    I just came back from Albania and bought Raki.I'm from Bulgaria and we also make Rakia but our is colorful and more flavoured and we consume it with salads not with coffee .
    I find Albania exotic with lot's of orange, lemon, olive and palm 🌴 trees all over the place.

    interesting mentality towards foreigners, my father explained to me when i was little, to create a strong bond with a foreigner in case of war we have somewhere to flee to, an ideology passed to him by his father, my father had three egyptian friends they would visit us once a year and he would visit them once a year as well, my father even went to egypt to attend their weddings, one of them gave my father a jacket made from camel's leather that he treasured

    Albania’s beautiful! I didn’t get to try much cuisine or local drinks as everything went into lockdown a few hours after I entered the country, only a few bakeries and supermarkets were open. I see videos like this and feel like I need to go back!

      Your name suggests you muslim heritage. Can you shed light whether Islamic culture is being revived their or not? Love to hear your thoughts

    • @forzaazzurri1471
      @forzaazzurri1471 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@zebawan5376 @Zeb Awan Hi Zeb, 'Forza Azzurri' is actually an Italian motto in support of their national football team, where 'Azzurri' means 'Light Blues' (which is an Arabic word borrowed by the Italian language). In regards to Islamic culture being revived in Albania, I would not say that is the case, mainly due to Albania being a culturally secular country. This means that Albanians' lifestyle and socials norms are not based on religious values, they are rather based on the Albanian identity itself, which has its own unique ethics and traditional values. On the contrary, Albania is on its way to joining the European Union with 90% of public support. This also shows the natural affinity with the Western and European way of life rather than the Islamic one. Albania is though the most tolerant country in the world, this likely due to the strong Albanian identity which requires you to help someone in need, regardless of faith, race, or nationality. So no religion has been able to, or will ever be able to replace Albanian values and culture. You can see this strong identity survive throughout history, since when the Ottomans invaded for 500 years, or when Albanians migrated to Italy in the 14th century and they still speak today that same language, handed down from one generation to the next. Thank you for the question Zeb, have a great day!

    The grave at the monastery belonged to the woman called Marigo who sew the flag for the Independence Day of Albania in 1912, even though the original Albanian flag existed since 1444 when Skanderbeg flew it for the first time over the castle of Kruja and fought against the Ottomans with that flag, but it wasn't used anymore after the Ottoman invaded Albanian completely until the Independence Day. That mosque used to be a Byzantine church and was converted into a mosque during Suleman the Great era, even though some think it was built as a mosque.

    I could'nt have think that rakı and turkish coffee would compliment each other in Turkey , its almost like a rule that the two of them go as solo. Of course in Turkey most people doesn't drink pure rakı, you fill a quarter of the glass with rakı and the rest with water or with the coffee you have a glass of water with it and usually there is a piece of turkish delight or a piece of chocolate too but combining turkish coffee and rakı is added to my wishlist

    Correction: the little mosque (Muradie mosque) is one of the oldest built in Albania, 1537. It was a new built not like many other mosques across Albania that were built on existing Christian structures.

    I don't know if that rakı was the same as the one we have in Turkey but if it is then good job keeping a straight face after drinking it on its own :). Internet is full of westerners trying Turkish rakı on its own (which hardly anyone does) and hating it afterwards. For those who don't know in Turkey people drink it after diluting it with water and there is always food (different types of mezes) to go with it.

    • @JasonBillamTravel
      @JasonBillamTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I quite like the taste of it tbh. Probably down to the excess of spirits consumed during my time at university in England..

    • @lagjescuni5482

      Serhat Maras.. I don't know what kind of rakia you have in turkey but I don't think it's the same as the Albanian one ours is too strong it is made from so many different fruits and nobody buys raki in supermarkets in Albania every family does it in their home...on the other hand, rakia and alcohol are not used much in Turkey because of religion..I have heard that even in weddings you use tea or non alcoholic drinks like fanta ect is true??

    • @serhatmaras
      @serhatmaras 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lagjescuni5482 depends on the wedding you are going to. if the couple is religious then yea there is no alcohol. Rakı in Turkey is made from grapes and aniseed and some people also do at home and internet says that version is similar to yours. both are very strong and that's why people add water to dilute it. I'm not a fan though. I hate it's smell :)

    • @godogodaj5434

      We drink raki without water. Makes no sense to add water in raki .
