This is all true and good when one is managing large sums of money, and even with compound interest, it makes a huge difference if your starting capital is 10k, 100k, or 1 million dollars. To anyone willing to make it, the first thing is to bring up your savings rate as high as possible. This means cutting on expenses, and increasing income thru your day job. Next, is the part where everyone will tell you to invest in some broad market index fund and forget about it. I recommend against it, especially if you are young and have time on your hands. Diversification is a wealth protecting measure against the risks of being over exposed to a single market segment. But if you have little to no wealth accumulated, you do not want diversification, but concentration. Not only that, but with a healthy level of margin as well. Only by taking on more risk can one get oversized returns. What to invest on? Do your own research, but generally buy low sell high, buy with the trend, and most importantly; sell too early, as opposed to never selling at all and losing all the returns (AKA, take profits)
