You are wrong! The younger generation is watching the Golden GIrls. A whole new generation is finding out what a gem of a show this is and just how wonderful these comedic actresses are.
I'm 18 and watch GG. It's hilarious!
@@raqueljantjies6245 True, but not with parents.
I grew up watching it with my granny and mum, I came to England with my British spouse and her family thought golden girls is for old people to watch 😂😂😂
Just these clips were far from any funniest for the most part..... not even on St Olaf jokes from Rose.... and so many years of episodes.... the young lad was bored looking as usual here.... crossed arms and all.
:D When I was 16 I binged the whole show.. Now once a year I will put it on and watch a season or 2
Golden Girls is another show that I found funny as a kid but find it even funnier now that I'm older.
💯👍
I was so disappointed by his reaction. 😂 I wish they would have watched the first two episodes instead or even a random episode that was recommended to them. This show is just SO good.
this is how I feel about King of the Hill. I've gotten older and watching the show now, it's like. "wait.. I know that guy... I know them too.. damn..."
Oh yes me too! I loved it as a kid, but I FEEL it as an adult
SAME!!!! I think in my case its cause i can understand all the jokes now.
Believe it or not, The Golden Girls has seen a huge surge in popularity in the last several years in the U.S. among all ages, from young children to the elderly.
Yeah, it's on constantly. I love it. People who see it from a distance probably assume it's going to be some easy, slow-paced, gentle old lady fodder but its quite the opposite. Killer comedy.
It’s my 10 year old nieces favorite show and she doesn’t even understand half the jokes. It’s because me and her mom watch it all the time.
The young people here in the states love this show. It's from the mid 1980s and still holds up. We love it. My daughter has Sofia's picture as her contact icon on her phone for my number.
I see people wearing Golden Girls tshirts.
as a 36 year old black dude, love those ladies bro
"Black? Benjamin wadn't black. He was from New Jersey."
@@kernow9324 hilarious
Me too, but I'm 42 lol
Dude, there was not a kid in the USA that didn't watch the golden girls growing up from 1990's to 2010.
Yes there is lol… I didn’t get into it until about 2 years ago as a 28 y/o.. it seem like an old person show when I was younger 😊
@@chantanelsmith5656How in the world did you miss all those Golden Girls marathons on Nickelodeon like everyday for years?🤯 It feel like the show was literally burn into my brain.😵💫🔥🧠🔥
1980s!
1980’s agreed. Born in 86 and The Golden Girls is a show I grew up on. Watching this with the parents is probably one of my earliest memories, watching this and Designing Women.
@@soulzenith8125 I simply turned the channel lol once it came on or I seen that it was on… I couldn’t relate..
Kids are indeed watching it. Your son needs to lighten up.
I don't know any American who does not like the golden girls, specifically Betty White. They would be surprised how many 20 plus Americans watch the show reruns.
Betty White is a national treasure but Bea Arthur’s delivery was always my favorite. So deadpan
Exactly; they are beloved here. He'd be given a hard time if he lived over here and didn't like the Golden Girls. But to be fair, these clips don't really give you the context to get just how funny some of these quips are. They should watch a full episode to really get it.
I'm Spanish. I used to watch with my grandma, in Spain, Spanish dubbed :_D And it was hilarious and wholesome and wonderful.
I went to a gay bar two years ago and Golden Girls reruns were playing on the tv screens like a football game at a sports bar. Golden Girls is multi-generational. Ironically or unironically, everyone loves it. And it stands the test of time. It's really funny, the four comedienne leads were outstanding, and it's got a lot of heart. It's really timeless.
In the wonderful Andrew Haigh/Michael Lannan HBO series "Looking" (2014-16), about three gay men in San Francisco who are good friends, there are intermittent (and very funny) references to "The Golden Girls." The music over the credits at the end of Season 1 is the theme song from the earlier show.
Idk how old Aidan is but I’m 23 and love The Golden Girls, and I know a lot of people my age do too. Might be more of a US thing tho.
It is more US because I have been watching Golden Girls since I was six. I am 36 now and I never get tired of this show.
I'm English and love it. It was very popular here!
I'm 16 from the US and it's my favorite!
Im 24 and I've watched all the seasons front to back and never get tired of it
Honestly Aiden doesn’t like much
Dorothy is the smart sarcastic one.
Rose is the naive kind one.
Blanche is the sexed up man hungry one..also the home owner.
Sophia is Dorothy's mother who had a stroke and her sensor is completely gone...she tells it like it is
Spot on except It’s Blanche’s home.
@@hatleyhoward7193 That's what michiganjfrog said. The stroke Sophia had destroyed the part of her brain that censors things. They discuss that in the Pilot episode, the one with the gay cook.
You have to know the characteristics and backgrounds of all of the women to "get" most of the humor. It's one of the most consistently funny comedies ever.
I'm from Hong Kong and in my early twenties. I came across small sections of this show on Facebook, and I find it really hilarious!
As someone who's learnt English as a 2nd language, I'd say I'm fairly fluent in it, but I'm still unfamiliar with some of the vocab & colloquial terms, and much of the cultural aspects. Sometimes, I'd even struggle with Sophia's faster-than-average speaking speed or Blanche's Southern accent.
Like, I know Walmart is a retail store, and Ronald Reagan was one of the POTUS, but I still wouldn't be able to understand any of those jokes, simply because we're a Pacific Ocean apart and I've never been exposed to these topics. (These are already the more well-known names, and one of the few ones that I've heard of. Pick a random actress from the 80s and I bet I'll have to Google every name you give me. Well, except the 4 Golden Girls.)
I think that as long as I don't live in the States, (or other English-speaking regions) this will be a part of the English language that I could never comprehend. It's a little bit sad I guess, but this is just how language and culture are intertwined.
I LOVE the Golden Girls, but the person that created this didn't pick some of the most epic clips. Watching an episode in full is the best way to experience them. So many great episodes!!!
There were no St. Olaf stories in it.
I agree these clips weren't the best. Even the zingers they picked for Dorothy were kind of mild.
I think they picked this up from TH-cam.
I agree. There are so many funnier stories than these clips. My favourite is the one with Dr Jonathan Newman. I'm laughing just remembering it! 🤣
@@kernow9324 "Shrimp?" 😂😂😂
I’m 27 and have seen every episode of this show - first with my gma when I was younger & a few times on my own. I would even consider it in my Top 5 all time. And it still holds up BEAUTIFULLY after all these years.
whats wrong with Aidan? you got 4 of the funniest ladies ever, including queen Betty White, and he's acting like he's got a stick up his hinney.
Next time ask for the candlestick
First, he's too young to appreciate the humor and second, these clips are out of context to understand the meaning of the jokes, but still funny.
@@john-dm1rx I first started watching the Golden Girls because of these clips which made me go to the library and rent some of the seasons they have there.
@@john-dm1rx he’s not too young. I watched this show with my entire family when it first aired. I was 13. We all loved it. Does age help, sure. But funny is funny. Too many people are just jaded.
It’s a candlestick
I'm 34 & it's one of my comfort shows. I aspire to be Dorothy when I'm older 😆
Yessss! Dorothy stans unite!
More of a Sophia myself, but I LOVE Dorothy as well.
Im 37 and grew up watching this with my mom. Happy to see its resurgence in popularity, one of the funniest shows ever on tv.
We saw it in Germany in the midst 80's - I was around 14 back then and I begged my Mom to let me stay awake to watch it.... the show aired at 11 pm on Tuesday night... It was so funny.... I love watching it to this very day and I guess I will enjoy seeing the Golden Girls for the rest of my life!
I knew the boy wouldn’t care for it. He doesn’t seem to be open to a lot of things. It’s hilarious.
He was laughing at some of them but the compilation itself is pretty lack luster.
@@Kurai1 He was lackluster. Not the clip.
@@donny1960 They had jokes that took too long to get to a point and weren't worth their build up or had some slightly funny joke at best. You can get better jokes out of 'best of (character)' compilations and just because he isn't being as animated as the other two, doesn't mean he doesn't find them funny.
@@Kurai1 Sure. Thanks for filling me in. Somehow I saw things my way. Not yours. Will never happen again.... ha ha ha
I think a lot of the jokes went over Aidan's head. 😀 I agree, "Golden Girls" is definitely one of the funniest and smartest TV sitcoms ever made. It still holds up today and was ahead of its time in terms of some of the subjects it tackled. Some younger people may miss some of the cultural references which were current when the show originally aired.
Oh yes people Aiden's age are watching it and loving it! Lol There's people checking it out on TH-cam.
how could Aiden not think this was funny? His attitude was a total buzzkill...
He usually is.
This isn’t age. Loads of young people love this show. He looks sorta blah. Course I’ve never seen these three. If it’s not for him, that’s fine but he just seemed so dead inside.
It makes you wonder about the shows people like him find funny...
He really is a buzzkill..a real drip..
That just show how awful and sad that Generation is
A lot of young people over here in the USA, love watching the Golden Girls. We still do as a matter of fact" so the show is for people of all ages not just for old or middle age folks.
This is an example of a perfectly cast show, everyone is perfect for their role and the show wouldn't be the same without each one of them. Younger people watch it too. Great writing and the jokes are often timeless.
Sophia (Dorothy's Mom) her name is Estelle Getty - and believe it or not, she was the next to the YOUNGEST on the show!! She was cute as a button without her "elderly" makeup. Sadly, Betty White (Rose) was the last of this group to pass away - they are all gone now - this show was awesome!
Dang never knew she was the youngest
I always remember her in Mannequin. Had a mad crush on Andrew McCarthy.
Only Rue was younger than Estelle
Estelle Getty had her great breakthrough as the mother in Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy" on Broadway, which led to her being cast as Sophia.
You need to watch the entire episode to get it. These ladies are funny and the show still holds up as a lot of the topics are still relevant. Do yourself a favor and watch the full episodes.
Honestly, in the US, LOTS of young people love this show. They discover the reruns on their own or they remember their grandparents watching it and love to rewatch all the episodes. Especially younger millennials and older Gen Z
I’m 24 and I love The Golden Girls. I’ve seen all the episodes. It’s such a good comfort show.
You can’t watch bits without the context of the story. You should really watch an entire episode. It’s just so great and hilarious! Glad you’re checking it out though in any form.
Yes, it doesn't make sense to watch bits of a show you've never seen.
People your son's age are watching it. HE has to see the show not just the clips, the writing is phenomenal and timeless!
The Golden Girls are still popular here in the States. Even among people in their 30s and 40s
Speak for yourselves. I fall asleep to it every night. I was born in 87 and the show was before that. Americans still watch and love the show hence why they still replay it. Tell the kid to get a sense of humor lol
I give you guys credit for looking at this. Probably the last show in the world that I would have expected you to check out. But the connection with your mom makes perfect sense. The show was ground breaking. Touched on controversial subjects for its time. And the gags and sarcasm are off the charts. And each character is ultra stereotypical for ladies of that age. Great reaction.
I started watching this show when it first debuted when was only 5 years old. I still watch it today in my 40’s. It’s always had massive appeal for all ages.
Golden Girls came out when I was 9 and watched it every week. It's still my favorite show
To think Betty was the oldest and out lived them all by 10 years
The gentleman in the hat had me shaking my head. Really, hardly even a chortle??? Some fools don't appreciate good TV and TRUE comedy.
This was a hit show for all ages in the USA. It was the first time middle aged woman were shown as normal people via through a comedic view point.
I worked at a college cafeteria and 18 year olds were wearing Golden Girls t shirts. This was two years ago. They told me they thought the show was so funny. 😁
So surprised how you think younger people wouldn't watch it. It aired in the US in 1985(?). I was in my early 20's then and always loved this show. Couldn't wait to be older like these ladies... my friend's and I would always talk about wanting to end up like the Golden Girls when husband's died (women live longer than men). Thought it would be great sharing a place with friends as we got older. We're all older now... but still not old enough to live together. Great idea for when/ if the opportunity arises.
People of all ages love the golden girls. I watched it was a kid and my nephews and nieces love it. He needs to watch a full episode not just clips.
I'm 33, and I have been watching this show my entire life! Even now, if I see it's on I will watch ever episode that plays. Reminds me of my childhood and the jokes are, for the most part, timeless.
The show is from the 80s so the fashion and aesthetic may be outdated (although the 80s aesthetic of _The Golden Girls_ is nowhere near as loud and noticeable as other 80s shows). But the writing of this show is NOT dated at all. It holds up so well cuz of how well written the show is. And no, young people DO watch this show. I and other kids grew up watching reruns of this series in the 1990s with our parents. This was one of the most popular shows on TV when it was on the air. Not just with older audiences.
The guy with the hat offered absolutely nothing to this video
He never does.
He never seems to enjoy being there. Are they forcing him to do it? Like, if it’s that far beneath him, why bother?
@@JaneDoe-lq3du we were all teenagers once, by that I mean very unlikable creatures, but he's a good kid
Yes, I don't understand why he does the videos.
He doesn't have to validate our choices. The kid is alright..maybe he could appreciate it a bit later.
Definitely should watch more compilations of it.
I'm 16 and it's my all time favorite show!
Young dude didn't want to like it before he even started watching. 👎👎👎👎
He was so sour, I wouldn’t watch him again
It's women. It's OLD women. He assumed it would embarrass him to like it. I've been watching it since I was his age and loved every minute. How he could not like even the sexual double entendre (the heating pad skit for example) is mystifying.
@@popland1977 Right, I had to unsubscribe.
@@BTinSF Right, I figure he didn't want anyone to assume he thought any old people could possibly be funny, I don't think he even listened to them very much and what he did hear he didn't understand.
@@BTinSFIt's pointed out that these are taken out of context....he might enjoy a line here or there but this is not way to watch any show.
I’m 30 and it’s one of my husband and Is favorites and has been for a long time. We’ve watched the whole series through 3 or 4 times.
Hold on a minute…I was a teenager when this came out, and I never missed a single episode. Many young people back in the 80’s never missed The Golden Girls.
Many young people today don’t, either. It’s seen a resurgence and is pretty popular among teens and young adults. Many of my students love it.
I’m 40 (1983). I’ve watched this show regularly since I was a child. My quick wit can be partly accredited to this show in particular. This and DESIGNING WOMEN (came on after GG) are still two of the funniest shows ever created. They are both superior to the majority of shows on today.
I was 17 when this show premiered. Everyone I knew in high school was watching it and thought these ladies were pergect in their roles. It was hilarious then & still is today.
The cast actually put on a live performance in London at the request of the Queen Mother. It was her favorite show during that time. There are actually better compilations of the show on TH-cam.
Not surprising since all the women started in either live theater or live television.
Love love love this show!!!!
My mom grew up watching the Golden Girls and she made sure that my siblings and I grew up with them and a few other oldies as well. Funny moments are good but what I think will get the younger man into the show would be watching The Best of Sarcastic Dorothy. Dorothy's sarcasm is one of my favorite things to watch as she doesn't have a filter when it comes to the women she is staying with. The Golden Girls always manage to make me laugh! 😂
You only just watching this now, I’m a Brit and always watched this as a kid. Was on tv every day
If you've guys have never seen it I recommend Mama's Family. Loved that show growing up and love it even more now.
Yes, but they should skip the first couple seasons and start watching when Iola and Bubba join the cast.
Gen Z loves The Golden Girls. I’m a millennial and loved the reruns as a kid, and still love it today.
The son doesn’t know what he’s missing. Even the kids in the US are watching it.
Man, your son is a tough cookie. If golden girls can’t break him… nothing can😢
These girls are hilarious! They are making a big comeback with the younger generations!
Are you kidding me when darrin said "people your age arent watching it."? Lots of millennials are watching this show on reruns...im genx/millennial..im 39 i love it..genz watch it because their parents are watching it😅
Aidan is Gen Z, not millennial

I was watching reruns as a teenager. Definitely can still be funny to the younger crowd. There are occasional jokes related to pop culture that might go over people’s heads.
Aidan looks defensive. Maybe just invite him if he himself wants to be there.
Great point!
I’ve watched this show loads since I was 24, it’s Hilarious
You are watching clips. The shows are still great. The buildup for the jokes, the chemistry. Yes, young people do watch and enjoy these shows.
The Golden Girls is a bit like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood in that if you grew up in the US watching it, it’s just really special to you.
Love this show back then and now
My absolute favorite show. You have to watch episodes not just cut aways to get context. My entire bathroom is golden girls themed. ♥ I am the 5th golden girl.
When Golden Girls first aired here in the States, I was 3 years old when it ended May 9,1992. I was 10 years old. Even though I was a child during those years I loved it it was the great times I shared with my Grandmother (RIP) still till this day I rewatch it. Its sad to know all the cat members passed.😢
I watched it as a kid and still watch it
Love the Golden Girls. Its alot better when you watch the whole show and not just little clips.
This show teaches me that age is just a number.
I watched this, as did so many of my peers, when I was a teenager in the 1980’s and early 90’s. Enjoyment of this show spanned generations.
Im 37 and this is one of my favorite shows ever. I watch it like everyday 😂
Aiden sitting there like "I don't get this old lady humor" 😂
This was my show as a kid. Always loved old people.
what’s interesting is the actors who played the golden girls were in their 50’s ,you would think that they were in their 70’s
And the actress who played Sophia was the youngest of the 4
@@toriboy25Rue was the youngest by over a decade. Estelle was younger than Betty and Bea. Everyone was in her 60s when the show premiered except for Rue.
Gen Z here and I love this show sm.
These are great clips but it's even funnier in context. The episodes build to the big punchlines at the end.
I used to watch this in the 90s with my grandma way before I understood the jokes. I still love it it this day, but now I actually get all the references. Such a great show!
Aidan doesn't like anything.
This show is a classic that people will find funny for many years to come.
Here, in the US, before the internet, the young and old were watching this. I was a teen when It started in 1985. We thought it was funny.
Born in 1976 and grew up with this show. Still watch it at least two times a year. I have all seven seasons on DVD.
My granddaughter and her friends watch this. It's a timeless American classic. Well-placed humor never goes out of style. Thanks for sharing.
When I moved to the USA from Mexico legally, I learned all my English and dry humor from them and I was 10
I grew up watching this show & it's still one of my absolute favorites and a comfort show! I'm 40 now.
Golden Girls is one of the few American live action comedies that is actually really funny!!
I rememember watching "The Golden Girls" in the 80s, Friday nights, Channel 4 at 10pm.
I’m 22, and I’ve been watching The Golden Girls since I was a little girl. Classic and absolutely hilarious. Great characters!
This is the best tv show I remember being sick home from school watching this with a glass of ginger ale and a turkey sandwich 🥪 watching this with my mom im gen z and I appreciate this show alot ❤ reminds me of my grandmother 👵🏻😢
How could anyone not find the Golden Girls funny??? It's literally one of the wittiest, most hilarious shows ever, which is why it has stood the test of time so well.
Ive watched this show since i was a child. Watched with my grandmother
I was a kid when it originally aired and it was my favorite sitcom then and still is! GG is ageless and still holds up! You should watch the clips of the most savage comebacks of Sofia and Dorothy because this show has the best one liners in tv! You should definitely give it another chance. 😊
I was a teenager when the Golden Girls premiered. I watched it faithfully during its initial run. I have recently purchased the entire series digitally and I plan to start watching it again soon.
I believe dorothys mother was actually the youngest in real life .
No, Estelle Getty was the second youngest, Rue (Blanche) was the youngest. Betty White was the oldest
I grew up watching Golden Girls pretty much my whole life I've always loved this show. The ladies remind me of my grandma (before she passed) and my mother and aunties this is how they interacted and it was always a good time
Millennial here. Growing up in the 90s, the golden girls raised me. They were ahead of its time for starting in the 80s. The show dealt with homophobia, sexism, racism, ageism, antisemitism, deportation, homelessness, in vitro fertilization, and was one of the first shows to synthesize with AIDS victims (mainstream shows weren’t talking about AIDS at that point). It had episodes dealing with interracial couples, generational couples, and even dating little people. It really helped me shape my view on aging and introduced me to a diverse grow of people. It was SOOOO ahead of the times and the humor still holds up. It’s a really rare show.
The Golden Girls is popular across many demographics..young, old, black, white, gay, straight, etc. I think this guy Adrian just didn't want to enjoy it due to his own prejudice. He seems like the type that doesn't have have much range to his personality which is odd considering he's doing reactions where most people come into it with an open mind. Oh well.
Yeah the dude is just boring. People who are rigid and close minded and don’t like to give new things a chance usually are.
I was a kid in the 80s and everyone I know- young and older- watched the Golden Girls every Saturday night. We all loved it- and I understood the humor, too.
People his age are watching it.... It's hilarious and way ahead of its time!!!
The Golden Girls is a classic! People of all ages in America loves.
People in their 20’s and 30’s still watch it very much.
Super underrated show. Betty White was a legend. She was so quick witted right up until her passing.
