One of the Fathers of Rock and Roll. His early hits are, 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On', 'Great Balls of Fire' and 'Breathless', just to name a few. He helped change the nature of 'popular music'. BTW, he, Jimmy Swaggart and Mickey Gilley were related.... I hadn't heard this version of 'Sweet Georgia Brown'. Thanks for playing!

Didn't know this one. To be honest, I've only heard three or four songs. This one, however, brings the mood up to a new level. How on earth does he move his fingers so fast and not miss a key or press a wrong one. I'm completely baffled. Would love to get some more Jerry on the channel.

I live in the town he is from, along with his cousins Mickey Gilley (country singer) and Jimmy Swaggert (preacher). I am friends with one of his sons that live here along with some of his grandkids. This is where they had his funeral.

This is in 1983, in 1981 Jerry lee lewis was admitted to the ICU with a 2 inch tear in his stomach, he spent 90 days in intensive care, with something like a 30% chance of living, this performance would be just two years after that happened.

I know a little of his music and what I know is just like this. Absolute FIRE!! I know he plays with his feet, maybe an elbow, Idk. I know he's set his piano on fire before also. He was also one of the big four at Sun Records, along with Elvis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. Did you notice how he has the mic stand right in front of the piano so he has to reach around it with his right hand to hit those high keys? Craziness! I'm here for more Jerry Lee. I'd love to learn more about the man's music. His personal life is another story, I guess. 😬😬

    • @setonhillstudios

That did seem like weird mic placement to me but I guess that’s what he got comfortable with! Definitely a master on the keys! He was making that ivory sing!

Jerry Lee Lewis was kick butt.
Just as good but much more animated in his younger years. He'd be dancing while he was playing. Lol
Of course the controversial marriage was another matter.
Quite common at the time to marry younger. Up until 2018 Missouri was the place if you wanted to marry someone as young as 14.😮
The biggest issue everyone had was it was a second cousin.
At least our family was third. Just kidding ...
    Good music is good music.
    Ours is not to judge.
Especially what we know nothing about.

The Beatles came a few years before and started the English invasion..And brought with them ...The use of drugs, new music, and began a new era. And also a new low for Rock.. Then Jerry destroyed his career and married Myra Gale Brown, his 13-year-old first cousin.. The public destroyed him. To save himself from drinking, drugging, and poor record sales, he switched to Country music. From the late 60s all through the 70s he had over 30 top ten hits. In 1968 he recorded "Another Place, Another Time" ( my favorite) which went to number 4 on the Country charts for 17 weeks and led to many Gold records and Grammys. Drunk or sober, up or down, Jerry played and sang the rest of his life.

At age 22 Jerry married his 13yo cousin, and lied about it on his overseas tour. Needless to say he's not popular in alot of countries outside USA for good reason.😢

@@PaulGaston88 he was also a bigamist. He was still married to Jane Mitchum when he married Myra the first time in 1957. Yeah he had 2 marry her again after he got rid of his second wife. A real POS. His tours got cancelled and he was boycotted.

He was 21 actually, and WTF has that got to do with the music genius that was JLL ? They had a proper marriage for 13 years….and remained on good terms till thd day he died.
