I am truly impressed by the thought and passion that you put into this video. It is easy to make "pretty vlogs" about relationships and scams and "province girls". But to sit down and speak honestly about cultural, educational and political issues is admirable. From now on, I will look at your videos in a different light, Thank you for this.

You truly are an asset to your country. Voices like yours are the beginning of change. I've yet to visit the Philippines but already I understand the inherent wealth in the resources and culture of the Philippines. So many of the issues surrounding the unequal distribution of the economic resources seem to have simple solutions but, just like social and economic issues everywhere, including here in the US, there are so many self-interested parties maintaining the status quo and blocking the instruments of change.
Education is the beginning and, along with a stable standard of living, that is to say not great wealth but a standard that simply alleviates constant struggle, will always lead to positive change for the many.
You are the kind of person whom I could talk with for hours on end about change and about justice. I'll be content to listen. In the meantime, it's good to know there are thoughtful people everywhere, especially as so many of my fellow Americans have abandoned reason in favor of fear based idolatry. Most of us here take so much for granted.
Anyhow, there is so much to say but this is your channel and I just wanted to chime in.
Thank you for being an instrument of change.
I look forward to traveling to the Philippines and enjoying the greatest of your resources, the people and the land.

@@Rubeauti I am also a viewer that became scared for you, seeing you starting to make political videos. I would actually recommend *against* making such videos, since I think you will anyway be very disappointed by how little good they do. It is *very* difficult to get people to elect good leaders in any country. Honest political candidates are always at a great disadvantage, since they cannot promise as much as the ones who lie (except in some cases, where they are honest but foolish, and think they can fix things easily, believing various mistaken things about how e.g. economics works). It's also true that many who enter politics with good intentions become corrupt once they get good opportunities for it. The alternative to becoming a friend to the other politicians who are already corrupt, is usually just to lose the next election and lose all power.
I think the sad truth is, that one should not become very interested in politics, before one is so rich that there is not much danger in taking up such a dangerous and very difficult fight. To everyone who wants to help others, I would recommend to first focus on making money, and help other people with the money. (And then maybe get active in politics if one gets rich enough.)

Well said! I'm impressed with your penetrating analysis of the socioeconomic disparities between not only the third world and developed countries but also between the people in the Philippines. The history of the world and probably the future as well is, as you noted of your countrymen and women, "the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer". It breaks my heart to see families struggling to take care of their children, and especially single mothers working themselves into sickness to feed their children and provide decent medical care and education. I'm helping my Fiancee with her 6 children and her sister's 3 children and do not regret a penny of it. The karma is only good. In the Philippines the poor get poorer because of their choices. Your fiancee with her 6 children made some poor choices unless she is a widow. The Philippines actually has no barriers to the poor to become wealthy. If one chooses to learn, work and refrain from sex until marriage, God will bless them. If they choose to learn free market ideas, they can become quite wealthy. There are so many opportunities in the Philippines to make wealth, it is only the leftist gov that destroys opportunities. It does so often. Price controls on rice is one glaring example. The Filipino gov would rather pay an American rice farmer millions of dollars than to allow a Filipino rice farmer make a decent profit. It is hard to compete when the gov stifles your business. Yet, there are many business opportunities for the wise Filipino.

From what i have seen in the philipinnes beeing only a 3 times visitor, is the lack of efficiency and will to shorten processes. This is usually interpreted as talking on a high horse, but let me please share my thoughts.
1.) When i watched construction workers, they didnt even put the cement out of the bags, they used the bags itself to build a wall, or any kind of structure, not knowing that the dust untouched by water in the bag wont give any stability
2.) When i watched grocery store workers, waiting for my turn in the cashier line, it took us 40 minutes to finally leave the store, while having only 10 people before us. In germany it takes 5 minutes
Behind the meat tables, their were 5 people working, in germany 1-2 workers does the same.
This gives me a feeling that the philippinnes maybe dont want to work efficiently.
This system gives everyone a job with very low salary instead of letting 60% of the population beeing unemployed, which would result in an disaster.
First step for the philippinnes to grow as a nation is nationwide teachings and training about how to use and buy condomns and pills, making it mandatory to teach sexual education, which would result in less kids beeing born.
Second step would be devolping an retirment pay system, where filipinos are forced to pay 20% of their income as tax for their retirement ages, which would result it not making kids only to be taken care of when ur old yourself.
Third step is banning all Jeepneys, or any other relatable small vehicle transport systems, and switch them into busses. Also train stations for bigger islands. Which would result in less traffic jams, people actually beeing able to commute in shorter time, making it easier for people to work from further away.
Those are simple steps to actually help an enviroment to grow, but its hard to actually change yourself, that why people vote bad people all over again.
Everyone wants change, but dont want to change themselves.

The one thing I’ve noticed since I moved here, most Filipinos have the attitude of “why bother, it’s always been this way, it won’t do any good to complain”. This is so wrong. Be educated, stand up for what is right, make change happen. A missionary gave a US high school exam to 20 Philippine college graduates, they all failed. Education is the key to start. 9:30 You are so right. Children do not owe their parents anything. It was not the children's choice to come into this world. My parents gave me everything they could (education, civilized living conditions). I give my daughters the best education I can afford and I will expect nothing in return from them but respect. In my country Romania, parents do not want to be an anchor hanging around the children's neck. Parents are proud if their children reach higher in the social hierarchy than their parents were. Parents help their children financially (if they can) even when the children have a salary or are married (if the parents are downsizing the apartment). But I see that in the Philippines parents are a burden to their children like some leeches. That mentality must be changed and then parents will no longer pump up the number of children when they realize that they as parents must help their children and not the other way around

The leftists would rather pay an American rice farmer millions of dollars to invest in new equipment to grow rice and pay the transport fees to bring that rice thousands of miles across the ocean than to allow a Filipino to make a decent profit. That's absurd. Once that money leaves the Philippines it benefits the people of Thailand, Vietnam and the USA. If the gov let the Filipino charge a fair price, the money would stay in the Philippines where it would add to the economy creating jobs.
Leftists destroy everything they touch eventually. The Philippines has great wealth but after Marcos, the leftists have squandered it and lied about Marcos. He brought wealth to the Philippines, he did not take any.

I wish someone would go into A single barangay And start there and educate everybody in that 1 Area and then expand out and and as that 1 area gets college degrees have them responsible for teaching their area coming up coming up again plus all the other areas areas that need the education and I know education is severely needed in the Philippines

A good practice is to compare the Philippines with where it was 10 years ago and not the other countries.

I think one of the biggest problem Philippine face is lot of very young people have baby when they are very young, in this case they do not have opportunity to complete their education and they do not have enough economic support to arise their children, therefore they do not have chance to improve their economic status. In order for the country to improve economic, most of the family need to do better at the same time.

    Beautiful Rubi,
Another great video. Besides your physical beauty, you are intelligent and very well spoken. We viewers can feel your genuine frustration that's born from your empathy and care for your people and country.
I don't want to comment on the politics too much, I am not Philippino, it is not my place. In this video you focus on the broader issues and that is very important but many of these issue you may not be able to affect, by yourself, in the position that you are in at this time (who knows about your future) but what I would encourage you to do is to look at one, two or three Philippinos who are somehow in your life, friends, family, people standing right next to you now, in your space, and use your intelligence to educate them and encourage them to make a few better decisions in their lives, even if it's just very small things and when you meet friends of similar intelligence as you, encourage them to do the same. Just some advise and coaching for one fellow Philippino who has the awesome fortune to personally know you.
Good luck, your heart is in the right place and we all look forward to a next video of yours.

Because other countries want investment from foreign capital. The Philippines thinks capitalism is evil because it creates well paid free thinking peasant classes that quickly dominate the govt with logical, intelligent laws. Can't have that. To hard to control. Better if they keep believing that free stuff is better. Socialism not capitalism.

The Philippines based on my knowledge was one of the most wealthy countries in Asia not to far in the past. The next problem there is brought on by the top 3% who keep the rest down. The next problem is the constant inbreeding within the nation. Then there is the macho problem where men seem to be able to do as they wish to women and seem to get away with it. If the Philippines would have remained a territory of the USA the corruption would have been reduced big time and lives would be better. I still love the nation and its people

The Philippines 🇵🇭 needs to find local problems which need to be resolved and develop the solutions through education. The race to the moon focused the USA. Education is the key to growth. The ability to think critically and challenge the status quo only happens with a well educated populace. Unfortunately, there are growing pains in change but unless people are willing to suffer through changes there will be little to no growth. I actually thought that with the downfall of Marcos and the new government under Aquino that the Philippines would have come a lot farther than it has to date. Most governments of third world /developing countries would prefer their general population to remain uneducated and no birth control whatsoever. This vlog is one of the most sincere and honest vlogs I have seen in a very long time. I hope you are not putting yourself in a dangerous position politically, socially and physically. Take care.

I'm an Economist. You are spot on as I see it. Of course, to be fair, I've never set foot in the country. However, I probably now never will. Please don't get me wrong, I am not entitled - its not my country so my opinion means nothing. But, Development Economics is my area of concentration. I fell in love with the people and culture from what I have seen online, and I was doing substantial research. I wanted to come to the Philippines and start firms that paid a bit above average and were substantially employee-vested, with a primary goal to create jobs and spending which started to create the growth Filipinos deserve. But, sadly, first I see a rising anti-foreigner sentiment (which, given how a lot of Sexpats have acted, and given the ridiculously high unemployment/underemployment situation this isn't surprising, just sad) -- I wouldn't even be able to hire outsiders for certain positions if I had the need. Second, let's be honest, it becomes cost prohibitive -- the amount of bribing I would have to do in order to enter any substantive industry and scale is exorbitant. That even assumes the bribes are honored, I have no recourse if they are not. And last, is a simple legal bias. Even if I were to hypothetically marry a local and become a full citizen -- courts just don't rule in foreign favor. Which means, its really easy to make someone jealous or mad (after all, business IS about competition and winning and losing). All that person has to do, for example, is cry rape against me. Then, even if I'm innocent and can prove it, I end up locked up in a horrid prison for years awaiting trial, and most likely end up dying of disease before release. So, nobody outside with actual altruistic motives can truly help, and we end up shifting focus elsewhere.

hi, rubeauti i was actually looking for a video like this. i had 2 uncles in the phillipines and they both have passed away now. i was in manila when i was 9 years old and the year was about 1978. i didn't quite understand what poverty was but, was amazed at how many poor people i saw in the country. i could not understand why so, many poor people could not get out of the situation that they are in. its like the poor always seem to stay poor there and yes the country is like a baby making factory. both my uncles were businessmen and could make a decent living. i still remember seeing a mother with her baby leaned up against our car with a baby in here arms begging for money. was shocked to see this because this sort of thing did not happen in my country.

Thank you for sharing! The circle of poverty in family or even country can't be stopped without ceasless effort. I believe you need a strong leader, but if you don't have them, you need to make them. I was raised in S.Korea in 1970-1990s. We were poor like anybody else. We were taught that if we want to be rich, we should throw away old paradigm, which is naive and complacent one. We had a strong leader, President Jung-Hee Park. He was a hero for our country. His decision to revive the dying economy was accurate and sincere. People admired him and followed his leadership. I think you need a great leader who can design the plan and execute the plan with the people of the nation.
