  • What is the best foil? After trying 3 other foil brands I finally found something that gives riders the largest wind riding range, the best price, and best quality. Pretty hard to believe right? In this video I explain why F4 foils has risen to the top of the foil food chain for new and progressing riders.

    This seems very nice.. They ship internatilly, right?.. It would have been even better if they had shorter mast options. In Boracay, 85 cm mast will be too long during the low tide season

      Yes, they ship internationally. Wow, i never considered low tide challenges like that. I love the big masts but I guess that would be a challenge for you.

      Hi! We have a 72 cm mast as well for shallow locations and reefs.

    A lot of bold statements but it would be fair to mention that this video contains Promotion. Also you can buy a full beginner quiver from a well known French brand for the price of this foil. Can't say anything about F4 quality but would love to try it as they have good history with windsurfing race foils.

    Of all the videos on wing foling I find your videos as some of the most helpful on a lot of levels. Thank you for all your research and sharing your experiences.
    I see you once had a SAB front wing.
    Approaching the ultra light winds of summer, I was thinking of adding SAB’s Lev. 1550 to my quiver but it would also need a new stiffer $$$ mast. But even after that investment I would not have a faster wing when the winds pick up in the Fall.
    Your videos on the f4 got me thinking.
    I’m 86.2 Kg. (190 pounds) and have no problem staying on foil on long runs on SAB’s 1350 Leviathan which is good in light winds but stalls a bit too quickly as I’m learning to jibe.
    Current setup
    Wingboard HIPE Cruzader inflatable 7’11 (which is great for travel and light winds)
    Slingshot Wingcraft V2 80L
    1350 Leviathan
    SAB 83 Mast (not the new super stiff one)
    Stab 380
    Fuse 753
    Let me know if this makes sense, Instead of buying SAB’s 1550 (2140 cm2, AR: 11,30) I’m thinking of f4’s two wing setup (and selling my SAB rig)
    F4’s Lightwind 2500 Frontwing (120cm - 2500sqcm)
    Freeride 1720 Frontwing (94cm - 1720sqcm)
    Aluminum Plate Foil 85cm - V2
    Rear Wing (42cm - 340sqcm)
    Fuselage Wing 70cm
    Does this make sense? The GP Bonito 1450 Wing 1428 sqcm. sounds amazing as a third wing down the road but i’d have to get a second F4 most, correct?

    I enjoy your vids, thanks. One thing as a beginner regarding foils is the unbolting, taking apart of the foils necessary with aluminum. I currently have an aluminum set up that I bought cheap. But my second setup will definitely be all carbon. I mean who wants to have to take the foil apart to prevent seizing of the bolts. What a pain in ones *ss!

    Great video with good products from F4, but lots of bold statements there. As a complete beginner I bought ALL my kit for beginner/intermediate riders from Gong Galaxy for under 1400 euros... This included my 5'3 HIPE board, a 5m2 wing, and the full foil with mast front and rear wing. Also got the pump, bags for the foil and board. Amazing quality for the price, not sure they can be beaten. Plus this brand is used by pros and the world champ Malo Guénolé :)

    I'm confused. The title says 'Best Foil' but then you talk about wings. If the wing is the thing under the water then what is the thing that you are holding in your hands ?

    • @westcoastwingfoil
      @westcoastwingfoil  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shred, The parts of the foil include the mast, fusalage, front wing and rear wing (all are connected and go under your board in the water). It can be a bit confusing becuase the sail you hold in your had is also called a wing. If you check out this video it should clear it up for you: th-cam.com/video/7tQDHy-MQsw/w-d-xo.html

    Bolting the main foil onto a flat section with three bolts in a line when the foil is subjected to large lateral loads when carving..... not the best way to do things. Look to how Axis do this or Armstrong where the bolts are supported properly by the front foil attachment design. Also looks like the mast mounts flat to the fuselage with no support and just held with three bolts - again designs that have long since been moved away from by brands that have been in the game longer and know how to build a robust foil setup.

      No offence, but I hope you realize that F4 is a pioneer in foiling. They designed foils for Neil Pryde and a history of creating the best carbon fins in the early days. F4 has race foils in the PWA. As side from quality, F4 and Mike Labs are the most respected designers in foils. You can go to their website and see the new designs. The connections are top notch. Quality control coming out of China was another story. But they are fixing that.

      @J Vestal I'm just calling what I see from the video. Being a pioneer doesn't make you the best in the market today, it just means you have history. For example ferrari are pioneers in f1 but they haven't got the best car on the grid.

    • @nolipoli
      @nolipoli ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@westcoastwingfoil more valid, yes. One cannot be sure that you are being objective given that you are effectively being paid by F4 to speak highly of their product. TH-cam is full of this sort of stuff, often highlighted by titles like "The best...(insert sponsored product name here)"

      @@nolipoli I agree, it's a common theme across TH-cam. I guess you need to try and discern quality opinions from fake opinions motivated by profit. I try to be transparent with what I do. The best foil ever? Clickbait? Hope you realize that the aluminum mast from F4 is made by the same company that makes Naish. F4 quality hasn’t been that good. They are switching some production to Europe. Most guys are better off with SAB for the money.

    • @westcoastwingfoil
      @westcoastwingfoil  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. It sounds like you have an inside lane to some production elements. My main point was how the F4 starter pack still seems to have the best price and solid quality for that price point. I still stand by that opinion and feel like it's a great package for new and progressing riders. I appreciate you taking time to watch and offer feedback. I take all comments into consideration and will make sure to dig deeper into all elements I discuss.

    • @memomichailovif4foils
      @memomichailovif4foils ปีที่แล้ว

      F4 mast or products have not been produced in the same factory as Naish since 2018/2019 production year. So that outdates your quality statement as well.

    • @jvestal2949
      @jvestal2949 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@memomichailovif4foils I should’ve been clear on my statement. Quality in general with F4 has been an issue. One only has to go to a foiling forum and see for themselves about production issues. A good forum would be Seabreeze. Some issues have been with a carbon lay up and not close tolerances. I hope F4 has been able to rectify those problems. I know that Phantom Foils moved their R foils away from Sonic Composite due to tolerance issues. I know firsthand of a few individuals that had F4 that were produced between 2020 and 2022. Chris has been very good with warranty issues. And I think the new relationship with Bruce in the Hood River will help F4.

    • @jvestal2949
      @jvestal2949 ปีที่แล้ว

      One really has to be on top of the manufacturing process. The last three snowboards that I have purchased all had issues with the top layer. Not surprisingly all were made in the same facility in the UAE. Two of the boards were from YES and one from Arbor. And I would even add that SAB has had too many quality issues. And those are made in their own facility in Italy. Very few complaints or issues with foils have been from Starboard.
