- Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing told parliament on Wednesday (Aug 2) why the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) did not disclose that Transport Minister S Iswaran was arrested on Jul 11 when it issued a press release on Jul 12, saying he is assisting an investigation.
"At that point, CPIB did not state that Minister Iswaran had been arrested, as it had wanted to first establish more facts of the case, including hearing his side of the story," he said.

Handling of case not too bad? Are you kidding? The normal procedure is investigate first, then arrest, then charged within 48 hours. But this case arrest first (without evidence) then investigate, then charged after 4 months not 48 hours. Nothing wrong?

I worked for years with a top international Oil and Gas company. The Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics are very similar. In fact, very senior staff up to International Vice-President level have been dismissed on an impromptu basis. If a VP has to be dismissed, a senior officer from HQ will fly in and the person dismissed is not given any advanced notice and the office is sealed. The company Internet connection for the dismissed person is immediately suspended so that there is no access to Company Internet. And the person being dismissed is escorted out of the company premises.

Btw, all the more former DPM Tharman should not become next president. If the PM doesn't approve CPIB to investigate, the CPIB then have to find president for approval. Therefore president must be purely independent

Why is CCS always the one answering questions. Matters like this is usually being answered by the PM.
Why is it important to reveal if the Minister was arrested? Is it not enough to just let us know that he's under investigation and has been placed on leave? Why is there such a hoo-ha over this?
They only did it because it reached a point that it had to come out. But yes I agree with you, there's no need to jump so quickly to a conclusion since it's still under investigation, as long as the truth comes out eventually in a logical timeline.

Conflating "helping with investigation" and arrested. Wouldn't arrested means there are sufficient evidence? Why would anyone be named arrested when the person is just helping with investigation? So please, the meaning of arrested and helping with investigation are two separate level of seriousness.

I think majority of Singaporeans are not interested in, they are just busy body in order to having something to talk about. In fact, it is puzzling that Mr Iswaran would involve in bribery matter for merely few hundreds thousands, receiving goodies from public business people though not right in his portfolio but it should not be under the category of bribery unless business condition are in special favour to those business people he accepted the goodies, against the system of governing 😅

Unlikely though. For the leadership at CPIB and PAP to make this call to make everything public, they are confident that there is wrongdoing. It would have been a career ending blunder otherwise.
