    I had a 2018 model, loved the ride and many of its features but lost faith in it with its random electrical faults and poor dealer support. Swapped it out for a V-strom 1050 and love it and have peace of mind in its reliability.

    My 1290 ADS, is now 1 month in a garage with 0 km/mil.... I cant even try it since we have fog all day long and wet roads/now snow in Ljubljana. I do love the looks and cant wait till March to drive since that is the month that I used to take the previous bikes out of the winter sleep.

    Great review Sam and thanks for doing the U-ey on that fun fun giggly road. I love my MT09, loads of giggles on that too but I find myself pining for a more touring oriented machine for longer trips. I really like the utility look, subjective as you say, compared to the GS and the Multistrada so it seems I've made up my mind and won't be able to resist the 1290 sas next spring. Happy days and keep riding safely pal.

    It's one of the most impressive Bikes available today. If not the most. That's saying a lot given how most higher end road bikes are quite good these days. Waiting for the new modes to arrive in the US still. But, still torn because the 1290 and 890. I've got a Low Rider S which carries me around comfortably and still pretty sporty. So thinking an 890 would be a good meet in the middle.

    The bike has an undocumented feature: a brake assistant! When the ACC is activated, even without a speed set, it still continuously monitors the situation in front, and when it thinks that it is getting tight (slow or standing car getting close - maybe 4 meters or so), it preloads the brake. The lever is then much harder than normal, which can come as a surprise and lead to heavier (read: jerkier) braking than planned. Nevertheless, I love that the machine is taking care of me. I keep the ACC always on.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I tested this in my first ride review of the bike and it took me by surprise that it actually started braking for me! The auto-acceleration with the radar cruise, and overtaking increase in revs is really useful too!

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was going to suggest wheel balancing. The other thing I've heard that solves that is raising the forks in the triple clamps. I think mine are above 5mm above the upper triple clamp and I don't have an issue

    • @geovannieabella4537

      @@SamVBikes so what are all that you have done to eliminate the wobble? If you have it

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have it with mine but have seen people talking about it in forums. Wheel balancing, uneven handguards, raising forks and one guy said having a topbox on the back caused it for him. My front wheel gets very light and reactive at high speed but I bump the preload up to 80% on the rear which helps that

    What screen have you gone with.
    Is it stable
    ...noisy.
    Do you look through it or over it.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Beverly,
      I'm 5ft9, so around 175cm? I think. The stock screen isn't amazing for buffeting so I have added the clip on screen. With the clip on screen I still look over the screen and can ride with my visor open no issue at all. Barely any wind in my face. There is a huge amount of weather protection due to the side of the front end so will be a lot better than a naked. I have a 1500 mile review earlier on my channel which runs through a few of those bits which might be worth watching if you're interested.
      Thanks for watching and ride safe!

      Thank you! It's the 1290 Super Adventure S. They have 2 models, the S and R. S being the more road focused with electronic suspension and radar cruise. I'd assume it wouldn't be a huge amount difference in cost for servicing although I've heard BMW servicing is a pretty penny, but the intervals on this are every 9000 miles. My first 600 mile service cost me about £90 which was part of the deal I pushed, then the first service at 9.6k was around 300 if I remember correctly. I'm 14k miles in at the moment so my next one is at 18k miles. That's the valve clearance one so I'd assume around 400/500 at least.

    Do you use your bike to commute Sam? That seems quick mileage since I last saw you at BS in St Evenage

      I'd be tempted with the Gen 3 GT but this new release seemed to be more of a face-lift rather than a proper gen 3. Wonder if they will release another with radar and other bits too. Havent ridden the MultiV4 yet. Heard good things about it. 19k odd starting price for one with radar cruise.. and near enough 22k for one spec'd similar to mine!

    Hi Sam - I looked at other videos and cant see anything but how do you mount the go pro behind the display?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a GoPro sticky mount on the plastic behind the TFT, then a ram mount off that. Really clean set up isn't it!

      @@SamVBikes I must admit I had not thought of putting a GoPro there and it looks great there - I want to mount a GPS there though :) I have the Garmin XT on the KTM mount and it is wobble city :) - I don't like the Tourtech bracket as I feel it brings the unit too far forward and over the screen - I looked at the Rottweiler mount but no stock in Aus - they want way too much money to ship it - then I was watching more of your videos and went whoa hang on :) - But I don't know if the sticky mount will be strong enough - Thanks for the reply.

      Yeah its annoying! I loved that mount but I've put the Touratech mount and lockable case there now so the GoPro had to move. I need to find a way to get it back there. Wondering if I could put it above the Garmin without it looking like a tower block! Maybe I'll have to buy a 3D printer!

    How does it handle in twisties???

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Far better than it should for its size! Stick it in sport more, jack the rear preload up and it's basically an oversized superduke

  • @percusski

    What's all this stuff I keep reading about re a wobble when decelerating on these bikes, and additionally when a top box is installed?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I noticed handlebar shake too but only with a top box. Doesn't do it without that on. My Tracer 700 did exactly the same thing. Not sure if its just turbulence caused by the top box when the preload is set too low and there's not enough weight over the front wheel. I dropped the forks in the triple-clamps about 5mm and it seemed to help massively. It's also exacerbated by the heavily worn tyres too

      @@SamVBikes good to know as am thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these bikes..over all I'm guessing a trouble free bike?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes bud! I'm nearly 24k miles in and basically not an issue. Ride it almost every day!
      I stuck this message in a chat on FB of a guy asking about issues in the market. Hope that helps!
      "A few issues when they first came out as you'd expect with a new model. Seats slipping off high settings for example, but most have been resolved now. You get the odd quality issue, and of course there are the "Friday afternoon build bikes". Some dealers forget to turn on both fuel taps too after a service, so you get the odd story of bikes randomly dying like they have run out of fuel with 140mile range for example. Simple to turn back on
      I think a lot of the issues are related to ownership such as a dead battery from lack of riding, switch gear seals go from people who have a real thing for pressure washing everything etc. Not to say some don't have faults but look after it, you should be fine
      I'm around 24k miles in, nearly 2 years ownership and had nothing major. Worst thing was the mirror glass came away from the mirror backing so it rattled - KTM replaced under warranty.
      Get the odd 'preload/MTC' error if I start it before it's done it's start-up procedure etc. Nothing that stops me starting and riding the bike
      Best thing I've ever bought and still wouldn't swap it for anything"
