Love all the R5C content lately! Seems like there’s always new stuff to learn about it. Gotta be their most interesting camera 🎥
The R5C is such a quirky, yet powerful camera. Thanks for watching!
Mans out here putting in work. Thanks, Josh.
You're welcome. Thanks for checking out the video!
This is amazing thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
dude thank you so much for the constant r5c content you are the king of knowledge for this camera!!!!!!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
deep dive appreciated!
and congrats on the 30k+!! 🥳🥳
Thanks! Glad you liked the video!
This was really helpful, thanks Josh! I'm thinking about upgrading to the Canon R5C and it looks like a great camera, I was just checking to confirm there wasn't a crop -in when shooting 4K like on the Canon EOS R, which is my current camera.
Hey Kelsey! You're welcome! No, the R5C doesn't crop in with any of the 4K modes unless you chose to. Send me a DM on IG if you have any more questions. Happy to help.
Thanks for posting that dude, a few months back I had noticed that I could slap a speed booster on and turn that Enhanced digital stabilization on to High to get rid of the vignette but never knew exactly what it was cropping to, going to bookmark this video for future reference!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Title felt like scraping ths barrel, but I'm really glad I watched it. Thanks for the lesson, teach!
You're welcome. Yeah, I wasn't sure what to tile this but hopefully people will find it through search if they are looking for this information. Thanks for watching!
@@Josh_Sattin best crop combos? That 4x rizz
thanks so much ..gkad your making new content for the r5c, I think its such an under rated Canera that some people just over looked.
You are very welcome. Yeah, it's a very powerful camera for sure. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks for this Josh! Next time you speak to Canon can you ask them for 1.5x anamorphic de squeeze in camera. It’s a clown show that they haven’t added this while having 1.3x, 1.8x and 2x as options.
You're welcome. Sony also leaves some of the middle squeeze factors out too. So weird. Thanks for watching!
Geek! I love it! ❤
Oh yeah. I love to nerd out.
This is a very informative video. I definitely enjoy this nerdy type of content. Question: have you done any testing on R5 crop modes in Video?
Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't have a R5 at the moment. I do remember the 4K crop mode is great because it is oversampled (not line skipped). It also has better heat management than the full frame 4KHQ mode.
@@Josh_Sattin Agreed. It’s a wonderful mode indeed. Especially when I learned I can record 5K/60fps RAW on a Ninja V+, which is more manageable than 8K RAW, and with better heat management. I’ve been considering the R5C as a second body since they’ve come down in price on used market. Maybe I’ll see what R5 II brings as a comparison. Thanks for all the great content.
Great video... I'm just hoping we can use our notes for the exam!
(Finally, content with a ton of overlap on the Venn Diagram from your math teaching days to your current status as a videography educator!)
Thanks! And bonus points for you for using a Venn Diagram!
@@Josh_Sattin ha ha!!
Great breakdown! I shoot RE on a 15-35 and didn't realize until recently that it does crop in a bit like you mentioned on 16x9, so closer to a 16mm focal length. 17x9 it is to get that full 15mm field of view then. Great vid!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Very well explained, thank you.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great video but how crop or resize super 35 to normal 4k in post without losing quality in final cu thankst@@Josh_Sattin
Just import the S35 footage into a 4K timeline and it will work.
@@TheAgora123 even in crop mode, R5c is down sampling from 5 or 6k so sharpness and video quality is top notch. Regardless of the video editing software you use, select project resolution as 4k and when you import the video in the editing program, all will work fine.
Thanks another great video@@EhtashamAnwar
I really wish the R5C amongst the likes of the Nikon Z8 and Z9 had 8K 60 in HEVC H.265 with data rates of around 200-600 Mbps. Hopefully the Sony A1ii or even Panasonic's replacement to the S1R can do this in 2024 or 2025. Great video as always
No camera available in the world can do this. It’s just the limit of the technology as of writing this in April 2024. Very few cameras even have the CPU power to do 8K 30p in H265. The Ronin 4D 8K recently released is a $12,000 camera and can’t do 8K H265 at all not even 30p So please understand that 8K 30p is already rare and computationally intensive so anything needing double the horsepower is unlikely anytime soon. Maybe in the next, next gen of cameras.
Hi Josh, thanks for the great videos on the Canon R5c, they have been very helpful. Just wondering, would you consider doing a video regarding image stabilization? Specifically addressing the warping effect when using EF IS lenses and digital Is?
A bit of context if you are interested. I got a R5c to accompany my c200. I have been using it as a handheld cam for more challenging situations where tripods and gimbals are impractical. I use my EF 24-105 f4 II on both cameras, but when paired with the R5C, a warping effect is very noticeable, especially when focused on close subjects at a longer focal length. The c200 does not have this issue. I’ve googled it but can’t find a reliable explanation, so I’m wondering if you have any insights.
Thanks!
I prefer S35 mode on this and the R5. Oversampled 5.9k with better rolling shutter.
Hi Josh
I recently discovered your channel. I love your content. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing with us. I have a question for you. I own an eos R5. What is its crop factor in video crop mode and IS enhanced mode? Thank you
Josh here. Thanks for checking out the channel. The crop factor in video on the R5 is 1.6x. I am not sure what the crop factor is for IS enhanced on the R5 though. I'm not sure if it's the same as the R5C.
@@Josh_Sattin thanks for replying. And sorry about the auto correction.
Is there a practical way I can determine the IBIS enhanced crop factor such as taking videos and actually measuring things? Or a quick math to do with the resolution? Thanks again and great channel.
You're welcome. Put your camera on a tripod and film without any stabilization on. Then record a clip with stabilization on. Bring the clips into your computer. Zoom in to the first clip until it matches the one with stabilization and look to see how much you zoomed in.
@@Josh_Sattin Appreciate you Josh. Thanks much
Oh Canon Cyprus. Don't mess with a former maths teacher!
Haha!
Thoughts on the new teleconverter feature with the recent update? I think it may be a game changer - particularly for macro purposes. Is the resolution useable?
Unfortunately I haven't played with the teleconverter features yet.
Hi Josh, not the correct way to pose this question, but, have you considered the advantages and disadvantages of RF vs EF lenses on R series cameras. With the R5C and adapter, you can use the ND filter control exposure, I have seen you review. Would this make an interesting topic for a future video ? Enjoy you no nonsense videos. Stephen - UK
You’re great thank you
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hi it’s really helpful and super advice. Small question if you can help. What is the purpose of using super 35 or other crop factors on video filming? I can understand if for sports or wildlife will be good, but in documentary and weddings will that be useful and do you loose any quality of the frames thanks
Extra reach, smaller raw file sizes, using S35 lenses, more depth of field at the same aperture.
@@Josh_Sattin many thanks
I still don’t understand. When and why would you choose super 35 instead of full frame? Does it give you a vintage film look?
Extra reach, smaller raw file sizes, using S35 lenses, more depth of field at the same aperture.
@@Josh_Sattin thank you! So when shooting at super 35mm do you recommend using a Cine Prime 35mm lens or which lens is ideal?
@@SilmarAparicio You’re welcome. Whatever focal length to get the framing you want. Lens choice is also subjective based on the look that you are trying to achieve.
Damn that R5C still looking at me from the shop shelves. Do you think it is still worth it as a « cinema » camera to pair it up with my R6 II ? That hdmi thingy really bugs me…
The R5C is a powerful yet quirky camera. Before you buy any camera you just need to decide what the new camera will do for you that your old camera can't.
Is there a crop factor shooting at 120p?
There isn't by default, but you can turn on crop modes if you want.
Does 120p also has crop on it?
No it does not.
it's like 4th grade math, no need to appologize....
