    Great topic Sven! This much is all but certain... The stocks of nearly all businesses will get hurt in the next 'market crash' to some degree. Here's the good news... If your portfolio is filled with stocks of companies that have long term competitive advantages that are protected, they'll likely come out the other end of the crash with an even stronger competitive position than pre-crash. Sounds easy enough, yet few understand this and even fewer will take advantage of it. Happy investing!

    Looking forward. Peter Lynch sums up investing so well and if we don't know why you own shares of businesses then we probably shouldn't own them at all. It's a wonderful feeling when you own shares and want them to go down in price so you can buy more though.

    Yes, I know...Looking at me, it’s difficult to understand, when I have the good looks and dance skills of a more butch Ryan Gosling, but, I’m actually old enough to have lived (and invested) through all of the crashes mentioned in this video.
    What did I learn? Short term they hurt, long term they made little difference. Just keep plugging away. I’m go to keep hanging onto the shares in that beta- max video company though, you never know.

    I watch videos where the presenter says stuff like "when the stock market crashes people are going to lose their savings" and my reaction is always only if they sell off when it's low. However stock market crashes can be phenomenal buying opportunities the only problem is if you are 100% invested you don't have the money to buy and you don't wanna sell your stock while it's low. So my question is how do you prepare for buying opportunities? You have to have some funds which are easily available to purchase during these downturn's?
    So do you maintain a cash position? Do you use low volatility investments? Do you just re-balance?

    • @Value-Investing
      @Value-Investing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good question, but you never know how a crash will look like - plus there are always many small crashes to take advantage of. I always keep some cash, then there are dividends, they if something becomes really that much better you might sell something else, plus there is margin if possible when it all is a bargain.

    • @Value-Investing
      @Value-Investing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      plus, most people invest on a monthly basis, so make sure to put that money into businesses when there is a crash!

    Hi Doctor Carlin, huge fan of your work. I think there's one topic worth covering that will generate large amount of views for your channel. Lately, a lot of high dividend stocks are crashing and lagging tech stocks, while their yields remain low at these lofty levels. I am a growth stock investor and I have done extremely well, but I need to start diversifying into some dividend stocks at favorable levels. Trust me, this topic will generate a lot of views for you.

  • @Bassfishing221
    @Bassfishing221 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also just curious, with today’s tech with halting stocks if there is a lot of panic, can a 22% crash even possible for 1 day anymore???

    Sven, I like to invest 10.000 euro in gold at my online broker (DeGiro or Binck).
    If I want to follow the gold price as close as possible, what would be the safest and lowest cost tracking method ? Gold price tracking in euro (or dollar).

      Buy the biggest gold tracker GLD or the iShares gold tracker. But do ur research to find which has the most physical stores of gold, as I believe a lot of gold trackers sell more than they actually have. For that reason, buy physical too in order to protect yourself. Silver will imo see better returns in the next 5-10, so I'd put quarter in gold, quarter in silver and buy physical gold and silver with the other half.

The etf system will take the market much deeper as 2009. So yes i will buy in 2021. But now I Sell everything

      Tom - I'm not sure where you're seeing that. I took a look and a $10k investment in the European Stock Index at the beginning of 1996 would be worth about $46k today, which includes dividends. Hmmm...

    • @mjs28s
      @mjs28s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "European stocks. are not up from the 1996, so for the last 25 years no gains"
      What are "European" stocks?
      What sectors are in the index or whatever tracking method you are using contain and in what ratios?
      What countries and what weightings does each country have in whatever tracking method you are using?
      What is the market cap grouping that is in whatever method you are using to track "European" stock performance?
      This is like saying that 2000 to 2010 was the dead decade for stocks. Well, if you indexed it was but there were TONS of opportunities to buy undervalued stocks over that time period and come out in 2010 handily ahead.
      Or, you could also say, if you are dumb enough to look at a simple price chart, of the "stock market" for the US over the time of the Great Depression and you would think that you didn't break even from 1929 until around 1954. HOWEVER, stock market charts are price charts and don't account for dividends. If you simply had a portfolio in 1929, reinvested the dividends, you would have ended with a portfolio 400% higher by the time the 1954 chart would show you just breaking even. While the compounded annual return with dividends reinvested was not huge, a bit over 6%, the total return was still not bad and, even today, beats most investors since they cannot control their emotions.

      @@Value-Investing My point is no one alive has
      ever experienced a 25 or 30 year bear market in the US . Ask the Japanese about buy and hold or passive investing or idiotic mutual funds? . Some of these mutual and index funds charge up to 2% , the fees will wipe you out alone. You are an intelligent investor , 99% of the population has no business picking stocks and we're told these are the financial instruments we should use to compound are money ( sure ,if the next 40 years resembles the last 40.
