ROGUE ONE: Deleted Scenes (in chronological order)

- All these ROGUE ONE scenes and dialogue were included in the official trailers and TV spots, but they were eventually left on the cutting floor during the editing, and were not included in the movie for different reasons. It's a shame, there are many great scenes here, from the planets Jedha, Eadu, rebel base on Yavin 4, Death Star, to the final battle on the planet Scarif!
I tried to arrange everything in chronological order.

essentially the whole trailer was made up of deleted scenes???
The movie had a different ending initially, one that would have left several characters alive, but they changed that later (therefore all those beach scenes from the end of this clip were deleted from the movie). They also changed some plot elements later (for example, instead of "coded imperial transmission" mentioned in the trailer, information about the Death Star is brought by defected Imperial pilot, Bodhi), and they changed Jyn Erso's lines spoken in the Rebel base, which were described as "corny" and "horrible" by many after the trailers were revealed. But it's unclear to me why Forest Whitaker has lost his hair during the film editing and reshoots :)
Apparently there were 30 entire scenes that were cut. One of those scenes showed Darth Vader cutting off Saw's limbs in a village. They haven't shown any interest in releasing a Director's Cut, which are always better than the theatricals. Fuck disney right?
RebelMovies Nice clickbate, keep it up! I hope your channel does well.
I mean... why wouldn't Disney want to release that, when it would make them more money? I actually think this reflects well on them... they gave the creative team a lot of freedom. I think the reason there's no director's cut is that the director got to do what he wanted with the theatrical release.
Edward Peters Actually no he didn't. Gareth Edwards had no say with the reshoots, and they were also done by another director. But to be honest, I loved the final product. I loved the fact that the heroes all die in the end, it was Shakespearean. It was an epic masterpiece and I was fully satisfied with it, and then some. The next Star Wars movie is being directed by the director of Looper, so hopefully it will be just as gritty as Rogue One.
I really wish they left in "The power we are dealing with here is immeasurable." It's epic.

Mr. Waldo it would also have been cool if they included Baze saying "They destroyed our home" I personally think it sounds vengeful and epic

the one of K2 saying "that is a bad idea" is from when Jyn boards the U-Wing on Yavin 4. they most likely voiced over "that is a bad idea" instead of "I have a bad feeling" JUST for the trailer because they didn't want to give away who says the iconic line.
That "iconic line" has gradually transformed into "overused line", since it is obviously considered as unavoidable by every Star Wars script writer (movies, TV series, games...). Rogue One script writers Chris Weitz / Tony Gilroy also could not resist the temptation...

Max Moon: You can look at that both ways. For example, if you look at Episode VII and see that we again have a huge planet/moon-size machine capable of destroying entire worlds, which only small fighters can attack by flying through a trench, you can call that a "tradition". I call that overused concept. Too much relying on that kind of tradition in Star Wars movies can lead to repetitive, even boring stories and characters. Luckily, we had a lot less of that in the Rogue One than in Episode VII. I hope that trend will continue in the following movies...
I agree with the concept, but I personally like the quote, to me it just feels like a tradition. but yeah the trech run was a major downfall of VII

Worked at a movie theater when this movie was coming out and I intricately remember how all of these were never in the actual film. I understand why they were cut for length or tone, but some of them definitely could have stayed and we would have potentially had an even more memorable film. Glad these are still around though.
I feel like 0:58 is from the alternate ending when Jyn and Cassiun escapes.

I believe the shots with the Death Star plans are from before the reshoot.
They are, because they weren't used in the movie, just used in the trailers.
So happy that, "I rebel" dialogue was removed. It was literally groan inducing.

1:54 I wish they left that shot of Tarkin walking towards Krennic as the Death-Star targeted Jedha, the way all the sea of imperial officers parted as Tarkin advanced was just so epic looking

Gareth Edwards has stated that "There are no completed deleted scenes" but I don't see how that's possible. These shots from the trailers and tv spots are clearly deleted scenes that were shot and edited whether B-Roll, alternate takes, extended bits of scenes we saw, or straight up removed scenes these are still completed scenes.

I was literally just thinking that. I wanted to know how the heck she'd deal with a Tie fighter shooting at her...and then it didn't happen.

These aren’t even full scenes, I kept thinking as this played “Okay so nothing special happens here” “Oh okay so it’s just a single line”. It’s just extra shots and altered lines. I have consistently seen fans rate Rogue One as one of the highest, if not the highest, of all Star Wars movies. It doesn’t look like there’s anything to restore. There is apparently more unreleased stuff than seen here in the trailers, but it’s more of the same - different versions of the same scenes, alternate shots less than 10 seconds long, just debris from all the reshooting they did.
The reason there are so many missing shots, scenes and dialogue is because they weren't happy with original cut, so they went back and re-shot a huge chunk of the film.
Isn't that why Final Storyboards are approved & signed off on? To eliminate wasted time
It's a good movie, but some of the characters are a bit lacking in development, including Cassian. I wonder if there's a cut that does that better.
after watching this i'm convinced that somewhere disney has a happy ending filmed where they all escape with the plans and live but decided to change it and kill them all

The Tie Fighter scene was never supposed to be in the film, it was only in the trailer for advertisement.

The scenes in the trailers were not used in the movie, becuase they were: Deleted from the movie, so that means that they are deleted scenes. You should really consider posting a comment with a big claim like that.
you guys will not believe how disappointed I was when I realized half of the scenes I looked forward to seeing weren't even in the movie! I wanted to see that discussion about the power theyre dealing with, with krennic and vader so bad!

I don't know why some of the shots couldn't have been left in. The statues in the dessert, the captured rebels escorted away, "they destroyed our home" don't change the plot and add rich world/story-building in quick visuals

They overtly advertised this movie with the Stormtroopers patrolling Scariff beach" shot at 2:43. Mostly through pictures of the scene. I don't get why they didn't include it in the movie. I is strangely iconic.

Nice efforts the title screens help put them in context. I heard the TIE by the platform was for promos only. Most of this stuff was simply for promotional purposes only. There really was no point in for Krennic to just stand on a platform looking at the ground in the movie for example.
Same as those Scarif clips. They had originally planned that there would be two buildings, the data storage tower and the communications tower. After they had gained the plans, they would've had to run to the communications tower while being apprehended by Stormtroopers, AT-ACTs and Death troopers. Apparently Cassian and K-2SO were supposed to be left guarding the Communications tower but were eventually killed. After the fighting had seized, Krennic most likely walked through the corpses and what was left from the battle and arrived to the tower were he entered the elevator and the story progressed as in the final production.
The TIE fighter scene on the tower was apparently for promotional purposes only, but it's possible that it was supposed to blew up the control platform instead of the other TIE variant that almost knocked Jyn off the tower. However, because it flew so close to the tower, it probably was a bit stupid looking so they just cut it out.
These trailers added "fuel to the fire" in the discussion about potentially misleading movie trailers... It is clear that some scenes were removed from the final cut as a result of reshoots and changes in the script, but some scenes from the trailers, like you said, were never meant to be in the movie from the moment they filmed them. The question is: is it ok to intentionally include scenes in the trailers which are filmed only for the trailers, but which "look and feel" like they are part of the actual movie? Is that misleading advertising?
It probably is. I was expecting that "The power we are dealing with here" line to be in the movie as well as Vader being aboard the Death Star, but nope. There was a lot of stuff I was expecting to be in the movie but then weren't, not that it made it worse though.
True, the one thing I'm disappointed they left out was vader in the control room though, it looked like it had a purpose and he and Krennic had some dialogue

Because that scene was originally what they were going to use instead of what took place in his fortress on Mustafar, afterwards they had reshoots to have it in Mustafar instead, which in my opinion is a better choice.

The Mon mothma dialogue on intercepted encoded imperial message Indicating a major weapons test shouldve been left in.
They took out a lot because Disney didn't want it to be a "War" movie. To much like Saving Private Ryan and I guess thought it was too violent. It also looks like maybe they were thinking of an alternate ending of them escaping before the Death Star took out the area.

"the world is coming undone" was removed because it was a brain fart on the part of the script writers by saying "the world" instead of "the galaxy"
"World" can mean not only one planet, but also all existence. It has multiple meanings.

Intriguing deleted scenes, but Rogue One is still by far the best post-prequel Star Wars movie.
This makes an awesome trailer for the movie, I can totally see an Imperial Sniper shooting the Death Star plans out of Jyn's hand as she and the rebels ran across the beach.
Jyn limping toward the hovering TiE Fighter... too bad that was not in the movie--- THAT was an epic shot! One that would have been etched into memory for years - too bad only in the trailer.

Glad they cut a lot of this the pacing would’ve been worse if they had to get the plans then run across a whole beach to that awkward looking communications tower
Considering this is just about the only good thing they've done with the IP since they bought it I wish they'd have left all this in. This movie is how you do fan service. You make it fit organically into the movie and not look directly at the camera with a wink. Example- they showed us why Luke was able to take the Red Five designation, because the old Red Five got killed at Scarrif. They used dialog and footage from the original that I think was cut and they blended it into the story.
They shouldn't have put Leia or Tarkin in it though, especially not Leia. If you're gonna have a CGI Tarkin they should have just shown him in the reflection instead of having him turn around.
I think it's good that trailer didn't shows the actually what actually in the film but give a good direction what is about.

This goes to show how hacked to the freaking bone the film was. I feel it would've been much better if given the focus and direction it lacked.

so all these reshoots revolved around the actual delivery of the plans, clearly they were going to have them run them back to a ship or something as we nevef got the iconic scene of jynn runnjng towards an AT-AT with the deathstar plans

ya know I can honestly say with some real confidence that the movie makers filmed all of those clips on scarif and put them in the trailers to add appeal to the scarif dlc for battlefront. I mean the way the dlc is set up turned out to be nothing like what actually happened on scarif but in order to make people think that it followed the real story line they added in all those clips.
and it also validates the use of krennic as a hero in the dlc bc in the actual movie he never stepped foot on the beaches, and the last part of "infiltration" was carrying the plans to the escape ship which also never happened in the movie

Not all of those are deleted scenes, as they show camera crew etc.. more like behind the scenes footage. Also I think the scene with the troops running inside was used, but it was flipped.
Honestly, I'm glad they did this. It spoiled practically nothing and got us hyped!

All the deleted scene are canon.
I heard most of the trailer scenes were made for marketing and weren't supposed to be in the movie. Or the plot changed which rendered some scenes to be useless. Like the com tower and the data room we're supposed to be two different buildings and the team had to run across the beach to get to the com part, hence the AT-ACT part.
These were all mainly in the movie except for 2.
They really screwed up this movie taking out all of the best shots in it
It was a great movie. I wish they did survive but there deaths now have so much meaning. I liked there characters they were gritty!
It just took one movie that was doubted and made fun of, to make all of these other prequels and sequels to happen.
So - if this misdirection is possible... than the last jedi is most likely a lie
There was no need to delete those scenes and may have made the movie better keeping them

beacose the director did a lot of scenes but at the end he want happy soo he deleted and changed scenes but at the end the movie Was very cool
