I was 16 when Nena's version hit the air waves in Australia. Fast forward to early 2000's, I was a first time parent and heard Goldfinger's version on the radio and thought yeah, great cover version of the original. Fast forward to the present, working from home due to COVID-19 and I come across this video during my lunch break. Thank you Goldfinger for making my day :).

dont know what happened in the mixing/mastering but man they need to crank it up a bit !
@@nmarmz probably an error during the export from the video editing program, video standards for audio are -23LUFS(pretty low), youtube standard is -14LUFS(average for streaming platforms). if the video editing dude matched the video standard while exporting the final file then it's way quieter than it should be, it happened to some songs i mastered, i did them at the right level then the video guy dropped them down to -23LUFS.
youtube doesn't compensate for lower volumes, it just lowers whats higher than -14LUFS

I used to be a member of the Pyrotechnics Guild International. Once a year they have a week long convention and we get to experience new technologies and methods of displaying (class B) fireworks. Most of the displays have music playing while the shows go on. I think it was the bluegrass pyrotechnics guild while they were shooting their show this song was playing and I was blown away when during the last chorus somehow 99 very bright red lamps appeared in the sky it was amazing, so now every time I hear this song I remember that night fondly. Hearing and seeing these guys perform this song and remembering that night moves me very deeply, I do so live in gratitude for the efforts and talents of real musicians like these. THANK YOU!

If there's one song I'm known for playing, it's this one. Four bands across two decades, this cover is a constant. Thank you, Goldfinger for everything you have done to influence us all.
You know, I gotta say the merit of recording this way has to be that each musician can be 100% starpower 100% of the time. Just be the star of their own show, and when it comes together, it's masterful.

The German lyrics were incomprehensible. In the studio version his pronunciations are clear. In this one the first two couplets are gibberish. I knew what the words should be using, I haven’t been using my German like I should, but my German is pretty good. I didn’t hear the words I should have been hearing. You’re right I only listen to this song for the German verse.

jazzblaster punk isn’t about technicality it’s about feeling passion and getting the message out. It might be easy what they are playing but let me see you have the stamina to play a full hour and a half set playing these “easy” songs. Your wrists would give before you could finish.
Every single quarantine video gave a whole lot of hope. I just realized that I might actually get to see you all live one day. I missed you in Memphis in the 90s. Here's to the future, to Goldfinger, and to Feldman's chill ass dogs. Mine would've been going nuts.
My last memory of Goldfinger: they played a tiny concert in Cathedral Park for 94.7 KNRK in Portland, OR. They finish their set, the drummer stands up, pulls his shorts down and tucks "it" between his legs. That's it.

This is the reason I kept watching it. I thought it was a cool nod to MxPx at first, but eventually I noticed it was the actual guy. Ah, that makes sense. But then, also, weird, but cool. Was just relistening to 90s MxPx out of the blue recently. Maybe it's a REALLY clever marketing campaign based on our data or something.
Mike Herrera played in Goldfinger since 2016 as their bassist after Kelly LeMieux had left the band, who replaced the role of Simon Williams the original bassist from 1994-1999. Knowing shit like this shows the kids how old I am lol

i wish there were more covers of this song that bring out the full melancholic feeling and the pure sadness that the song conveys.
