar from past by her own sister. but they make lin like a bad guy. Lol can't understand the logic, sue is the one need to forgif to lin, not lin.
Lin is a victim yes, but she doesn't know how to let go of grudges, she refused to believe her sister had changed even when presented with the evidence. On the other hand, Lin never got the apology she was looking for, so I can understand why she cut ties w/ her family for so long.
Su outright said that she AND Toph tried to get together and apologize before years ago, but Lin was the one who continued to refused. Su changed her life. You want her to stop everything and wallow in decades-old sadness just because Lin was too stubborn to listen to the genuine apologies she already tried to make?
It's typically for the writers of this series to potray someone who is in the right in the wrong. This is the first time, and the second was in the Turf Wars comics where Korra called her own father shallow FOR SUGGESTING THAT SOME PEOPLE WON'T LIKE LGBTQ people
It blew my mind when I found out Jessie Flower did the voice of young Suyin. If you listen hard enough you can hear a little bit of young Toph's voice slipping back in.
It's too bad Grey DeLisle wasn't given any meaty roles in this series. She voiced Ming Hua but there wasn't very much she could do with her because she had so little screen time (which was kind of a waste because I like Ming Hua). Did you know she also voiced both Shaak Ti and Asajj Ventress in the 2003 Clone Wars series? They don't sound alike at all.
i just....there's nothing to like about Su. she was a brat as a kid, she scarred her own sister, and she acts like she didn't do anything wrong years later. why am i supposed to care about her again?
TheLastHylianTitan obviously you didn’t pay attention to the show. Su is far better than Lin. At least she grew up and made amends for her past actions. Lin didn’t, she will forever be a bitch
I mean the reason why Lin acted the way she acted when she was younger was to make Toph proud but she didnt give a fuck... Suyin did dumb shit and got away with it and lived an amazing life. She didnt carry the same baggage that Lin did. Toph not seeming to care all that much and he sister scarring her really took an emotional toll on Lin. Nothing she did really had good outcomes so i dont mind her being a bitch tbh....its kinda sad..
Lok is really bittersweet. We spent our childhoods with Aang and the gang and it was a treat to see them grown up but it's a slap in the face to see what kinda parents Toph and Aang became. Like I did not expect Toph and Aang not to have a good relationships with their children. I never expected Toph's daughter to hate her. I never expected Aang to favor Tenzin. I can understand Toph not wanting her daughter to be in jail with the criminals she put away and Aang wanting to preserve the Airbending tradition by teaching Tenzin but still. I guess that's Lok's way of showing that not everyone is prefect, not even the Avatar or the Melon Lord.
THE CHARACTERS WERE NEVER PERFECT! Stop acting like the creators have to portray the characters they created as perfect beings, just because they have fans.
Honestly, Aang favoring Tenzin was to be expected. Aang was always a little resentful that he was the last Airbender. And having two kids who didn't inherit his air bending abilities probably bothered him a lot. So when Tenzin displayed airbending abilities, it's not unexpected to think that Aang focused on Tenzin to carry on the Air Nomad legacy, which ended putting a lot of unnecessary stress on the poor guy, while also leaving Bumi and Kya neglected. As much as it pains me to see it, I did expect as much. And when it was revealed, I wasn't too shocked. I've seen parents in real life favoring the child that looks the most like them, so it's not unrealistic. I'm just happy that the siblings don't hold any deep-rooted resentment towards each other, like Lin and Su.
Sakubi He didn't neglect them. He was probably ecstatic when he found out Katara was having an airbender because he had a change to bring the airbenders back. Don’t act like Aang would just leave his other babies in the dirt. Because that’s not what he did.
Toph looks to be quite taller as an adult when the camera’s up close, but when it pans out it becomes clear she’s still considerably short in comparison to Lin and Suyin if they were to stand. Short moms always have that intimidation factor that makes them seem bigger than they are lol
Lol yep. Both me and my mom are 5'4 but I remember very well when I was 8, she looked very tall intimidating every time she threatened to whoop my ass lmao
@Daniel, I had the notion that Lin resented Korra (initially, in Book 1) because Korra being the Avatar reminded her of Aang, and consequently Tenzin, the guy who jilted her. But you raised a very good point which I had not noticed before: Korra is a lot like the young version of Suyin: rebellious and hot-headed.
I never really liked Suyin, she is a good example of how unfair the avatar world is, she skipped school, joined a criminal gang when she was only 12, participated in crimes, justified said crimes as though she had a case, scarred her own sister, didnt apologize for said scar then gets sent away by her ashamed mother. Being a beifong did she not consider how badly this would affect her family's reputation but who cares because she founded a city and had 5 kids and acts as though Lin has all the problems.
i still hate how the episode portrayed Lin as being "in the wrong" without having Su get any kind of comeuppance whatsoever. Lin DID her JOB! she did EVERYTHING she was supposed to do, and she did it right. and Su gets bailed out of jail while Toph gets mad at Lin for doing what she was supposed to do while ALSO being a major hypocrite by keeping her daughter shielded from the law. and yet Su gets the perfect life, and "moves on" and WOW isn't she so enlightened for keeping her eyes on the future and believing in moving on from the past? yeah, except she NEVER took responsibility for what she did in the past. did she even say sorry for scarring her sister for life? and when Lin calls her out on it, Su makes it seem like she's the one in the wrong for "not getting over it." and on TOP of that, she made a really low comment on Lin and Tenzin's relationship. and despite all this bullshit, Lin still finds it in her heart to let go and reconcile with her sister. her karma-dodging, gas-lighting, responsibility avoiding, holier than thou sister. like, seriously. FUCK. SU. and PRAISE BE TO LIN for going through so much betrayal and corruption and still having the inner strength to be a good person.
YES!!! AGREED!! Thank you for this comment. I have been thinking exactly the same thing. This is why Lin is officially one of the strongest characters in the show.
Su's comeuppance was season 4 LoL. You want to teach your kids that you should just do whatever you want without following any rules. You want to teach your kids that's it's fine to harbor ex pirates and war profiteers as long as it benefits you. Suyins I do what I want in the name of progress backfired on her hard. Now she has a monster of her own creation, Kuvira. And then Kuvira took her city, took her family, turned her son against her, and almost took her life.
Jaylen Williams - Dude seriously? Su did move on but not for the "better". She literally did not say sorry for scaring her sisters face, breaking the law or behaving like a stupid spoiled brat. She never took responsibility for what she did, she could've attempted to make up for her mistakes by apologising to Lin, and maybe Lin would've had a much better life but noooo she never tried even ONCE in (what like 10 years?) and she had the nerves to tell Lin to "get over it". Honestly Lin is justified for hating Su. For what Su achieved you'd think apologising wouldn't be that hard.
"You are the only one who wants to hold on to this family drama nonsense" Yeah so favouring your youngest right in front of the eldest, basicaly humiliating Lin in fromt of her sister who didnt respect her to begin with on top of never seing her struggle and hiding who her real dad is its none sense?
Toph grew up sheltered from peers her own age (up until the Gaang), and had her capabilities severely underestimated by her parents. So she obviously did everything to avoid falling into the same pattern as her parents, by limiting expectations and granting Lin and Suyin too much freedom. It’s not that Toph “didn’t care” for Lin and Suyin, she just didn’t mind how they chose to express themselves and didn’t think to mind their different hobbies and skill-sets. I’m not saying Toph is in the right, and I totally agree that Suyin was being a disobedient brat. But I kind of understand why. I’m not trying to defend her actions, but she’s a teenage girl who has minimal expectations, too much freedom and not a whole lot of parental guidance. It’s not that surprising that she joined a gang at twelve-years-old.
This is a thing I really like about tLOK and AtLA that I feel is a bit underrated in the former. It’s not afraid to show major characters messing up and just being normal humans. They made mistakes, and most importantly of all, sometimes bad choices go unpunished. Lin is in the right here but she is punished for it. Toph obviously had no ill intent with her choice, and was just doing what she thought was right that was in line with her character.
So like give Su her own jail cell/house arrest, or at LEAST like probation. There is ALWAYS a way to discipline someone and if she had explained to Lin THAT way it would have come off as a genuine safety concern rather than neglectful parenting. Lin didn't want her sister physically hurt or killed, but she did want to see her disciplined which is probably the MAIN reason she's such a tight ass herself. It was such a staple in her life that it's became her main goal in changing the world, holding people accountable.
watching this Years later with all of the news reports of corrupt cops in the US who take advantage of their positions of power to do what they please coming into the light with each passing day. Also with reports of people who come from money or have family connections getting off easy when they commit a crime, I'm 100% with Lin in this situation. This scene which was meant to be very gray at the time did not age well.
Ethan Steel At the time this came out I didn’t think that cops bending the rules and people using connections to get out of trouble was THAT big of a deal or that it could be THAT bad. Years later I saw how it absolutely could be. Knowing what I know now years later, I find this kind of thing very distasteful. I had an idea. Evidence and experience proved me wrong. I changed my stance I’m pretty sure that’s how it supposed to work
I feel so bad for Lin. It really bothers me that NO ONE calls out Suyin for the comment she made to Lin later on, when Suyin, bitter and annoyed because Lin refuses to allow Suyin to belittle her pain by sweeping everything under the rug - snarks to Suyin about "No wonder Tenzin dumped you".) This was DIRTY and UNNECESSARILY hurtful. Lin was only attacking Suyin with legitimate gripes. Meanwhile Suyin goes under the belt. She has NEVER apologized for SCARRING Lin, both emotionally as well as physically. Suyin actually seemed to be REWARDED; she got a loving family, is rich, is FOUNDER OF A CITY, etc. Meanwhile Lin has never gotten over the pain caused by both her mother and sister. Not to mention she was ABANDONED by a boyfriend who dumped her AS SOON AS something he deemed "better" came along. Tenzin claims they had been "growing apart for years" but if he felt that way, why didn't he sit Lin down and talk to her? It's clear they weren't in the same page. I blame Toph for this. It seems like she put all her expectations onto poor Lin, making her carry the weight of "family honor" while Suyin danced around like the little hooligan she was, hanging with PETTY street THUGS and STEALING. Yet Toph covered for her hooligan child when really Suyin could have used this punishment as a wake up call. Lin never got the justice she deserved. She just gets sidelined by everyone, written off as "bitter" and expected to just "get over" her pain. It's clear Suyin never really grows up. As we see, Opal and Kuvira had many of the same issues Lin and Suyin had. In this case, Suyin allowed Kuvira to belittle and attack Opal, who had NO BENDING ABILITIES at that time.
@Pro Justice That’s not how things work. The point the writers are trying to bring out is that life sucks. People can do bad things and still have a happy ending while others who live righteously get screwed over. The point is, it’s best to just let go and move on.
Exactly. Suyin it seems to treat her sons better than her daughters. She immediately forgives Baatar Jr. despite his role in Kuvira's regime (he was practically the Emperor consort.) and pulls some strings to get him a more lenient sentence. She allows her youngest sons to come with her kill their older sister figure in her sleep but she never contemplated that she would have to kill Baatar Jr as well since leadership would transfer to him in the event of Kuvira's untimely demise. She also quickly dismisses Kuvira's feelings that she was never really apart of her family which is true given that does not introduce Kuvira as her child in Book 3. When Lin states that it must be a nightmare to have five kids she doesn't bother to correct Lin that she adopted a sixth. Kuvira's last name isn't Beifong so she never formally adopted her. She isn't present in any of Su's family photos and is not present at Opal's farewell dinner. She never reprimanded Kuvira for smashing Opal's dollhouse or Opal for calling Kuvira a stray animal that no one wants. Opal was scared to be open with her mother regarding leaving Zaofu. Su states that she views Kuvira as something like a daughter to Korra not she is my adopted daughter.
0 Aang’s and Zuko’s parenting style doesn’t seem too surprising once you think about it. Aang was raised by monks and has no concept of a two-parent family in his culture. It was also made clear that he desperately grasped on the hope of restoring Air Nomad culture as seen in ATLA when he got extremely mad when the Northern Air Temple was industrialized. Even though Zuko had a huge leadership role for his nation, Aang had the greatest leadership role not only for the whole world, but also for spiritual balance; that leaves little to no time for family matters even if he wanted to be a more attentive father. It’s a sad reality. Zuko on the other hand, despite having a terrible father, lucked out on having a mother who nurtured him as well as Iroh who was very wise, loving, humble and treated Zuko as his son after Lu Ten died. In the comics, we also learn that Zuko was always a gentle and kindhearted boy as a small child, so much so that his father thought he would be a non-bender at first since many fueled their firebending out of volatile emotions.
We do not know if zuko was a good dad ! Izumi dosent spesk about him ! Maybe he locked Izumi in a cell everytime she reminds him Azula. Maybe, as she hit 14 he crowned her firelord "to teach her the job"
In the end Su got away scot-free, and more or less forced Toph to retire the year after And still had the gall to ask Lin "why are you still mad at me?" 30 years later
To be fair, I think Lin is more mad at Toph than Su. Toph doesn’t treat them the same, and Su gets preferential treatment. But, that’s also not Su’s fault. Lin isn’t directing her anger in the right spot. Her anger is justified, just aimed wrong.
Su: I owed my friends a favor. It's not a big deal. Me: Oh, sure! Aiding and abetting criminals in a robbery is totally not a big deal! Especially when your mom and sister (well, half-sister, anyway) are a part of the police force! *I'm being sarcastic*
***** you cant be arrested forcdamage to personal property enless the owner files charges. And she would of been trying to find things she did that are illegal and get her arrested for it. J-walking. Public indecency, etc.
***** i was going to compare it to poltics. But it actualy is polotics. So its just like my mothers ex boyfreind. He had been heavily suspected and even had witnesses to crimes he had done. But they couldent arrest him. When he tried to steal from her they used that as a reason to arrest him. Then proceded to investigate follow through with the other charges. Nothing illegal done. Atleast not on the polices part.
God I freaking hate Suyin. She permanently scarred Lin for life and commited a crime just for Toph to let her go scot free. She was a spoiled brat that got preferential treatment and was rewarded for her toxic behavior. I also really hate her high and mighty attitude in TLOK. She doesn’t even have the empathy to understand where Lin is coming from. She’s just terrible.
Squiggly Pop ya and when they do reunite she spends all her time talking about how she's changed and how her sister needs to get over the past while never actually doing anything to mend bridges or atone for her crimes. Yet the minute that someone else has opinions and ideas of their own, she shuts them down. While I don't agree with Kuvira, its pretty clear Su Yin has a large role in her creation.
@@karleecraziness9216 Except when Lin finally does come to Zaofu. Suyin doesn't bother to actually apologize until after she triggers a fight with Lin by bringing up her relationship with Tenzin which is a very sensitive topic for Lin. (It wasn't even that good of an apology.) She instead gushes about her city and her family. Suyin wanted the victim to come to other side of the world for an apology instead of directly going to Republic City to apologize. There was nothing stopping Su from organizing a small short family vacation to Republic City so she could apologize to Lin and introduce her to her new family members.
What I don't get is Toph not blaming Suyin and letting her off the hook so easily. I mean, her mother is Chief of Police, she stole money, scarred her sister, and still got the long end of the stick? I feel bad for Lin. Suyin didn't even apologize immediately, she blamed Lin instead. I thought Toph would at least bend Su's ass to jail for a while, but no. What happened to the old Toph?
+pretty2 sam Yes sound very unfair that she protect so much Suying and talk the wounded Lin as she were at fault. I could have thinked that old sifu Toph could make Su regret being such brat, but instead she become corrupt, and left her get free and go away with that awful behaviour.
I thought Toph was always a trouble maker, when did she become the great old sifu that object and punish every mistake? You guys think she is Kitara or Tenzin? Just because she is the chief of police dosen't mean she is all up and proper now? I think her ripping the report is exactly what she would do, its not like she totally let Su go free, Su was kinda banished.
They show a bit of it in the Last Airbender. Toph's parents were very protective of her, and her childhood was extremely sheltered, and her parents had absolutely no idea how powerful an earthbender she was!
Julia .Saramando Actually, I would love to see a series where they featured the original team Avatar as adults. That would be very cool to watch. Sadly the producers have said that Legend of Korra is to be the last of the Avatar series.
In Lin's shoes, I would have put my sister's friends' heads through a wall for being thieves. Still can't understand what went through the writers' heads to reward Su for her bad behavior while Lin gets portrayed as a bitter person for doing her job and upholding the law.
I think they wanted to say that we have to learn to let go and shouldnt make things to please others. Lin wanted a life to proud her mother. But she kept that disturbance with herself all the time. But youre right about sometihng. Writers really loved Suyin and showed shes right(!) a everything she does and she get away with it. Lin felt betrayed whole her life. By her sis by her mother by tenzin. Her life is tragedy really.
It’s a frustrating reflection of real life. Sometimes, doing the right thing leads to a tough life, while doing the wrong thing can be easily forgiven if you have certain privileges. Also, it’s another showcase of the generational effects of parenting.
sometimes thats just how real life works i guess. I feel sorry for Lin. 'Learn to let go" isnt that easy. Toph and Su are wrong here, but i have seen this happened in real life for so many times. We can only do our best, but luck is not gonna follow good or bad behaviour, it's random.
Honestly? Displaying reality. I have a similar situation in my family and my brother ALWAYS gets away with it because NO ONE, not even COPS, are willing to ACTUALLY follow through with punishments because they feel bad he's an idiot fucking up his life, which is the exact reason he's literally an issue in the first place. You'd be surprised what opinionated parents will let you get away with if they can't just easily shame you into good behavior. Ironically it's BECAUSE you're more mindful of others feelings that your getting the shaft while it's their blatant disregard that lets them get off Scot free. You have a higher bar than them because of how low they continually stoop. It sucks.
Suyin was young and dumb, but she grew up and reached out to toph to apologize. They both tried to reach out to Lin but she refused. I dont blame her, but failing to reconnect and forgive is her choice
+carzell well yeah she's blind but she's gotta to be able to read to do her job, I'm just assuming that her paperwork is brail so she can feel the lines.
Immanuel Arriaga Wdym that’s the point? That she’s negligent and cares more about her reputation that doing what’s right in regards to her own daughters?
J. Alexander it’s more, she’s doing the exact opposite of her parents: she gave her kids too much freedom and forced them to figure it out on their own when there was trouble, unless it was absolutely necessary
J. Alexander Ummm, yeah. For the most part. The point is to show how poorly she handled this situation and how it ended up messing their entire family dynamic for like three decades. Not that that dynamic was the best from the beginning OR that it would’ve been any better if Toph put Su in a jail cell literally alongside all the criminals she and Lin had put away while taking Lin’s side on this. She even straight up says, “You two have put me in an IMPOSSIBLE situation!”
Um, you really don't get it, do you? The way Toph said "This is our only option" is because she's the chief of police with a child in jail. It would be ironic, because she wants to enforce the law, yet can't control her own child. Who would listen to to a chief with an imprisoned child?
I never will never understand why Lin was meant to be "unreasonable" for not wanting to reconcile with her sister or mother. In this entire affair she's the only one who isn't in the wrong and I get the feeling this isn't the first incident, just the most extreme one, of something like this. Add to the fact that it's clear Toph barely cares about her when you see her in book 4 and Su never properly apologised for permanently scarring her sister just for doing her job. I just don't get it.
+TheMegaUzumaki granted I forgot about that but she also sacrificed herself for Tenzin and his family. what else did she do? Her sister never made up for what she did she never even tried.
+TheMegaUzumaki and saving his family had nothing to do with stopping the equalists, tactically speaking it would have been better for her to escape with Tenzin. Sometimes actions speak louder than words and you would probably forgive someone who sacrificed themselves for you and your family.
i think i will never like su...just because of the way she acted her and got away with it...sadly this kind of stuff kinda happens also in real live. :(
Well, we all know that Toph can't ask, "Where does Su get it from?" Just a few decades earlier, a certain blind earthbender once proclaimed to her friends: "Let's break some rules!"
Why wouldent he like her ? She is very brave She looks great Always trying to do the right thing .... The only thing I dont get is why would she like him ? Well I guess I obly like spiritual airbenders
@ST H i kinda agree on you on that, but im mostly am talking about aang treatment ratio with his kids attention span and stuff even if i am the president of 62 countries and own hundreds of companies to manage (thats impossible both as an accomplish for a person and no one would do that) id still throw couple minutes for my little boys and girls, now aang does that but the percentage is pretty much one sided 80% tenzin 10% bumi 10% kya kya got mom to help her out since she is a waterbender and mostly avatar world culture passing bending skills is important as passing business lessons for a thriving rich family that percentage isn't really that accurate but yall got the point that aang could have atleast not rush it out, he himself knew the lessons and experiences of having to deal with fire nation royal family weird antics, friends with zuko he knew his sis and dad are questionable people and how important it is that iroh is there for zuko and also he gotta know about family issues too, he felt abit lonely after the people who he thinks as family got massacred while bumi is left in the dust, now i mentioned iroh, zuko and stuff cause bumi got same situation he luckily has uncle sokka out there spending time shouldn't be too uneven no matter how desperate and lacking in time you are to revive the Airbender back, atleast he didnt give cold shoulders and burn his own son's face thats that and ya he got lots of problems with being avatar might have forgotten a simple bad step might turn one of his kids as a huge villain for the next avatar too sad he left out parenting and just be making tenzin "Be a genius or else.." kinda situation too

Okay guys, the endless debate coming to a close: Lin's father was Kanto, and Suyin's was (likely) Satoru. It could also be Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, or Kalos, but most likely Satoru.
@@seanbotti5385I don't ever see Toph getting fired even if it got out she tampered with a case. She founded the police in Republic City. The worse she would get is a lecture.
Suyin is definitely how I imagine Toph at age16! Like exactly how I think she was acting, since in avatar we only got see Toph at age 12! You can definitely tell that's her daughter!
classeychicforever I was going to have a rebuttal, but there's nothing in your statement to contest. Toph was an underground fighter, a rebel, a thief, a scam artist, a fugitive, AND a war criminal before she turned 13!
I can definitely sympathise with Lin in the overall show. she did everything perfectly. taking after Toph by becoming a cop, enforcing the law amazingly, and being able to raise her younger sister mostly by herself. yet her story is genuinely so tragic. her emotions and feelings always being belittled by others because everyone else is so used to her being this “bitter” emotionless woman. being called selfish by her younger sister yet she was the one that sacrificed herself the most for the people she loved. Becoming abandoned by the love of her life once he found someone he deemed “better” than her because the other was willing to have a child with him. But she still seems like the one getting punished for being the most unproblematic, heart of gold woman ever. she learnt the hard way that you don’t know how strong you really are until being strong is your only option. the last time she ever trusted someone she got her heart broken then her face permanently scarred. yet people still can’t see why she’s barricaded herself behind invisible walls, lmfao
I watched this show last year, I still can't get over how the people who were closest to her were the same people that hurt her and people still picture lin as the bad guy. It pisses me off so much when there's absolutely nothing I can do about it....
God I despised Su after this. The way she was a bitch to Lin even though she did nothing wrong, acting like Lin was the problem when it was her and she never even apologized for giving her a PERMIT facial scar. She didn’t even seem to feel bad, as if Lin deserved it. Definitely one of my least favorite LoK characters.
Like I would get it if maybe Su apologized and didn’t act like an innocent victim in the situation. Yes, Lin did refuse to talk with Toph and Su but she straight up had her face scarred and it seemed like she was the bad guy when she was just pissed. In a way you could see the two sides but Lin has a right to be angry
@@universesavior554 I always am reminded by this that people don’t have to reconcile. That you can’t force reconciliation. Lin didn’t want to met up, but did Toph or Su ever go to the city to try and reconcile? Lin by all accounts is a functioning adult with a job and a life of her own that she built up by herself since Toph and Su left her (yes they left her). She has no need to reconcile and Su has never once tried going to her to reconcile. The least she could have done is try taking the punishment and get arrested for those crimes of assaulting a police officer, robbery/accessory to robbery, and resisting arrest. But no, keep living away from her, and never try approaching. Make Lin have to travel to you. That’s how reconciliation works.
I feel like Lin acts too much as a vicim though. Yeah, Su is an ass because she caused literally everything, from scarring her sister's face permanently to making her mother break some rules due to her wanting to "have fun" (and most likely causing her to retire the following year because of that), and yeah, her apology always came off as insincere, but it always feels like Lin wants a medal for being treated badly, especially over something that by the time of the show, it happened decades ago. She has all the reasons to stay mad at her sister and not accept her apology (and her mother's too), but from what we've seen in the show, it's not like she's willing to at least hear Su out before lashing at her like a kid (even though she's a grown woman) and judging her even though Su (supposedly) learned about her actions and "changed" for the better. And it doesn't ends there, because she also directs her anger at people who had nothing to do with her dysfunctional family drama. Overall, I think Toph is the one who's mostly at fault here, yet everyone forgets that she exists here. Not only was she a neglectful mother for both of them, but she also coddled Su's behavior by breaking those papers, and while I get the reasoning behind as to why putting your own child in jail could be risky for a Chief of Police, she could've still punished her in other ways, such as giving her a separate jail cell from the rest of the prisoners (which is less bad compared to simply sending her off to live with her grandparents).
@@stephj505thats not the point. To be able to cover it up completely she sent su away out of the country so the law would be void. Thats why she told her to leave as soon as possible and go live in gaoling
@@youngmaster7405 there was no point. you dont seem to understand that people know she did it to cover up what su did, the issue is the lack of punishment. Her daughter helped as a get away driver and she got of with no punishment
@@marngao how do we know that people know? the only people that would know what she did is lin and maybe a few high ranked officers and of course aang and the group. I can admit that I don't have conrete evidence for that statement either but continuing in that would go into speculation which I hate. the lack of punishment I get it. toph would look bad in the eyes of the public or law if her daughter was in prison. it would cause a lot of uproar and drama. I would consider being sent away from home indefinitely is a pretty good punishment, not what su deserved but a passable one. also there wasn't much toph could do to punish her if the goal was to cover it up.
Nope, she's still a brat tsukabu. She gave safe haven to varick, a wanted war criminal just so she could make some money and increase her ego. Minimizes her intense and lengthy criminal past which she never fully apologized or legally atoned for. And still lives a care free life free from hardship, disregarding laws and other people to suit her own ends, just like when she was younger.
Reading these comments, I can tell a good amount of y’all didn’t grow up with abusive families and had to deal with the psychological damages. Tbh, it takes years to get over that kind of damage, especially when the people who caused it left you to deal with the hurt for years before trying to “reach out” and half-ass taking responsibility.
Well firstly around the time she joins the team she’s around 9/10 years old, that’s fact. And secondly, what does this have to do with her raising her children? I’m literally talking about her daughter Lin and her trauma she developed growing up with the family she had..
@Hitado Dota nope. But I do blame them for the blatant sexism, classism, and conformist attitudes they tried to suppress her with. You're not my daughter, MY daughter is a poised elegant lady who knows her place as a delicately flower who NEVER leads a life of her own. Either extreme is bad parenting mate. Let your children run buckass wild is bad just like suppressing your child's identity and personal growth because YOU'RE uncomfortable that they're deviating from your rather high expectations that leave her entirely out of her own life choices. NO ONE is bitching that they MISSED her, they bitch because of the reasons they LOST her. SAME THING with Toph, Lin, and Su.
"I can't have a Daughter in jail!" Sure you can! It's called setting an example. No one is above the law, not even the offspring of the world's greatest Earthbender...
@@shinigamiking8908Yeah. At first I was upset that Toph didn't send Su to jail for at least a week to teach her lesson and to show that no one is immune from being punished for their crimes but maybe Toph overlooked the crime to protect Su from the criminals in jail.
Years later. I do not like Su, I feel for Lin who has to put up with all of this. Su and Toph tried to reconcile at one point. But didn't even bother visiting Lin instead. If Su was really sorry she should have just gone to Lin's house at one point and apologize. But no that never happen. She lived like royalty. Lin had to be bitter and alone. Had Su tried to reconnect with Lin directly things would have been different with Lin.
Anakin Skywalker Lin was just doing her job and trying to help Suyin, and what does she gets? A scar and Suyin didn’t even apologize in the moment she did that she says to Lin “This is your fault”
Yeah, honestly I fucking hated that argument “WeLl YoU dIdN’t show up to the family reconciliation that we had planned”. You can’t force reconciliation for a wrong you committed. You scarred your sister in the face, broke the entire family, and ruined your sister’s relationship with Tenzin. Yet you expect her to travel to reconcile? You expect her to make a journey for you? I’m sorry but fuck that noise. It’s fucking stupid to expect people to forgive you when you have done nothing to correct the wrongs you committed. It’s stupid to expect them to put in the effort of reconciliation
Su stated that she tried to reach out to Lin and Lin ignored her request. Maybe Su just didn't have the time to go to Republic City to meet up, or maybe she thought Lin wouldn't want to see her if she went.
I think it was actually a good part of Avatar to show that even our most beloved characters such as Toph can have their own shortcomings. She even just committed corruption by letting her daughter go unpunished which was a pretty dirty move especially since one of their main objectives in ATLA was to remove a corrupt empire. I understand how some fans may think of this as trashy writing, that they ruined the characters we loved by making them do shitty things such as Aang and Toph being neglectful parents but I think it makes it more realistic and relatable. Real people aren't perfect and the main characters of ATLA are no exception. There are many good, decent people we love in our lives that would at times make bad decisions that can be really shitty but we try to get past those just like how in the end Toph wanted to make things right with her daughters.
@Brainy What? No. It will set a good example. That she punishes people accordingly without bias. Letting Suyin goes mean she is now a corrupt head who uses her position of power to let criminals go free while covering their crimes.
0:29 This sadly reminds me of me and my younger sister. I'm like Lin, the serious miss little perfectionist, while my sister is Su, the one who does whatever she wants even if it is wrong.
Some people don't seem to know this: Aang wasn't a bad dad, he just was focused on something bigger than his entire family, and because of that, he didn't have time for all his kids, but loved them regardless. TOPH is a BAD mom. She actively dismissed her rule following daughter Lin, and continuously helped Suyin get away with her rebellious behavior and troublemaking. She was a bad mother figure, which makes sense for her as a person due to her upbringing and life in general.
This probably happened because Toph didn't get a life-changing field trip with Zuko.
But Aang got one, and look what he did to his kids

She was a teenager at the time.
Pelcogo A teenager may be impulsive, but you can still have a sense of responsibility. I was a teenager and I never broke the law or hung out with criminals.

That reminds me of Asami Sato's lineup of near-tragedies:
Every man in her life (Mako, Varrick, and even her own father Hiroshi) ended up betraying her at some point. She struck out in her love life, her family is pretty much gone, and she almost lost the business after spending so long to salvage its reputation.
Good thing is, those men have all reformed in the end, but it's no wonder that Asami ultimately finds comfort with Korra on their vacation.
she never got to now her father either.
She would have hated Sokka because he's Suyin's Dad. dun dun dun!!!

I feel bad for Lin. She followed the rules, became a cop, tried her hardest to make Toph proud, but in the end she lost out in having a better life. ***** Su and Toph moved on because their lives wasn't affected. Toph sending Su away, and destroying the report saved her career. And Su moving away gave her more freedom to do what she wanted.

In fairness this was an accident. Mostly.

Her fingers were bare. I think she could have felt if there were no writing on the paper.

I agree. Wasn't criticizing lovely Lin. Just pointing out an interesting vulnerability Toph has in administrative duties, lol.
Sad that Toph's life didn't play out that nicely.
Hmm yeah, but it's unavoidable karma for the reckless attitude that she had no regrets about in her youth.
Plus she never learned better parenting, and that seriously distanced her from her daughters. Her parents weren’t the best and she didn’t change much from her attitude from the first series. That lead to rough parenting and neglect, and little appreciation for what Lin and Suyin did, and that added to the tensions.
Sarah Costello and of course like in all cartoons the father is either absent or dead
Thus preventing us from seeing what he was like and how he interacted with toph
@mystic1410 Read the ATLA comics. Toph's relationship with her parents plays a major role in some of them.
I mean she also had too much responsibility and how her parents treated her plus the lifestyle she live but of course when she doesn’t have the position anymore she went back to good old toph thank God even aang would agree it would be the best tbh

Diego Medina lmao
I gonna pretend I didn't see that
They actually said that ?
A lot of families are messed up in the same way in real life.
ok so let me get this straight Su you yelled at Lin when she was trying to help you then knowing that your own mother and sister are cops helped criminals escape but when your Sister confronted you about this you say it's not a big deal and then instead of listening to your sister who probably would had let you go with a warning ignored her then scarred her without apologizing and then you have the audacity to say it's Lin's fault when you were the one who instigated everything...Really...what the hell

im not saying Lin didnt do anything wrong but what im saying is Su blamed her own sister who was just trying to help her in the beginning, scarred her for life, and didn't apologize for doing so. she doesnt or didn't take responsibility for what she did also im pretty sure Lin got in trouble for trying to arrest her ex's wife and for destroying their house besides wasn't aang still around? im sure a cool and calm guy like that would be ticked at someone who destroyed his home so yeah Lin had to have gotten punished for that.

Fascinating how Zuko raised the most well adjusted child out of the next generation of the Gaang.
He have Iroh, best father figure
@@Idkidc2173And when Iroh wasn’t available, he just asked himself what Ozai would do, and did the opposite. (It was easier than decoding his own impression of Iroh.)
I wouldn't even imagine Azula being a mother. She might have been worse than Ozai.
And years later she doesn't apologize for giving her sister a tough time or scarring her
Actually Su has said that she has tried multiple times to apologize but Lin didn't want to
I think thats the idea....
To me Korra as a while has the personality of cornbread. The character and the show itself.
Wtf this is a bad take. Su tried to make up with Lin for years multiple times, but refused to ever listen because she stubborn and set in her old ways. I feel like your on Lin's side because you've only seen her side and not any of Su's
Azula Eating Mochi I mean they are completely right but you can be wrong

can't understand the logic, sue is the one need to forgif to lin, not lin.
Lin is a victim yes, but she doesn't know how to let go of grudges, she refused to believe her sister had changed even when presented with the evidence. On the other hand, Lin never got the apology she was looking for, so I can understand why she cut ties w/ her family for so long.
The Tale of Beifong Sisters as an Avatar movie.

I absolutely agree. I couldn't remember her voice being familiar when I found this out so I had to look up the video :P
Young Su sounds like a teenage Toph.
It also blew my mind when I realized that Grey Delisle (Azula in the original series) voiced the younger Lin. She was spot-on.
@@yurakoh9679 And she also voiced Ming Hua!
I know right?! But all of the Korra characters behave like scum at some point. Exept for Bolin, he's too precious.
TheLastHylianTitan obviously you didn’t pay attention to the show. Su is far better than Lin. At least she grew up and made amends for her past actions. Lin didn’t, she will forever be a bitch
She got better, it's hard admitting you screwed up and she did raise her kids to be better than her.
Lin does, that's why she lets go and forgives her mother and sister.
You know times are dark when the almighty Melon Lord has troubles.
Not the gang... the Gaang ;)

That's why lin hates korra at the beginning coz she reminds her of su.
lin doesnt hate korra she just didnt like her at the beginning
@Daniel, I had the notion that Lin resented Korra (initially, in Book 1) because Korra being the Avatar reminded her of Aang, and consequently Tenzin, the guy who jilted her.
But you raised a very good point which I had not noticed before: Korra is a lot like the young version of Suyin: rebellious and hot-headed.
Nicholas Lawrence So true
Korra was also a pain for Lin to deal with, as the chief of police.
No she don't like Korra because of Tenzin
I never really liked Suyin, she is a good example of how unfair the avatar world is, she skipped school, joined a criminal gang when she was only 12, participated in crimes, justified said crimes as though she had a case, scarred her own sister, didnt apologize for said scar then gets sent away by her ashamed mother. Being a beifong did she not consider how badly this would affect her family's reputation but who cares because she founded a city and had 5 kids and acts as though Lin has all the problems.
Kalloos McAnhur and how did she get the money to buy that land? I bet it had something to do with the pirates she use to roll with.
bcount1 she's part of one of the wealthiest families in the Earth Kingdom, she probably inherited the money from Toph's parents.

LMAO sure... then why does lyn live in a shack
bcount1 you never see where she lives
Proof or gtfo
i still hate how the episode portrayed Lin as being "in the wrong" without having Su get any kind of comeuppance whatsoever.
Eeyup, agreed absolutely
Su's comeuppance was season 4 LoL. You want to teach your kids that you should just do whatever you want without following any rules. You want to teach your kids that's it's fine to harbor ex pirates and war profiteers as long as it benefits you. Suyins I do what I want in the name of progress backfired on her hard.
Now she has a monster of her own creation, Kuvira. And then Kuvira took her city, took her family, turned her son against her, and almost took her life.
No fuck Lin for being a self Righteous asshole , Su moved on for the better and her sisters been a bitter fuck her whole life
Jaylen Williams - Dude seriously? Su did move on but not for the "better". She literally did not say sorry for scaring her sisters face, breaking the law or behaving like a stupid spoiled brat. She never took responsibility for what she did, she could've attempted to make up for her mistakes by apologising to Lin, and maybe Lin would've had a much better life but noooo she never tried even ONCE in (what like 10 years?) and she had the nerves to tell Lin to "get over it". Honestly Lin is justified for hating Su.
For what Su achieved you'd think apologising wouldn't be that hard.
"You are the only one who wants to hold on to this family drama nonsense"
Yeah so favouring your youngest right in front of the eldest, basicaly humiliating Lin in fromt of her sister who didnt respect her to begin with on top of never seing her struggle and hiding who her real dad is its none sense?
Su is 15 here and tbh id do the same if i was in Toph's position
I like Toph, but she'd most likely fail a child psychology class if she ever went to college because she has no idea how kids work.
I can understand Toph's fear like" i can't put my daughter in the jail full of criminals that i locked ".
That obviously wasn’t it. It was to save face. Toph didn’t want her reputation tarnished

This scene which was meant to be very gray at the time did not age well.

Someone give this person a mic
Su was punished. Kuvira was her karma.
Wow, it could not be said any better!
Zuko and katara: best parents
Toph and aang: neglectful
John Reign Toph and katara as parents you could see a mile away but aang was surprising and so was zuko
In the comics, we also learn that Zuko was always a gentle and kindhearted boy as a small child, so much so that his father thought he would be a non-bender at first since many fueled their firebending out of volatile emotions.
ρεαcн•cαɱραηεllα Zuko also knew what not to do

Elie PK zuko would never do that
In the end Su got away scot-free, and more or less forced Toph to retire the year after
And still had the gall to ask Lin "why are you still mad at me?" 30 years later
To be fair, I think Lin is more mad at Toph than Su. Toph doesn’t treat them the same, and Su gets preferential treatment. But, that’s also not Su’s fault. Lin isn’t directing her anger in the right spot. Her anger is justified, just aimed wrong.
@@DC-ru8vf Being angry at the sibling who broke the law and scarred her isn't misdirecting her anger. She should just be angry at both.

Except when Lin finally does come to Zaofu.

I could have thinked that old sifu Toph could make Su regret being such brat, but instead she become corrupt, and left her get free and go away with that awful behaviour.
xCoatlicuex I know right? It just doesn't make any sense :/
I think she means if she put her in jail, because she was chief of police, someone would try to hurt her in jail.
real BubbleBums But still, she could've at least put her in a separate cell, punished her, something.

Actually, I would love to see a series where they featured the original team Avatar as adults. That would be very cool to watch. Sadly the producers have said that Legend of Korra is to be the last of the Avatar series.
Well isn't that a pity.
I wonder how Toph can read her paper work, is it written in brail?

That's the point...
The way Toph said "This is our only option" makes me think there was more going on than just her being in an awkward position...
defiantly
Um, you really don't get it, do you?
The way Toph said "This is our only option" is because she's the chief of police with a child in jail.
It would be ironic, because she wants to enforce the law, yet can't control her own child.
Who would listen to to a chief with an imprisoned child?

Carson Wade Well that explains quite a bit there.
The Chaos Dragoness and Lin is voiced by the voice actor of Azula

I never will never understand why Lin was meant to be "unreasonable" for not wanting to reconcile with her sister or mother. In this entire affair she's the only one who isn't in the wrong and I get the feeling this isn't the first incident, just the most extreme one, of something like this.
Add to the fact that it's clear Toph barely cares about her when you see her in book 4 and Su never properly apologised for permanently scarring her sister just for doing her job. I just don't get it.
***** what does she need to apologise for? Doing her job?
+TheMegaUzumaki granted I forgot about that but she also sacrificed herself for Tenzin and his family. what else did she do? Her sister never made up for what she did she never even tried.
+TheMegaUzumaki and saving his family had nothing to do with stopping the equalists, tactically speaking it would have been better for her to escape with Tenzin. Sometimes actions speak louder than words and you would probably forgive someone who sacrificed themselves for you and your family.

Okay guys, the endless debate coming to a close: Lin's father was Kanto, and Suyin's was (likely) Satoru. It could also be Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, or Kalos, but most likely Satoru.

I completely agree with you.

Especially since Su got things so easy, she got in trouble and got rich while Lin worked all her life to be a cop and seems to get punished for it
@@universesavior554 I always am reminded by this that people don’t have to reconcile.
The way she insulted Lin when Lin refused to forgive her too
Apparently Suyin doesn't understand that it's Lin's choice whether to forgive or not
I feel like Lin acts too much as a vicim though.

2:54 Only option for what Toph? I'm sure Suyin spending a night in a comfy jail cell will be sufficient punishment.
