Glock 19 or Glock 43X: Understanding the Size Differences for Concealed Carry

  • When they released the Glock 43x I wanted to know how much difference there is between the Glock 19 and the Glock 43x.
    The Glock 19 is one of the most popular firearms in the concealed carry market and fits most people very well. Several years ago Glock released the Glock 43 which has a short grip for most people.
    Let's compare the Glock 19 and the Glock 43X, focusing on their size and how it affects their suitability for concealed carry.
    *Glock 19:*
    The Glock 19 is a well-regarded compact handgun chambered in 9mm, known for its versatility and popularity among concealed carry permit holders, law enforcement, and military personnel. When discussing its size, the Glock 19 falls into the category of a compact pistol. It features a 4-inch barrel and a grip that can typically accommodate 15-17 rounds in the magazine, depending on the specific model and capacity.
    The size of the Glock 19 makes it a balanced choice for concealed carry. It's large enough to provide a comfortable grip for most shooters, offering excellent control and accuracy, yet it's still compact enough to be concealed under clothing with relative ease. Its dimensions allow for effective concealment while maintaining a sufficient ammunition capacity for self-defense situations. This combination of size and capacity has contributed to the Glock 19's popularity as a go-to concealed carry firearm.
    *Glock 43X:*
    The Glock 43X, on the other hand, is designed with even greater concealment in mind. It is considered a subcompact pistol. The Glock 43X features a 3.41-inch barrel and typically accommodates a 10-round magazine, making it slimmer and shorter than the Glock 19. The grip is narrower, which can be advantageous for those with smaller hands or those seeking maximum concealability.
    Due to its smaller size, the Glock 43X is often chosen for deep concealment and as a backup gun. It can be easily hidden in an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster or pocket carry, making it ideal for those who prioritize discretion. However, it's essential to note that the reduced grip size means less ammunition capacity compared to the Glock 19.
    In summary, the Glock 19 and Glock 43X differ in size, with the Glock 19 being a compact pistol offering a balance of capacity and concealment, while the Glock 43X is a subcompact pistol designed for deep concealment and discretion. The choice between them ultimately depends on an individual's preference, body type, and intended use for concealed carry. It's crucial to prioritize comfort, control, and accessibility when making this decision.

    After searching long and hard between the Sig P365, Glock 43/43x, Springfield XDm, and Ruger Security 9 I finally purchased the Glock 43x. Felt the best in my hand, just like you, it made all the difference from the regular Glock 43. Extra mag capacity was a plus. Overall solid everyday carry pistol. I have a slim IWB holster. Works wonderfully. Thanks for the video.

    I bought the 43 early on. I was carrying a Kahr PM9. I solved the pinky problem with a Pearce plus one mag extension and went one better with the Taran tactical plus2 mag extension. On top of that added talon grip tape and it's my favorite EDC deep conceal option.

    The Shield Arms 15rd mag is the game changer for why I carry my 43x now... As a smaller guy it’s much easier for me to conceal fully without printing and I don’t loose capacity. Still love my 19 she just doesn’t get as much EDC time. Now if Glock would just release the 43x with the rail on the front like the European version my life would be complete! For me (owning both) it came down to WEIGHT more than size. Yes, thinner is better for EDC but for the last 4 years I carried my G19 in a Tier 1 Axis Slim with spare mag all right in front of me. The same rig with the 43x is 14 ounces (yes, almost a FULL pound) lighter. And let me tell ya, THAT makes a HUGE difference around hour 4 or 5 of having a big hunk of metal in your nether regions. The comfort increase is amazing. A worthwhile trade off for 5 rounds capacity (don’t trust Shield arms mags).

Now that I'm retired, I'm looking pretty hard at the Glock 43X for daily carry. I got a bit lazy and started carrying a little Kahr most of the time, but I'd like a bit more capacity. Have a Sig 365x, but I don't 100% trust the internal safeties if something were to break. So the replacement came down to a Glock 19 and a 43x. I ended up getting the 19 because I find what runs the risk of printing is the grip, which they both seemed equal in. So in that case I would rather have a 19 with 15+1 than a 43x with 10+1. Even the Sig 365x grip, standard 365 slide on the xl 12 rnd frame, is about the same length s the 19.

    The 43x is pretty nice. Now that Shield Arms put out their 15rd mags it makes it much easier to carry than the 19 with the same round capacity. I will say go to a range and shoot it. These smaller guns take some training to shoot accurately due to their small size and light weight. The finish on these is much better than the 43 or the gen 4 glocks. Much closer to the super tough finish on the gen 3s. I’m pleased with the gun. Have about 400 rds with mixed range and hollow point ammo 100% reliable.

    I like the Glock 19 gen 3. I find it to be thinner than the gen 4. When it comes to the 3X. I would consider it, with the "New 15 round-set-up". The Glock 43x, by the time I get a new mag release and buy the special mags, I think I am looking at about 100.00. In addition, my glock 19`s 2 gen 4 and 1 gen 3-by the time I upgrade the parts I feel as a must, I am looking at 3-400.00. This includes the sights, aluminum rear plate, grip plug & a NDZ extended slide release. That is what I can think of with out going all the way I really want.

    Primary carry, Backup gun, etc. For you, yes, but tons of people consider the forty-three X their primary carry all-purpose gun for good reason. Most people have never and will never get into a gunfight and actually need the extra rds. AND the weight of the larger gun. Stats seem to bear that out.

    My glock 19 is my primary carry gun. And I like carrying a 4inch barrel pistol for the velocity and the slightly longer site radius. And as a retired federal law enforcement officer and firearms intructor, a four inch barrel is the medium barrel length I want to carry
    Thing main thing that led me to that decision was the Miami shootout. And some of the agents were useing 2 inch revolvers. And for a while I carried a 2inch colt cobra basically as a off duty handgun or a backup. But it became real clear that it really wasn't the best choice I could make. And my Browning highpower was a decent backup handgun to carry. But soon after I retired I began to look for a personal carry handgun as my primary handgun. And as I had handled a glock19, I was interested in it's weight and ease of carry. And since it filled my list of what I was looking for, and I haven't looked back. As a matter of fact I got a glock23 also. And I'm afraid the rumors of it's demise are premature. And the 40 cal is basically tied with the 45 acp statistically from a 4 inch glock 23 and holds more ammo. And before the 45 acp crowd Saddles up to lynch me. Study the recent study done by Greg Eloquest. And I've probably spelled his name wrong. But his study of 1800 shootings is probably the most researched effectiveness of not only hand gun calibers but rifle and shotguns. Since the same type of Evan Marshall in the late 70s or early 80s. And showed the most effective handgun caliber was a 357 125 grain hollowpoint fired from a 4 inch barrel revolver. And was confirmed by another disciple of Jeff Cooper. And I own a colt 1911 and it's a great handgun. But so is my glock 23 and a hold lot lighter to carry concealed. Especially in the hot high humidity during the summers were I live. And to be honest a ar9 or ar15 or a 12guage beats any handgun.

    The grip length is what matters to me on a carry gun. So if the grip length is the same as the G19, in my opinion, the 43x becomes obsolete. Why carry a non railed and less capacity choice for no reason? The standard G43 with 2 round extension plates allows my pinky to stay on the grip, but doesn't lengthen it to a G19 (or 43x) status. I've found in a smaller pistol, that I much prefer the current gen M&P Shield, or even the Walther pps m2. I sold off all three of those guns though because I found myself only carrying the G19. If I were to buy another tiny pistol, I would go back to the Walther because it's cheap, reliable, and shoots much better for me personally.

But whatever floats your boat just my opinion. I think they stuff rounds in mags and with 43x the springs are really compressed on last few rounds feel like the springs a r e going to ware quickly but we will see. 30+years of the 19 and it has gone through a lot of stuff from wars to self defense so thats why I love the 19s.

      I think the 48 is the best of both words full fighting gun in a carry package

    You can now put the Shield Arms S15 magazine (same size as original magazine) on the Glock 43x and G48 and have 15+1 ROUNDS CAPACITY! and that makes the G43x and G48 the winners for conceal carry (no brainer).

      @@BoomStickTactical It is such a game changer that is out of stock, but soon they will fix the supply problem and maybe made similar options to improve the G42 and other Glock models. Maybe the G19 with 20+ rounds magazine of the same size as the original mag is near.

    Does half a inch on the barrel make that much if a difference carrying?

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      At defensive ranges, no but the big difference between these two is the thickness.

    • @RobertSmith-bf6zi
      @RobertSmith-bf6zi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoomStickTactical it's funny you said that cause a few videos later i noticed how thin it was in comparison. Not gonna lie Im leaning at the 43x now that we got those 15rd shield arms mags

    Ive got a 19. Upgraded trigger shoots like a dream however I wear pants like Patrick Swayze and I cannot concealed carry. So I need a smaller pistol and this may be it.

      They're great. Also look into the shield arms mags. 15 round flush fit.

    Can those fixed sights be replaced on 43x? Thanx

  • @mfblackburn1980

    Why in the world did they release this without a rail? Had they just included the rail (even the P365 has a rail), then with an S-15 mag I could see this as a "1-gun" replacement for the 19 + smaller carry gun. Some users will opt out because they cannot put their light on the 43X. Just, WHY? Serious question, is it cost? Appearance? What?

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frame is much more narrower than most railed guns. It would require a line of accessories specifically for the narrow frame.

      I’ve specifically not bought one since the EU railed version with SureFire light was leaked. I’ll wait for it to hit the US.

    I have both and consider the GLOCK's to be the best. I wish Glock would make the grips with more grip texture.
