  • Hello TH-camrs! Heading into the flat water season now with my first side by side regatta since Australia in January! Looking forward to getting out there and getting some good racing in. For today I managed the last longer piece before the racing itself. Weather was nice and the water was flat but I think it might be a little different at the weekend! I kept in the full 1000m piece and showed of the split times as I don not believe I have done that before in any video! I hope you enjoy!

    Really interesting to see your thoughts on splits and rates that suit you when training plus see your splits from a 1K piece as we’re so used to over the years seeing you erg numbers but great to see what is happening on a very still piece of water, little stream and breeze (a far cry from some of the recent coastal conditions 😆).
    Again - hope the results go well at the MET and the HRR opportunity arises again (should be an interesting regatta this year at Henley with Mr Ziedler focused on Paris) 😎

    genuine question...not a dig or a comment...but if keeping the blade feathered practically to the catch ( as you do here ) helps with balance ( as it surely does ) then why do I keep getting told to square over my knees ( which just makes the whole exercise harder as my square blades repeatedly clip off the water as I come to the catch and don't seem to aid balance in any way ) ?

    • @skude3
      @skude3 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Because it’s a que and you likely don’t have a quick catch/row it in or something else.
      But tbh you should ask your coach, it’s a good question

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Squaring over knees seems a bit early but squaring earlier than I do,maybe by the feet, generally means that you’re set up for the catch and increases likelihood of getting it right.

    Nice prep piece! An observation; your blade depth on that piece was pretty deep. You may be able to gain a little speed with less oar shaft in the water, less likely for a bad stroke if the conditions are rough, too. Good luck at the regatta, you'll definitely have fun!

    LOL "inverted commas"
    instead of "air quotes"
    ... 5 syllables over 2...
    is there a reason or
    just a britishism?
