- Yes they sure did, lots of them! While patiently waiting for our caravan build to begin, we have lots on the go behind the scenes. For a while now we have talked about opening a Hip Camp at The Farm and finally we have the time to bring this to fruition. Starting small and keeping it private, we're creating 3 caravan sites around our dam. The sites have been carved out, the power has been run to 2 sites and the vision is truly there. Tune in to see what Troy has done and how it's all going to look. Plus we give you another insight to The Farm.

Good luck with everything in your future. Wedding, new ventures and life in general. Think about a prosperous business plan that will grow things how you desire to support a business from the start. Saying you don't want to make money (even just off the cuff on video) puts that thought in your mind. You have costs to what your doing - ongoing costs. Run it to make a profit from the start. They will come and pay you for the privilege. I had that mind set wanting to help people and not charge what I should have, and it was no more than breaking even. You put in the hard work, the hours, the work after people leave, to little extra's you don't want to charge for. What happens (when you don't want to make money) is you work for nothing in the end. Just something to think about guys. Put a business hat on and start strong.
Thanks Suzanne, yes we have a business plan in place for Journey Unknown. sorry, what we meant was that the hip camp isn't going to remove us from our day to day job. We're more explaining that we didn't start this hip camp to generate money it is more to increase the awareness of the Journey Unknowns brand. thanks for tuning in and providing positive feedback 🙏

Fantastic idea hipcamp..you could also join caravanovernightfarmstay and be a part of that as well. I for one would love to come over from the west and stay..and help around the farm if needed…eventually when we get going….You guys know what you want in a van and it’s going to be awesome…can’t wait to see it!!!

Love the idea of your hip camp. We always find having a fire pot or similar and also a picnic table or something like that, fabulous as it means less of our stuff to get out and set up when we arrive somewhere.

Good luck with your hip camp venture. If we still had a caravan, we would be there in a flash. I'm sure you have thought of this but, like yourselves, the caravaners of today fit out their rigs with many off-grid appliances such as solar panels. Parking under self-pruning Aussie native trees can be a worry.

The farm is looking AmaZing guys. We will def have to book in to stay for a weekend once it’s open. Great spot in Gippsland. Camp fires and adventure talks. You guys are so genuine and your content is such a joy to watch. First buffalo, then Ceduna will both be amazing. Book me in..

Another great episode. So hugely excited! We will definitely come to stay! We are coming to Australia in December with our Shih Tzu dog - Hewson - from NZ. Collecting our caravan and L300 from Melbourne area - so will be doing our settling in trips around Victoria. So appreciate that you will be dog friendly. You’re probably all over it already, but some gravel bases with fire pit stands on top might be an idea, that way you can control where and when fires are lit.

Hipcamp looks great. I would be a little wary of those overhanging branches for offroad vans but it could just be the camera. Best wishes for the wedding

You guys sure know how to keep busy!! Love, love, love it. I'd love to come and stay but it's a bit far for us and don't think we'll be doing any major trips East, at this stage anyway. Good luck with your venture. I've never stayed at a Hipcamp but do stay at some of the farms that are on Caravan Overnight Farmstay which I guess is similar and love them.

Sounds really good. Hipcamp area. Maybe you could think about larger groups in the future. Caravan clubs etc. I average 10-12 vans at a gathering. All they want is campfires , views …. Is there a dump point nearby? I would just come to camp with the dogs …. Coco is just beautiful as are the other dogs. Just want to cuddle them all. Best of luck.
Thanks, John. The Council won't allow large groups, unfortunately. Ceduna with 30 acres, we will have a better chance of larger groups 👍

Hey Guys the farm is looking great. We were wondering where your farm was as I recognised the surrounding areas. We have 90 acres in Toora Nth as our home away from home and love it. Well it’s just camping off grid. Keep the great vids coming as we like all the different projects and adventures. 🤙🏽

Just thinking after seeing yr aerial view…. What about a powered site under tree area and 1 or 2 sites away on grassed area so solar can work and they still have lovely views of the paddocks.
It will be great. Create fire pit sites. You could fill in some trees so can’t see sites from house so you have some privacy.

Wow its all happening,how exciting. i be keen to know the true process of becoming a HIp camp from your point of view..meaning i know you'll be honest. if i can throw a suggestion in..an enclosed dog run for those with greyhounds and grey x as they are to be on lead at all times ..be good to have a private dog run along the fence line for those travelling with greys...aka..me ...😃all the best with all on your plate. love to Coco xx ps congrats on the 10k 🥳

Absolutely would stay at both places. Deff less tress for us and needing all the solar to be off grid for long periods which means we stay longer 💯💯🤩🤩❤️❤️

As someone who was thinking of doing something similar down near the great ocean road and talking to council, they have recently closed the Rec grounds camping as has to comply as a caravan park now😢 Timboon & Simpson. They suggested maybe donation but 🤷🏼♂️
Couple of questions, how did you go with your insurance and with the dam will you have to be adults only (kids & water don’t mix) and maybe it will have to be “family & friends “ you have lots & lots of friends 😂

Hey Stewie, yeah, every council is different, and we may come across some challenges. but you're right. we do have plenty of family and friends that would love to visit and spend their money in the local area. As far as the dam goes, there is no regulation that it has to be fenced off. We have kids staying with us on a regular basis. their parents watch their own kids. it certainly makes the parents more vigilant. Our insurance is completely covered by hip camps 👍.

Love the hip camp idea… would your property be big enough for a group to camp together.? I often camp with 3 other couples and yours would be a great option for weekends.. will the dam be swimable?
Hi Tracey, we'll have 3 sites. Yes, in summer, you'll be able to swim in the dam
All 3 of those sites should be powered "premium" as 2 look to have no solar available. Then if you expand into one of the paddocks have that as the unpowered section.
Thanks, Rikki. You can't keep banking off one circuit. Otherwise, no one will have power. Most visitors will stay 1 0r 2 nights. 2 powered sites at this stage are sufficient

Good idea for some income etc..however in nsw such an enterprise can incur a tax liability from capital gains that occurs from an increase to property value being proportunately applied against the enterprise..please check with accountant..hope it doesnt apply to you..

You should have your own caravan insurance. Hipcamp covers public liability up to 20 million

Troy and Laura. We tried to set up a Hipcamp like you but Local Government (Moyne Shire) shut us down just as we were ready to start our project. We needed to have a planning permit that could cost us thousands and with no guarantee of success. I want to pass on to you everything we have learned regarding establishing in Victoria. Hi, thanks for reaching out. Yes, that doesn't surprise us at all. We have a couple of small hip camps in our local area already. if the council was to shut it down, our property would be open to friends and family 😉.

@@JourneyUnknown great spot down there the wife and I did a trip towed our van from Sydney out to broken hill down through petersbough into York peninsula from there filled the coast all the way back to Sydney we were away for six weeks .We stayed in a bush camp area near Wonthaggi love the area if we end up down there will definitely give you a call
