- After speaking to some Khmer friends they have shown emotion on some recent footage of a COPY of ANGKOR WAT!!! The biggest religious site on the planet and a lifeline for Siem Reap, So here is what I've learnt about it so far and please comment what you think :D

Ancient Khmer temples are in Thailand and Lao during the Khmer Empire. That is why the Thai adopted our Khmer systems to fit their lifestyles.
I believe that some of the information you’ve provided are incorrect. Currently, there are many archeological sights that resembles Angkor Wat in Thailand because it was part of the old Khmer Empire (I’ve been to a couple). The temple in question you’ve mentioned is actually inspired by the one from Korat. The picture you’ve shown in the construction is actually from there. 3 spires. In fact, Cambodian Cultural ministry sent people to this temple 2 years ago to check whether violations have been made with regards to copying. Their findings showed that it was not and confirmed that the design is from the spires from Korat in Thailand. They’ve issued a formal statement as well.
I don’t think the entire complex of Angkor Wat can be copied. It’s gigantic. The temple that youve said are being built is actually going to be a real temple (with monks living there) that is significantly smaller than Angkor Wat. It includes a Hindu inspired Annex pagoda that resembles many temples in India.
I don’t think you can build a new one and expect to have the same magic of history like that. However, having said that; China have already built a replica that resembles Angkor Wat even more so than the one you’ve mentioned. You can look it up. I also believe India is already beginning construction of its own Larger Scale Angkor Wat that will be bigger as well.
To sum up though, I don’t think the Thais are copying Angkor Wat when there are real ancient temples that exists in Thailand that resembles Angkor Wat. Because It was built by the same empire. Long ago before map lines started to be drawn.

@@OutYourShell For the one in China, I’d say that one is a replica. As it was built to show key architectural features that is exactly the design identity of Angkor. Like large faces on all sides of the Pagoda. As per the one in India, I’m not entirely sure because I haven’t seen the design.
The Phu Man Fah temple in Thailand however is more of a modern adaptation. To the untrained eye you’d probably say that it is a copy. But to Architects or Interior architects it’s more of a neo-classical style adaptation. Like combining the classic style but with a minimalist modern flare to it. You can tell from the striped down detail construction of the sand stone. I’ve seen Thai Neo-Classical and Balinese Neo-Classical work often and this is like that. This temple is very similar. So for that I’d say it is more like an inspiration.

Stone inscription at Prasat Hin Phimai in Thailand Notes about King Suriyavarman 2, the king who built Angkor Wat which is Thai- Khom language, Older Thai people and the monks can read this language, but Khmer people cannot. and they erased the name of the Siam Kuk that was on the Angkor Wat wall. Because they did not dare to accept the fact that Prasat Hin Phimai was built before Angkor Wat with the same art and was the prototype of Angkor Wat.
Angkor Wat is located in Siem Rat (Siem Reap) the old name of that land and it's mean to "The land of Siam", Siam is the old name of Thailand. And Thai people called it "Nakorn Wat Nakorn Thom or Angkor-Thom ".
At France 's Museum, There is a replica of Angkor Wat located. And there is a label that says "Belong to Siam".

@@OutYourShellThais, they did not learn history from school. They learn from google, so they always tell anyone who speaks badly about their country. Thailand uses a lot of Cambodian script. But they say it is their ancestral script.

I think it is legitimate for local people to build architecture that existed locally in the past. And it is a religious work. They do not claim to own Angkor Wat. which even though in the past they were the owners of Angkor Wat The term plagiarism should be applied to countries that do not have adjacent territories. It was the Western colonies that separated them. Without the Western colonial era, they would be the same country today.

As an Indian traveler from Hyderabad, I visited Cambodia twice in 1984 and 2016. The stone temple of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap was extremely amazing. I also visited Angkor Wat replica in Danang, Vietnam. But the most stunning replica of Angkor Wat can be found in Nanning China. King Suryavaraman II who built Angkor Wat was by descent related to the Chola dynasty who ruled from present day Tamil Nadu, southern India. My eyes in tear to see our ancient Hindu temple in Southeast Asia. My thanks go to the Cambodian government who help preserve Indian civilization.

Cambodia is not concerned about tourists skipping Cambodia and visiting other destinations, like LEGO Land in Thailand (20+ years to complete). The decision is made by the tourists, not by social media promotion. Just so you know, Sokha Enterprise is the one in charge of the fee for Angkor Wat, not the people of Cambodia.

Dare i say, the new Temple may be for a lot of Chinese and Indian tourists, it will have all the Mod-Cons etc to keep the numbers flowing. Cambodia needs to spend some money on Infrastructure without going into too much debt, Jobs for Locals must be paramount rather than the "Belted Road" other countries are embracing. It will take longer but the Money remains in the country/community. Win-Win.
sCambodia and Claimbodia should focus on Indian Tourists. Because Ankhor is the biggest Hindu Shrine outside India. This is the biggest and strongest link. Indian tourists have high potential of spendind, don't rely on only chinese tourist.
Cambodians also built new temples with Siamese style. Modern-day Cambodian learn Pali via Thai resources. They leant Thai dances from Thai teachers, but when they went back to Cambodia they called it Apsara dance.

@@Khmerarticle According to George Groslier’s book, there is only Apsara dancers' drawing. There were no Apsara dancers in Cambodia at all until Bhupa Dhevi princess got a role in French movie in 1950-60. That's when first Apsara costumes were created.

Keep in mind that Thailand also stole a large part of the land from Cambodia.

and we call those castle "Khom" style (We never called THAI style), as "Khom"
refers to people who live along the Chao Phraya River. (A river in the middle of Thailand) and use the Khmer language to communicate.
They in the past were the ones who spread the culture, but now they will claim every stone castle as their own,

Well, each person wrote their own history. Even the maps of the land were competing with each other and overlapping each other. Like wise, before the word " Khmer or cambodia" we used to be Funan then janla (ចេនឡា) and so on . But if you ask for cambodian king before the rest of the periods it's "King vakreage" ព្រះបាទវៈរាជ្យ, he was born in 214 till 174 b.c.
Khmer people was under the dark age (stop building stone temples/ kings didn't use Varman in their names) for about 400 years. France records showed Khmer people and monks had no memories of Angkor Wat. But when Cambodia was under France's rule, France helped them claim Siamese culture claiming that Siam kept Angkoriane cultures for them, which is NOT. Khmer kingdom was not the only kingdom Siam had been in contact with. Cultures are part of our every day lives, how come you had no memories about it?
It's actually complex than you think. After the evacuation from Siem reap in 1421 many cambodians went to aokdong which is present day Phonm penh. The vast majority of the citizens are a mixer of Thai and Cambodian people because Siem used to take almost all of cambodians to their coutry after they won the war in Angkor period but later a new monarch of cambodia took his own citizens back but actually the desandant of the people who were living in Siem. The queation is " why aren''t any of cambodians know angkor wat?" The answer is: it was left oblivious, many cambodians have to evacuate to a new area. Many khmers who know about Angkor wat are either dead due to war or in Siem. So many desandants are left oblivious. Another question" they know about this temple when the France discover them" ok let me guess this straight, not knowing what is your temple is a contradiction against cambodians? What about the pyramid? The fact that european archaeologist discovered alot of things from the pryramid than its people does that mean they are imposter to their country? Egyptians know alot about their Pyramid when europeans are the one to discover them just like Cambodians. If a country's arts, culture and economy are backward, it will indicate the current backward state as an indicator. Unfortunately, Thailand has been wanting Angkor Wat, Preak Vihear ( another Khmer large temple) and other Khmer temples for a long time.

I am Khmer from Battambang, and I live in the United States. I believe that Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia should be united and stop looking at each other so negatively because of nationalism/patriotism. We share the same blood, beliefs, and cultures. The only major difference is that we speak different variations of languages and dialects due to modern boundaries that separate our countries and geopolitics, and because of that, there are bound to be variations/influences/changes and new ideas over time from external factors/forces and human ingenuity. Many people in Northeastern Thailand speak or used to speak the same Khmer language as the people in Cambodia and have relatives on both sides, but some will lose their Khmer language and identity more and more over time because the Thai language is the predominant and national language of Thailand today. We also have a lot of Khmer in Southern Vietnam, known as Khmer Krom, that Vietnam took over their land and separated them from Cambodia today. Khmer Krom is more resistant to the Vietnamese because we don't share their culture and values. Khmer Krom tries hard to maintain their identity/culture and a connection to their brothers/sisters in Cambodia. We should look at our three countries (Lao/Cambodia/Thailand), and maybe the Burmese, too, as one family/country within the greater ASEAN family. Our three countries are also greatly influenced economically by the Chinese or Chinese descendants who have assimilated into our societies today. We shared the same ancestors, and there is no one predominant race (Khmer or Thai ) or who should be better than whom. We're of the same human race from the same geographic location with a strong belief in Buddhism, and we can be kind and respectful to each other.
We probably got divided because of power struggles and other factors, and to some extent, it's understandable that we all look to claim our identity because modern boundaries divide us into separate countries. But once upon a time, we're all brothers and sisters, just like Mainland China and Taiwan today, where Taiwan is looking to distinguish itself from Mainland China. Currently, Cambodia is recovering from a long civil due to internal/external and communisms influences, just like Lao and Vietnam. We're at peace now; development is slowly taking place, and the people are rediscovering themselves. Given time and with no more war, Cambodia will be able to catch up with the rest of Southeast Asia, just like in the 60s, the previous golden era for Cambodia. Burmese, Cambodia, Lao, and Thailand share and cherish the same beliefs and culture, and there's no need to attack one another.
the thai people originated in south east china and migrated into the khmer empire and adopted the customs and culture. look up the tai kra dai languages.
Cambodians often accuse Thailand of being Chinese immigrants who stole Khmer culture. But everything is the opposite. Research on Thai people's DNA in MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND EVOLUTION (University of Oxford) indicates that the majority of central and southern Thais are of Mon descent. (The oldest ancient Mon grave in Mae Hong Sorn is 13000 years old). The northern region of Thailand, They have DNA similar to Tai people from Sipsongpanna. Southern china. As for Isaan people, their DNA is mixed between the Mon-Khmer speaking and the DNA of Tai people in Sipsongpanna. (Ancient graves of the Tai people in Suphanburi are 4000 years old.) Note: Sipsongbanna used to be part of Thailand before being divided into China. As for the Khmer or Cambodian people who claim to be the oldest But the DNA did not match the ancient graves in both Thailand and Cambodia, but the Cambodians had DNA that matched the Mentawai tribe. Thais have copied and normalized Khmer temples, traditional dances, traditional clothing and other Khmer cultural symbols as their own. In their few years, Thais generally have developed hatred toward the Cambodian people but loved the culture and history of the Khmers.
Shame that people all over the world have become so narrow minded with pride and ego.

All dance troops and teachers were imported from Siam, until the French took over then it began to translate the songs and literature into Khmer language.

Many Khmer temples in former Khmer land so called thailand built by Khmers Cambodian ancestors. Angkor is the largest religious temple , 8th wonder of the world. The one and only very famous as it is an architect masterpiece. I see that a lot thais are jealous of Angkor Wat because it is very famous. They know Cambodian pride ourselves with Angkor Wat, we have it on our flag. So they are very disrespectful to copy it. This is just causing more drama between the two countries. Instead of creating something unique, they copy Cambodia. If their sole purpose is to take tourism away from Cambodia well that's just lame, disgusting and pathetic in my opinion
