Boichi’s art is incredible I’m glad that you analyzed it.
I recently got into Dr. Stone after it ended and have loved every chapter. From the way he designs characters to the composition of certain scenes, he really is a master of manga art. Also, I feel like you explained things more in-depth when it came to certain tips, which was nice!

Boichi's spreads are incredible, god tier, and I'd say the 2nd best. Kentaro Miura being the 1st. Not just because of Berserk, but also because of Gigantomaxia. The sheer scope of those double page spreads is absolutely astounding while still showing the details of the absolutely massive characters. That said, Boichi is phenomenal and this is a great breakdown of his work. Especially the One Piece chapter. Nicely done!

Said it before and I'll say it again: Somebody NEEDS to make a anime adaptation of Sun Ken Rock! If it turns out anything as Doctor Stone did, I can't imagine what it would be like as an animation.
@Lebundon sure and shouldn't stop at Sun Ken Rock, the industry needs it sometimes.
they wouldnt be able to animate it well because the manga is so detailed... a mediocre sun ken rock anime with mediocre animation will not be good
His art is amazing, and i especially love his depiction of muscular anatomy as you pointed out - however, regarding double page spreads i would say Miura's Berserk can rival them for sure. But they are absolutely elite definitely.
Both sell the impact of the weight behind it. Miura when guts swings the dragon slayer and Boichi having his very leaned out characters punch. We sense the density within the images as both have equivalency being hit with something hard as metal. Largely using thatching techniques.

What I noticed is Boichi is already a master when he started making mangas but Miura improved along the way.
honestly the manga industry equalizes with these two, it's not everyone but...
It's a lot of people, even Naruto has some envying perspective angles, because the manga focused on this cinematic portrayal with a lot of emphasis in contrast to the Comics that were engaging in these questions, examples I would stay until tomorrow, but I would summarize two guys Katsuhiro Otomo and the Toshio Sako that in my head are the ones that are exploding my head.
Boichi is definitely like a Top 3 manga artist for me, but Yusuke murata just has better 2page spreads in my opinion

in terms of truly celestial quality spreads, I think the only other artist of note to contend here is the Late Kentaro Miura, especially around the mid to late work on Berserk where the spreads become a horrifically beautiful and entrancing phantasmagoria of surrealism, horror, detail, and nuance that perfectly encapsulates the legends life's work, fitting the narrative to a T.
I don't think it's a two-person question.
4:44 for me one guy that can do better spread pages is Shinichi Sakamoto, I just love the guy. Him and Boichi are mine main inspirations as an artist.
I would also say “Oh! Great” as one of the best artist in the industry
And they have so much in common, but so much different.
@@giulyanoviniciussanssilva2947 Yes, they are my top 2 mangakas. But I believe the difference between them is that Boichi realism is brute, like muscle flexing and face expression and in a way a "dark realism* while Sakamoto has a "idealistic realism" in a way that it reminds me of old paintings and because most of his characters are skinny this becomes even more noticeable and his face expression and more tender and delicate.
Yuusuke Nomura (Artist of Blue Lock) has some excellent double spreads, when I first saw it I was damn impressed but later on it became so repetitive like 3 spreads in a single chapter and 2 in the next, it just continously lost it's special feeling
This analysis is so good that it actually made me realize Boichi is the artist I really need to study. He does everything that I want to learn to perfection. I don’t think I ever would’ve realized that if I hadn’t watched your video, man.

Great video! I love how detailed his work is, and the fact that he includes a lot of facial features which are, as you mentioned, typically omitted in most manga and anime

I love boichi workand he probably is my favorite artist, but I do have a problem with his characters. Alot of them seem very similar and can blend into each other. Especially the females, they seem to be in a different style than the realistic style of some other character and they all seem to be the same character with reskins.

Great artist analysis.
Yes boichi uses value to give boybandish characters in the mature mangas, a more lean/cut body weight with some vascularity. That contrasts characters inside his work that bulk up in mass and volume which the anatomy takes into account how the actions play out.
Cinematic Light, shadow and angles. I see cues from Akira Kurosawa, Spaghetti & American Westerns. All exude modern masculine aesthetics prior to the body build mass direction. Kurosawa angles incorporates natural elements while the Westerns establishes the familiar intense close ups and wides to create adrenaline without much action. Where our minds are subconsciously registering good guys and bad guys or key emotions in gritty settings & themes.
All of this Boichi emulates mostly through value & thatching, all the more makes it astounding.
For me it emulates the current comics, from the shadows to the veins and anatomy definitions, to summarize the examples I use Lee Bermejo, but Boichi brings more gestures on its pages compared to the Comics.
I would say Kentaro Miura is still the king of spread page & mad genius in paneling. I would argue that his spread pages arts can be easily add into the art museum.
Its not just the art by Boichi, but the story as well. Origin was my all-time fave.
I feel the comparison with One Piece showcases how cluttered and noisy Boichi's manga can look, One Piece is easy to read and clear while Boichi has so much going on that you have to pause.
This is exactly what I was thinking and like it's not bad, the art is amazing, but it sometimes feels cluttered, probably because of too much detail.
Tsutomu Niihei's work is also pretty good if not as detailed, his architecture is damn good 👌

There was always something that captivated me about his art style very distinct. I never liked hyper anime art style I respect all art styles but there’s something so striking about sun ken rock action scenes the blood the vein’s the abs the gang suits silhouettes beautiful. I love his eyes as well
Boichi started working in digital format in 2021 when covid 19. Sun KEn Rock and almost half Dr. Stone was in traditional
I saw the thumbnail of this video, and I was certain that it was the artist behind Dr. Stone. Until about 1:30 into the video, I thought I had been mistaken. Great arkwork, great video.
Berserk got the best 2 page spreads in my opinion.but boichi got some great ones aswell

An absolute favorite of mine as far as artists go. I adore the hatching and detailed strokes of hair. I haven't read Dr. Stone but Sun-Ken Rock was an favorite of mine back in the day and I was afraid he was over looked and forgotten about untill I saw the announcement of Dr Stone and I instantly recognized his penmanship. Just found your channel btw, great stuff dude 👍

Holy shit, I never expected to be recommended a video about Boichi and Sun-Ken-Rock in the thumbnail.
One of the best highlights reading SKR as it was coming out was when translators added in author notes, when Boichi explained different things he did to improve his artwork.
The boyz getting baseball bats and smashing beer cans taking photos, you know that they just wanted the company to pay for their booze.
Normally, I lean towards artwork that’s like Dorehedoro. But man SKR was something else, the charcoal art to him finding a great balance between realism and exaggeration( I’m not sure what they actual name for this would be, but when boobies are bigger than heads, or dudes with just 8 packs giant arms but somehow miss leg day)
Even the Vietnamese character’s dialogue all being in katakana and broken Japanese. It really did match how a SEA person trying to speak Japanese would structure their sentences.
The building scenes too were outright amazing.

Just imagine him doing every Gut's fight scene in Berserk, bodies flying, blood splattering and his huge sword right up in the reader's face.

I read Sun Ken Rock and LOVED it, never went back! Sun Ken Rock needs an anime adaption like PLEASE! Along with Berserk and Vagabond - but they need to be done properly!

god its been 5 and half years since i read this chapter and is still one of the best manga i have ever read next to berserk
Boichi's godlike arts also probably why we still don't get a proper Sun Ken Rock or Origin or Wallman anime so far. SKR alone is easily one of the best action mafia/gang crime manga of all time, added with a whole Boichi universe with Origin & Wallman.
the way he draws muscles reminds me of how david finch and a lot of comic book artists draw comics

Tatsuki Fujimoto did my favorite spread I've ever seen in his one shot "Look Back" (I've read Sun Ken Rock).

He also gets thise angles by taking pictures of himself or assistants in those poses and traces the proportions, then he changes what he needs to be changed and adds details. Its a great process and shows how to work smart. Remember, he only traces the pose. Nothing else. So those, "dont trace" people dont have to worry about "cheating"
Manga artists are notorious for blatantly tracing other stuff such as vehicles, buildings, and animals but I can see the authenticity in Boichis's case
@@JF80001 Hell yeah. You should. That stuff is annoying and we got deadlines. Scott pilgrim has a free comic when an actual photo in the background instead of a drawing. The caption on the bottom of the page said, "im not getting paid for this so Im not drawing all that."

what if your phone can detect the facial features of your character/drawing, and you can use the aging feature like the ones on tiktok to see how they would look like at a certain age.
I've read Dead man Wonderland and Smokin Parade. They've got a pretty cool art style and are illustrated by Jinsei Kataoka.
His art is one of a kind and makes me wanna survive in the wild
His musclework kinda reminds me of Jim Lee's stuff. Boichi is definitely a standout amongst the typical anime art style.

Imo the only other Mangaka artist that opposes or exceeds Boichi for 2 page shots is Kentaro Miura with Berserk. But Boichi is probably the Best Manwa artist for Male subjects in young adult novels we have in history of manwa
