    is there a tutorial to change the Yamaha Virago xv 750 shaft into a chain

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. I have seen people asking about it, but haven't heard anyone actually doing it. I like the shaft drive so I won't be making video about that topic, sorry...

      It is impossible to do without an external transfer case. Due to the shaft drive the output of the engine rotates in the opposite direction. If you eg. weld a sprocket onto the output shaft you'll eng up with 5 reverse gears.
      The only (not too sensible) solution would be using an external transfer case/gearbox with a shaft input on the left and a sprocket output on the right but that is waaaay too much complication.

      @@davidbalogh3845 totally agree way to complicated and unnecessary. Speaking of unnecessary...I've seen someone converting a 535 into a air sprung rear suspension in the Facebook group...first I've ever seen, cool😃😎

    Excellent Video as per usual Mate, Where did you get those Rocker Shafts from for £12 each & did you get new Rockers at any point & if so, How much?

      Thank you, your comments are always appreciated 👍I was quite lucky because someone sold old new stock on eBay so I grabbed them straight away. Keep your eyes on ebay, sometimes people don't know how rare these things become, and just sell stuff cheap.. 😉I didn't change the rockers themselves because they were fine, I checked the diameter with a bore micrometer and it was bang on. I suspected it that the way they designed it is to wear out the shafts instead of the rockers, which makes sense... Hope this helps

      @@MidlandCruiser Ok, Thank you, could you tell me if all 4 rocker shafts are identical?, because I can only find one part no: 4x71215601 :)

      @@apophusra59 20 euros brand new from parts suppliers (like CMSNL) and 4 pcs, identical ones.
      There is the older 4X7-12156-01 and the newer updated part 4X7-12156-02.

      @@MidlandCruiser Thank you mate, that's where I will get mine, I just need to source some good used rockers to put on the new shafts, Only doing this because the previous owner had run the bike for about 3000'ish miles with the oil filter fitted the wrong way round (with the hole on the inside of the engine) :( and I already have a pair of pretty good second hand cams to finish off with, just as long as they are the right ones, they were marked xv750 xv1100 & I forgot to compare them when I had the cams out to upgrade the cam bearings:/

    For what you change it ?

    • @MidlandCruiser
      @MidlandCruiser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. I changed them because when I had the head off the bike and measured it, 2 of them were under the bottom tolerance, and had a groove dug into it due to something oiling related (not sure what caused it, could be wrong oil or lack of pressure, which can happen if you install the filter the wrong way).
      Anyway 2 of them needed changing so I decided to swap all 4 of them out... Why not while I'm there 😉 also the worn ones caused inconsistent valve clearance due to to much movement of rocker... Hope this clears it up 👍

      You guessed it right.. Next video coming will be the valve clearance... Only on the front cylinder because it is nearly impossible to record it on the rear.. 👍
