I am a musician specializing in corporate events (not a DJ). I was hired for an event 3 months out. 3 Days before the event the client told my event planner that they wanted a dj instead of a musician. The planner told them they would still need to pay the musician at such short notice so the client decided to just go with me playing live music. When I set of for the event it was clear that they were pissed that I was there, so I said, "what if I DJ for you instead?" I had installed djay pro on my iPad and so I just connected my iPad to my PA and used djay pro to DJ their event. It was awesome. Client was happy and I got paid just the same. Thank you djay Pro!!
If the question is posed like that, from my point of view you can answer with a clear conscience in the meantime: Yes, you can work as a DJ with the iPad - and I personally like that, I find the idea extremely charming. But you should take a few circumstances into account. With a controller and other external devices you have more possibilities to perform. In addition, the iPad brings with it some technical limitations. So you will always have to work with different adaptations. On a real gig, it's also usually problematic to pre-listen to a channel on the headphones, because the volume on the headphone output is much too low. And so there are a few other things that you should at least pay attention to. I think it depends on what you want to achieve in the end.
Hey man, I have a question, normally with a laptop you would get two audio outputs one for monitoring with headphones and one for the PA, how does that work with this setup, you didnt mention anything about that. Thanks in advance
Ok, how do you preview songs with a headphone? You need 2 Soundcards in order to do that. How to connect? I hav been told that you can't do that with that little multiport adapter. So please let us know.

Hey Justin, love your enthusiasm. Do you have any links to a dj actually djing using the iPad? Have you done any sets that j you don't mind sharing with us?
Hi everyone! I think we are all seeing it comming. The technology is in fact better and offering performances at a high levels with the AI behind it. Some products may have such an improvement over the mobile DJ. I still feel the need to use a controler because sometimes we may have some issues such as the loss of signal in some remote area and the show we put on as a DJ may be underated because anyone can be a DJ with that. I'm convinced that it will bring more DJ to perform better but are we missing the point of being a DJ? I come from the vinyl era.. maybe it's just about the image. ;) To be realistic, i would use it for small venues because there's no need for bulky equipments and i would charge a little less to the client.
This is something I was considering trying out. I got an iPad to use with the Reloop Buddy (and DJPro Software). I absolutely love the software!!! But I had some problems with my Reloop Buddy. First off it seemed super picky about what kind of power source I used and would not work with things that really should have worked, it was also inconsistent with things that worked in one place but then wouldn’t work in another. Secondly the output of the music quality sounded so bad!!!! I tried getting higher quality cords but that didn’t work. Mind you all these things I used to use with a pioneeer Dj-sr2 and Serrato. So I returned it. I considered getting another one in case it was just a fluke but haven’t yet. But this got me thinking could I just use the iPad alone?? When I would practice and make set points I would often do so with just the iPad. But I guess my big questions is: how do you DJ without using any headphones to preview songs? Do you just rely heavily on cue points?
