That's actually Dennis Quaid. He did a fantastic job portraying Jerry Lee Lewis. This film is called Great Balls of Fire and I've watched it more times than I can count. It's fantastic.

Dennis Quaid wasn't singing in this film, but he was playing piano. Dennis Quaid is already a musician, but he worked alongside Jerry Lee Lewis, to get his skill perfect. He spent 2 years learning to play exactly like Jerry Lee Lewis, and the last 6 months leading up to filming, he spent 12 hours a day, practicing his skills.
Yes, he really did set his piano on fire. It was 1957, and he was doing the Alan Freed Package Tour. He had a bottle of Coca-Cola, mixed with gasoline and matches prepared. He was actually singing Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, and as he was finishing that song, He poured the liquid in the piano and threw a match in it. The piano caught fire, but Jerry continued to play it until it burned down. I have seen footage of him talking about it. 😂

The video is not him, but the music is. Jerry Lee rerecorded the songs for the film.
That girl he was looking at while playing.. was his first cousin.. which he married her.. when she was only 13 lol.. Crazy but TRUE! lol .. Obviously those were actors.. but the Real Jerry Lee Lewis did in fact marry his cousin! lol
Myra Gale Brown was his first cousin, once removed, which makes her his second cousin.
She was the daughter of his first cousin, and base player, J.W. Brown.
He was just that kind of CRAZY!!
And... he forgot to get divorced from his first wife!
Second cousin marriages are legal in most, if not all states, so he probably wasn't the first or the last.
This is a re-enactment of the encounter between Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry but actual footage shows this to be right on. In fact, there is a legend that during the filming of the movie, Jerry Lee showed up with a bottle of Bourbon and a gun, saying that the songs WERE PLAYED BY HIM AND NOBODY ELSE... and they reached an agreement that Jerry himself made the recordings, and that in the video clip of the main song, Jerry sang, and the piano was played by both the actor Denis Quaid and Lewis himself.

Jerry lee lewis did the soundtrack for the movie, or I should say he played all the songs of his that is in the movie. Not Jerry lee performing here, but it is Jerry Lee that recorded the song itself. BUT YOU GOT TO SEE JERRY LEE LEWIS LIVE!!!!
That’s from the movie Great Balls Of Fire, and there was 3 times that he did actually light it fire. Charlotte North Carolina, Ohio, and I think the 3rd was California. Also he did do the foot on the keys when playing the piano. Sadly we lost him a few years ago

This is Dennis Quaid playing him in a movie but Jerry Lee Lewis was a musical prodigy from childhood along with his cousins Micky Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert. Mickey went more the country music route and Swaggert is a preacher and gospel music route. All three played the piano like they were/are born to it but Lewis was every bit as wild as he’s portrayed in this movie. He’d kick his seat over while playing and did occasionally set the piano on fire and kept playing it. He married his second cousin when she was 14 and he was well into his 20’s and that scandal hurt him a lot but he didn’t mind. He always did exactly what he wanted to do no matter how outrageous or scandalous and didn’t let the fallout faze him a bit. This movie this clip is from is pretty good and does a good job of showing Lewis as he was.
Jerry Lee was always competing, against Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and others, he wanted to be the best !! Find the real Jerry Lee playing Live, he really was the wild one, his piano playing was amazing. Many parents did not want their teens watching these rockers, they thought they’d be corrupted 🤣💜☮️

He set the piano on fire because he was mad Chuck Berry was performing last. He did it to outshine Chuck. You have to check out some Chuck Berry also. He is a Icon. Alot of rock stars through the years were inspired by Chuck.

What's going on is that it's a movie. He's showing up Chuck Berry. He's a cocky upstart who believes he should close the show (get top billing) by virtue of having the number one record. But this is a tour and Chuck Berry was top dog at the beginning, so it's in his contract to close. Jerry Lee sets the piano on fire to ruin Chuck's set. did he do this in real life? I don't know. It's a dramatic device here, but it's certainly something he was capable of. The man was a true showman.
