I have a partially photographic memory which trust me I’m not bragging about because I don’t like it but thanks to my lovely OCD, ADHD (& being super high functioning but still technically with Asperger’s such as Elon Musk has talked about having) if anyone actually reads this they will see that I send super long texts because I use voice recognition. Red/Blue Columbian Tetra is another that I keep in an unheated tank. The tank remains at a steady 20C for the most part and yet gets as low as 16C when doing water changes... Been going strong for about a year now...
The Cochu's Blue Tetra is another that I keep in the same tank and does well in colder temps...
There are so many that do indeed adapt because of their breeding in captivity. For instance, I have Amano Shrimp (Juniper) that are breeding in freshwater too (Yeah, not brackish at all), and they are doing very well... In fact, I'm over run with them and looking to gain store credit from my LFS.

I've been keeping Dwarf Blue Gourami at room temp for several decades. I was once given a 10 gallon with one of those fish, it was a juvenile from a breeder that never used heat - and this was in NH. The fish lived for 6 more years in that tank. Since then I've kept them with lots of different natives. I have a runt now, i call him a dwarf dwarf becuase he's so small, he's been happily living in an unheated four gallon for a year.

Paleatus cories are among the most cold tolerant of corydoras, with species handling 60f easily. There has been a case in a forum thread of someone having corydora eggs hatching at 50f, lots of the eggs didnt hatch but the fry that hatched were doing fine.
I think it is very possible to create a cold hardy pond strain of corydora paleatus.
My house during the winter regularly drops down to 64f inside, we don't like having the heater on.
I also have cherry shrimp OUTSIDE here in california. Water temperatures have dipped down into 35f and they are just fine. They are very cold hardy.
