    This is an amazing video not just about steam locomotives but life in the Chinese rust belt. Thanks for sharing!

    I lived in Jixi for about 6 months out of the five years I spent in China. I lived with a Chinese guy who worked for this railroad. This video is the most accurate depiction I have ever seen. I got home sick wanting to go back. btw...no more steam in Jixi, its all diesel or electric now. Jixi means "chicken west" named for the nearby mountains. Some of the best years of my life were spent in China. Americans cannot understand the breath and the depth of the Chinese civilization because we are simply incapable of thinking in such large and very different terms .
    Life in Jixi is hard - even by Chinese standards. In the winter it can get to -30 degrees F. Seeing Chinese people survive and thrive in such a inhospitable place gave me a deep respect for the Chinese people. btw .... nearby this junction is the remains of a Japanese pill-box which survives and oversees a large bridge. the Japanese occupied China for 15 years.

    我出生的城市,虽然只生活了10年,但是离开快20年后再看到这个视频,心中不禁感慨万千,这20年是经济飞速发展的20年,但我的故乡似乎跟这发展的大潮没有丝毫的关系,净是一副破败的样子。

    I hope I don't sound ignorant, I wish not to be, but seeing a foreign country like this with such an environment, and as a train enthusiast seeing an operational steam locomotive, just the atmosphere, is really something humbly magical

    Absolutely spectacular footage of life in China with these magnificent steam locomotives. I travelled through China in the late autumn of 1985 and I can therefore relate to the weather conditions and what you have filmed. I wish I had known about this awesome train action though but your excellent videos what I missed and you have certainly left something for posterity. Well done! Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia

    La filmación y el audio son excelentes. Sin menoscabar la producción fílmica, las imágenes me traen viejos recuerdos de cuando era niño, y miraba a las locomotoras a vapor pasar tirando deslucidos carros de carga, dejando en el aire los olores a carbón koke quemado y a fierro oxidado. Todavía me producen una sensación deprimente.

    What is it with these Chinese Steam Locomotives using air horns and not what they were built with: the steam chime whistles they're not using? Once in a while they seem to do so, but all the time they just don't. Is it some law or something behind it?

    • @williamou417
      @williamou417 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason that all steam locomotives in China are using air horns is because it can make loud sounds to warn the people from far distance to get their attention. It can warn people for safety. They are still using the whistles for regular time. Plus, their air horns are required by the law

    One thing I can't come to understand is why Chinese RR do not use sand blowers on their locomotives. On many videos I noticed 8- and 10- traction wheels slip is very common. The worst side of it is that when a locomotive slips, it polishes the rails, which thus become more slippery, making it easier for the next trains to slip, thus more polishing the rails, making it easier... Especially on rainy days with the oil and the sludge on the rails! Furthermore, the more a locomotive slips, the more its wheels are polished to a smooth, slippery finish. And I don't think that slippery wheels on slippery tracks add up to good traction! Not to mention the added costs of locomotive and track maintenance...
    Yet, sand is not costly!
