Here I cover everything I use on the regular or have on hand just in case for my pigeons. It is important to have a few things to keep pigeons healthy and medicate them if they get sick. I take a natural approach to keeping them healthy unless something serious pops up. Then using the right pigeon medication for the birds is important! I have about 30 pigeons and have lost a few one having the head tilt and flying into walls. Mostly all my babies have been dying. Where do you purchase the vaccine that u use? I want to start vaccinating asap. And how much and how often do you add the apple cider vinegar in there water?
You wouldn’t vaccinate until about 30 days so if the babies aren’t making it that far no bueno. What kind of feed are you currently using?
Cider is 1TBS per gallon 2 times per week!
@@guywiththepinkgun I'm using Browns premium pigeon food and I mix in sunflower seeds as well. 1 of the babies that died had a head tilt at about 2 months, 2 other babies that were mabey a month old died and had full a full gullet. Still whole food. I have never had a problem with that before now. I have only had 1 adult die did not show neurological signs so not sure on that one.
@@charabruner2843 this is strange. I would love to see more what your loft and setup looks like. Also did you notice any changes in droppings?
@@StandingStoneKennels I have not noticed much change in droppings. There was some that was more liquid but not a significant amount.

Regardless of your level of expertise in pigeons, it opens the door for discussion. I learn just as much from the comments.
As long as you keep your loft clean and give your birds apple cider vinegar, grit, vitamins and exercise and sun you won't need vaccines
Interesting! We are flying at one loft races where they are more necessary!
Vaccines are required for one loft racing!
Knowledge is power, thank you for sharing your knowledge. My birds kick the nest bowls out as well. I take a drywall screw and I put a screw in the wood in front of the nest bowl to hold the bowl in place.

hello i have a pet pigeon i developed a bad cough from as indoor pet. i built a cage by my window and lookig to get her a friend. with her being alone or with one other bird should i worry about her catching diseases or is it when you have a loft with many birds who fly free? shes a pet who doesnt fly.
What prevent them from getting that sickness? Where they neck bent back? And they cant stand up? I hate see them sick like that.. sometime they recover from it

With oregano oil, how do you use that? I think my bird had conjunctivitis and that would probably help. Should I dilute it and put it in the eye?

if you do suspect pmv or salmonella where the bird is very neurologically ill / flopping around head tilt etc do you recommend culling the birds out and disposing of them or what are your thoughts Guy With The Pink Gun
Culling the bird for sure. It it is a really nice bird quarantine and see if it can make it.. but its typically really hard on them.

I would recommend lining the bottom of the cages with something like wood or maybe newspapers since those types of cage floors are bad for the pigeons feet. Otherwise interesting video :)

Well in the belle, lost them all in the peach.
Was sad to see the belle shut down, but ill be in the Peach for 2023
I appreciate the videos, but would add that emphasizing the absolute need for grit be noted, as well as a 2-inch front for the nests to prevent babies from being pushed out, or inadvertently crawling out and falling to the floor.
Adding a landing board in front also would be beneficial.
Again, though, your discussion of the medicines is helpful.

have you had any loft outbreaks of pmv etc where you had casualties?
With our training birds we have in the past.

I'm wanting to get a pair of homing pigeons, will they stay just being two or will I need alot more for them to stay?

I think my pigeon has conjunctivitis, swollen pink membrane under its eye. Any recommendations?

I would argue that grit is almost as important as medication.

What kind of grit do you use?
@@RainRedMusic Red pigeon grit with oyster shell or just oyster shell from tractor supply is best. 💪

I'm almost afraid to jump in here. I know what a pigeon looks like. ...and there you have the extent of my pigeon knowledge. My husband, who is fighting advanced cancer, was given 8 pigeons. Now, along with caring for husband, 14 chickens, 3 pygmy goats, 2 dogs, 5 cats ... I need info on caring for pigeons. Basics. VERY basic. We have 1 male and 7 females ... I think. How do you tell? How often for ACV? Can someone point me to somewhere I can learn? I'm not finding very many helpful YT videos. I'd appreciate the help very much.

I have 4 in a large cage. They keep breaking the eggs and every nest I make they push the egg out and remove the hay. Any suggestions?

I used to have nesting boxes like you but I had problems with chicks falling out of the nest. Any idea why?
Parents push them out.
Nail a 2-inch tall lip to the front of the boxes and have a 6-inch wide board jutting out from the lip as a landing platform.

Do you have to worry about cryptococcus? I'm wanting to start my pigeon loft soon to train my pointers.
Personally I haven’t had any issues with this.

I had a pigeon fly into my garage last fall and I have no clue about them. Leaving from watching your videos Also is there a way I can find out where it escaped from? Because it keeps flying back to my garage like it belongs here! 🤷🏻♀️Help

But now it’s been almost a month, no sign of its return😰 I am heart broken because these past few months I had gotten to love this bird! Just hoping it didn’t turn to bird food for the big cultures above!
