    I own the euro version of this helmet, and I must say it is excellent. I've used it during a week of touring on a harley sportster in 30+ C (86+ F) weather, and it was always comfortably ventilated. During 8 hrs per day driving the helmet was always comfortable and quiet enough. Absolutely recommend it.

    Purchased this helmet yesterday, what a great helmet! really my favourite feature of this helmet is how well ventilated it is, i ride in Indonesia during a dry season (35 celsius in the middle of the day) and this helmet still keeps me cool...

    Hi Revzilla
    So i received my helmet yesterday and i went for 200km ride today (mostly fast B-Roads with around 100km autobahn)
    1st things first: AWSOME VALUE FOR MONEY! Respect HJC
    2nd i have had 4 helmets for some long trips till now: Shoei Neotec, HJC IS Max 2, Icon Battlescar and now this RPHA70. The RPHA70 has the ***BEST*** dropdown visor for me, not only its far from the nose or further from it, but the quality its at an OAKLEY Sunglasses level, with a light dark mixed with kinda of a very light blueish effect if you are good at noticing it. The transition between them on and off its nearly unnoticable, but make no mistake they do their job to remove glare and to much sunlight with no effort at all.
    3rd i choose a Large size for 59cm head like the specs required them and even-though i doesnt fit me as perfect as my Neotec does, with a simple balaclava, everything is perfect.
    4th had to install my Cardo Packtalk Bold set (with JBL speakers) on it before going for a ride, to compare it to my other helmet, pretty easy to install and not only that but the sound isolation was weirdly good, i mean i took my DB off just for the test (Z900 full system) and the way it sort of repelled the exhaust noise compared to my Neotec (going 4 years and a half) was kind of a black magic.
    Wind was something else though, the same level as the Neotec on its initial days, but compared to the Neotec, since this is a Sport-Touring and not Modular, it wouldnt give you so much freedom at turning your head side to side to look at the nature or birds in the fields (why would you do that u moron?? piss off i got bored on the autobahn .!. ) and here i might say this was the only thing i didnt like so much about it (not that it bothered me or something just need to get used to, speak my mind)
    5th as per those jackasses that complain about air flow, grow a pair, u either get air flow or sound isolation you dont get em both, BUT it was 34-35 degrees when i went for the ride, sunny as hell, full Dainese 2 piece leather on AND i simply opened the windscreen for a couple of seconds and thats it, no stress at all eventhough i was engaged in some nice twistiest at high Temp. There is a really good flow of air in it, there is nothing to bother i think.
    All in all for the price/quality ratio and looks i would recommend it any day of the week.
    As for me: Kawasaki Z900 rider, Puig Touring Winscreen and 169cm tall
    Cheers

  • @shiftlofi

    Hey Anthony,
    Thanks for the review; doing a great job as always! You mentioned the vents on the RHPA 70 ST are "nonactuacted" and positive and are somehow different than the diffusers on the RHPA ST from 2014-- can you elaborate more on this? My understanding is that the RHPA ST's features holes in the lining and composite matrix for air to be passively channelled back. This seems the same here.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only "non-actuated" vents on the RPHA 70 ST are those at the lower back of the helmet. "Non-actuated" means that the vents are always open and cannot be closed. The vents on the top rear of the helmet do have actuated vents, which means the vents can be opened and closed. On the older RPHA ST, those top rear vents were always open. With the new RPHA 70 ST, the vents are positioned better to flow more air when wanted while being able to close off more vents when it's colder. -DrewZilla

    Going from 2 sizes that are using the same head shell, MD to LG for example, is the cheek pads the only thing that changes? Or does the padding around the top of the head also change?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The top padding also changes. There are a number of ways that sizes are physically differentiated depending on the helmet. You have the outer shell size, the inner EPS hard foam size/thickness, then the comfort liner and cheek pad thickness. All these things add up to make different sizes. In the case of this RPHA 70 ST, MD uses a 12mm top liner and 35mm cheek pads. Size LG uses a 9mm top liner and 30mm cheek pads. Hope this helps! -DrewZilla

    On the site looking at replacment cheek pads it says xl = 30mm does that mean the xl helmet cheekpads are 30mm thick so if i want thinner pads i should orcer the 2xl pads that are only 25 mm thick? I just got the helmet and the checcks are really tight on my fat face but the rest fits well. tried to ask this on the revzilla questions page for the product but it does not seem to be working.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Q&A page is answered by other customers who have purchased the product. To answer your question, though, yes, you would order the 25mm cheek pads to get a thinner/looser fit in the cheeks. For this helmet, all cheek pads are interchangeable within all helmet sizes. I'll caution you, though, that the cheek pads do compress a good amount over time. -DrewZilla

      I just purchased the Shoei GT Air and couldn't be happier. However, I only paid $350.00 usd for a brand new one vs. $670.00 which is what everyone charges. If I was shopping today for a new helmet and wasn't getting the deal I got, I'd have to try on the 70 ST before making a buying decision because to me that's a big difference in price. One thing to note. The GT Air is closer to a long oval (narrower) than an intermediate oval. I'd also watch the review for the EXO T1200 and read the reviews.

    One of the reasons I bought this helmet was because of the sun visor. After using the helmet for a few months, suddenly the internal visor gained a mind of its own and I ended up having to remove it completely. It looks as though the internal mechanism has slipped apart (cable came out of its guide). I've been trying to figure a way of geting it back on track, but to no avail (even HJC's own publication - "REPAIR MANUAL (MODEL: RPHA 70 MECHANISM REPAIR) PUBLISHED 1 MAY 2017 (REV.01) DIVISION: QUALITY TEAM" was of little help). Is there anyone out there who might be able to shed some light on this? Thanks!

    Am tossing up between the latest Shoei GT Air and this helmet. My current lid is a Shoei GT Air and I love it, but I had an off after a cager pulled an illegal u-turn in front of me, without indicating. He was found to be at fault (welll....derr!!) I love the graphics on this helmet, especially the Hanoke pink. Shoei's latest line up is boring. If you were in my boots, do you think the GT Air is a superior helmet? Have they changed the design of the Shoei in the last few years?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The GT-Air is still the same. Since they're updating the Neotec to the Neotec 2, it's possible Shoei will update the GT-Air in a year or so. I still really like the GT-Air design as it is, and price aside, I still like it a bit more than the RPHA 70 ST. Considering price, though, the RPHA 70 ST offers a lot of quality for a good amount less than the Shoei. -DrewZilla

I just replaced my Shoes RF-1100 (Car merged into my lane on highway) with a RHPA 70 ST and it's my favorite helmet so far. I was really tempted by the GT-Air for a while, but I couldn't swallow the price. You can't go wrong with either though.

      Neither is better. They're almost the same in shell construction and features. Both have carbon fiber/fiberglass composite shells, internal sun visors, good ventilation, Pinlock shields/lenses, and intermediate oval head shapes. However, the HJC is a bit more affordable. -DrewZilla

    Hey guys, I'm looking into buying my first road helmet (previously wore the VFX-W) and will be riding on an S1000R... can you pleeeaaasse make a video for the best 2017 helmet for this kind of bike?
    I'm not looking for a "full tuck" kind of helmet like the Shoei X14, since I'll be commuting and all but I would like what is best for a roadster type of bike (money's not really an issue)
    P.S. I've been looking into the AGV Corsa R, Shoei RF 1200, etc... But I really can't decide which is the best. The only video I could find from you guys mentions the RF 1200, but at the same time talks about the Bell Moto 3 soooo :/

    Could be just how he was jostling the helmet around but I noticed he had to push the internal sun visor back up before removing the liner and it drooped down again when it was sitting on the counter near the end. I had a helmet before that was like that and it was terribly annoying, to the point where I removed the sun visor. Was this just from it being moved around aggressively, or does it droop when riding?
    Been thinking about upgrading the wife and my own helmet to a pair of these but don't want to waste the money if there's issues.

      Yes, you can put an RPHA 11 Pro HJ-26 on an RPHA 70 ST. The difference is that the HJ-26 for the RPHA 11 Pro has posts for race tear-offs on the sides of the shield. Even though the size chart lists 2XS, the smallest size in this helmet is XS. The size chart is accurate, so if you normally wear 2XS (51-52cm), this helmet in XS will be too big for you. Currently, only the Icon Airmada, Airframe Pro, Nolan N104 EVO, come stock in 2XS sizes. Additionally, you could get the size XS Shoei RF-1200 and get a thicker comfort liner to make a size 2XS. The D rings are thin and the pressed metal although deburred, doesn't have a good rolled edge where the strap passes through. My bottom of the range adventure helmet (cheap) has a far better quality strap and rings and it's far easier to insert the strap and tighten. Hoping HJC improve this aspect. Sounds like a minor point but when your trying to get going it can be annoying.

    Cool review :) I tested the helmet today and the odd thing is I can't seem to tell the difference between size L and size M. I happen to have a 58 cm head, so that puts me right between M and L, or in both, depending how you want to put it. The guy at the shop recommended size M and I tend to agree but thing is, what is actually the difference between the two sizes ? Just the padding ? Or is it also the impact absorbing foam layer ? And would you also recommend that I should take the M ?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 3 shells for the 6 sizes. M and L share the same outer shell, and it's just the soft head padding and cheek pads that are different thicknesses. M = 35mm cheeks and 12mm head liner. L = 30mm cheek pads and 9mm head liner. I am 57.5cm and wear size medium. At 58mm, I still recommend medium for you if it's comfortable. You can always swap just the head liner or just the cheek pads if you need a more custom fit. -DrewZilla

      @@SqNStyleR1 I took an L first, returned it and got the M. Actually I made a mistake when I measured, I thought I am 58 but I was actually 57 :) so I should have taken an M to begin with. Anyhoo, the crown fitted me really good so no brake in period was required, absolutely 0 pressure points even after half a day of riding or more. I had to get used to the cheek pads though but those are a perfect fit also, as in even now, after one year of use I can still bite my cheeks if I am not careful.
      As a side note, the crown is slightly more oval than my head so I can push a finger almost to the 2nd knuckle, right between my eyebrows in a roughly 2cm wide area but if I try to the sides, like starting above my eye and onward, it's properly fitted, meaning I can't put even my finger tip in.
      In conclusion and after testing ARAIs and SHOEIs I can say that I have an "ARAI" head and SHOEIs just kill my temples, too oval. So the RPHA 70 is definitely ARAI head shaped, maybe infinitesimally more oval :)

  • @ioandragulescu6063
    @ioandragulescu6063 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A tip for people deciding between this and the GT air (I or II). If the GT air feels to narrow, in my case it was pressing on the sides of my crown, above the temples, the rpha should fit better. They both are intermediate oval but the GT air is more on the narrow side and the rpha is more on the rounder side of the intermediate oval design.

    Dam this is a tough one. I’ve always been a Shoei fan and I currently own 2 but I also own a RPHA 11 Pro. Now I’m looking for a touring helmet and it’s between this and the GT Air 2 but b/c I already have 3 Sena comm systems I don’t want to have to buy another one and if I get the GT Air 2 I will have to do that 🙁

    Apart from the introduction, I appreciate these reviews, they seem to be very honest 'warts and all'. Mind you if they have warts, I don't think I'd want to wear the helmet.

    I love hjc helmets. Unfortunately can't wear them as their oval shape head design. Bought 2 before but sold them due to head pain (hot spots) wearing them. Tried another 1 but still same. So didn't buy it in the end. Wasted money on the 2 units. ☹️✌🏼
