the ironic genius of beating himself up over an apparently inconsequentially awkward moment despite having successfully talked down and befriended robert, who was also struggling with self-deprecative feelings just moments before
@@yozora2246 Yup. Feels exactly like real life too. More seriously, it seems like the ones who are best at talking down other people and empathizing with them can be the people with the very same problems. Big Mask could help because Big Mask understood. But Big Mask too can feel the awkwardness and self-deprecation. But that's human -- we all have that to some degree -- the problem for Robert was it just got so big inside of him that he decided to go out and even hurt people too. All to try to satisfy this extreme feeling or need inside of him. The smaller, more normal awkwardness of Big Mask by contrast is a pretty good and relatable finale.
big mask's last words "I'm such an idiot" after calling Robert squid monster shows that the people who help others are sometimes going through the same thing, they help others because they cannot help themselves and I think we can all learn something from this.
Well i believe its just an extension of his speech on being hurt, you will be hurt by others no matter what and it will suck, but to be okay despite everything you need to acept yourself flaws and all. When he says "im such an idiot." Hes admitting a fault to himself and accepting it.
@@Pupal_Dugal He isn't though. He isn't stupid, not the way he acted at least. Any person that could be called stupid would've punched the squid and gained a new villain. The problem does indeed reside in the fact that therapists can't work on themselves. Certain aspects of yourself, the deeper ones, can only be pointed and healed by others, even if it mirrors your own plight almost perfectly.
It thought it would just be a comedy at first, but I'm genuinely interested by the plot of a super-hero who just tries to provide mental health help to antagonists.
the best case of a "pacifist" hero I know is Ultraman Cosmos, he finishes fights by purifying or calming them down instead of killing them, most of the time. It's only when the enemies are pure evil he goes into killing.
This is just... so cool. A hero who actually listens and tries to help a monster through his problems instead of "helping" by beating them up or saying that what they're doing is not right and then beat them up. As someone who played Undertale this kinda gives me an odd feeling, especially since I never did genocide in the game. Anyways WE NEED A SERIES.
I mean one *COULD* consider this ‘Ultraman Cosmos in a nutshell’ but in that show sometimes Cosmos is unable to purify his opponents(in fact he killed 23 kaiju and Seijin, granted he purified 25 of them, and this is only including all 65 episodes, not the 3 movies), a series where that happens could work, but I wonder what Big Mask’s finisher would be if he needs to put a foe down(sometimes that is the best thing to do)?
Naruto villain: *Tragic Backstory* Naruto: "How dare you use that as an excuse!?" ***punches them to mush*** Demon Slayer villain: "I do this cause I like it" Tanjiro: "😢 but why? There's so much love in this world.." *slash slash*
Big mask: You invented a machine that can alter people at a cellular level? You could use that to cure cancer! Robert: But I don't WANT to cure cancer! I WANT to turn people into squids!
Techinally, talking to an "enemy" to calm it down is what Undertale did. Also, movies do this quite a good amount of times as well (Since almost all the villains are humans). The only time where it wouldn't work is if it was a rampaging beast or robot or abomination with no comprehensible way of communication or understanding love.
To be fair this does the concept much better, in many works if feels like a cop out. They build up an idea of a great unreasonable monster incapable of empathy then end the conflict with a simple, „just be nice“ and it works. However in this short Maskman never attempted to fight, he sees the monster for what it truly is, a hurt man. This isn’t „talking to an enemy to calm it down“ it’s more of a exaggerated representation of the monsters we face everyday.
Imagine being a soldier being transported there to attend an urgency of a giant squid destroying the city to end watching a giant guy in strange suit and a giant octopus arguing.
Mr. Rybchynski, [or Mr. Snail, whichever you choose] I have experienced it all, I have learned that gaining immortality is a gift and a curse. I was able to experience so many things, and meet so much people; good and bad. But I see my time is almost near, the sun is soon to explode my skin feels as if it’s boiling yet I’ve felt this pain for so long that I am used it. I’m ready now, Mr. Rybchynski, take my life. [The Snail slowly taps me with its eye and I begin to fade away] Ya know, Mr. Rybchynski, I thought the deal i made would cause me to die a painful death… yet… it feels so warm, and so pleasant… what… what is this feeling? In all my years of being an immortal man, I’ve never felt such a warm and caring feeling… I see now, Mr. Rybchynski, that you weren’t a reaper, instead- you were an Angel, reminding me that life is indeed finite and death with always remain in this life, whether I be immortal or not… Yet… I still thank you Mr. Rybchynski… your job is done… [my clothes then fall to the ground.. empty and lifeless…]
Just imagine the citizens watching this. "Yeah, he's got a point." "Yeah, he should become a therapist. He really digs in to the existential problems that are key to unlocking the man behind the monster. Man, what an inspiration."
I love how authentic the argument was. In media arguements often seem to be so one-sided. In this both characters make solid points and act like real people would in a real conversation. I've witnessed so many arguments and been in so many discussions that feel so similar to the way the characters interact. Very well written.
I'd like to point out that here at around 6:40 the giant squid actually has a point about the ultraman character, I'm sure he means well of course and he's calling out the attention seeking behavior that the squid is doing but the squid does have a point that he's assuming and making statements about what he's feeling without actually asking him how he feels. It reminds me of many well meaning speakers in the internet that try to give advice to depressed folk and overing up solutions to solve it, like "you gotta believe in yourself.. Etc, etc" It's well meaning yes and there's a truth to it but the problem is not that depressed folks don't know that they need to believe in themselves it's the steps needed to get there, ultimately I feel as if it's way to simple to give a piece of good advice to a depressed person and hope that they change just because of that. I'm also sensing that the ultraman guy isn't really coming to the argument with a clear knowledge of what being depressed feels like and is going off on a more general understanding of what it is in media, the whole talk feels like a guy opening up to a semi close friend about their depression and them not really able to handle it because they lack knowledge in that area.
@@justapassingbycommenterrem5642 But its also a representative of how someone who still try even though they understand jack about the situtation is still a good person. @@kerguelen_cabbage i don't necessarily agree, thing is you can't expect a person without a psychological background or experience with depression to know what to say to peopl who are going through that, often they are trying to help but just lack the necessary knowledge to do so, it's when they think that their solution on "feeling down" Is the one that's right for you that it becomes a nuisance, but it ia right that most advice won't really help somebody get over depression immediately.
Oops sorry didn't see the make things worse part, still though good intention is good intentions and they could be making you feel worse without realising it so there's that
Ngl this would make a good series. It doesn't need to be too long. Some villains could be helped by the former ones that Big Mask already talked to. By the end of the series, the villains will all band together to remove the "big mask". Because while Big Mask was able to help them face themselves, the hero himself has been stuck wearing a facade all that time. I think that would make a good ending. The whole series could have people asking "Where is Big Mask?" and the last episode will answer "How is Big Mask?"
Such an amazing iea for a genuinely wholesome series. Masking is a word for people hiding their true depression or putting on a brave face to show the world. If they do make more parts to this. I would like this to become the point of the series.
I just love how Big Mask called himself an idiot at the end, trying to make someone feel better just to accidently ruin the mood as they leave would feel pretty awkward to me too
I would totally watch a hero who can logically deconstruct and meaningfully help supervillains realize there are better alternatives to their life and cheer them on as they get better.
@@chrisdawson1776 Talk-no-jutsu normally refers to when they talk down the most irredeemable and vile villains and manage to inexplicably talk them down despite that bu appealing to dumb stuff like their humanity/love/goodness in them. I think that does a disservice to this hero, who just used logic and facts to point out inconsistencies with the villain's motive, making them question their goal. Then he also talked to them like a person, unjudgingly, and didn't default to "YOU ARE EVIL! I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOUR MOTIVE, BUT YOU SHALL DIE, MONSTER!!!" Sometimes, talking it out can resolve and defuse problems before it escalates, and sometimes, a villain is just someone who needed someone to talk them out of it before they did something they regretted.
the characters calling themselves idiots who can't do stuff right hits hard, had a really rough day yesterday but got help. This video came at a perfect time for me, thank you for being great!
Tough day for me too. Broke a bolt on a car; ended up being one of if not the hardest bolt to remove. So for hours I was just bombarded with the sounds of everyone tying to fix my mistake, and that after I was told like 50 times “don’t do this, don’t do that” when I did something completely different. Put a real halt and killed my mood.
That ending was just perfect! It shows that everyone, even those who appear to be the strongest and wisest, have their own flaws to deal with and can commit mistakes too. No one’s perfect, and sometimes we need the help of others to feel better, get what we want and need and to overcome our own shortcomings.
This was unexpectedly helpful with some irl personal issues. Not the hero we expect, but the one we need. Good job bigmask. You literally saved another day.
Maybe he gave himself so many arms so that he could it'd be more obvious he needs a hug. The weirdest part? Minor tweaking would make this a typical Ultraman episode.
god imagine this guy talking to Vulture or Mysterio. "damn yeah those. those workplace injustices actually are pretty hard and unfair, for like everyone. if you have all this power you know, you could probably rally a bunch of demands. to your bosses."

This genuinely helped me, I see myself as Robert and it made me reflect and I realized I need to just accept myself as I am and love myself. I just wanna say thank you very much. What I thought was a parody video turned into a therapy session. Thankyouuu very much❤️
This concept would be kinda interesting Psychoperson - they fight not with muscle but with compassion. A super villain attacks the city? The hero discovers they have bpd and provides proper treatment. Invasion from outer space? This is a species' sub group secluded long enough from others to radicalize themselves and just seek justice in blaming others. A mob of Karens? They will be 'defeated' by making their leaders self aware about being a piece in a society, who will then spread the word.
Damn this really stabbed into my heart, especially with Big Mask's very last line; trying his best to prevent destruction and save many including Robert through having him acknowledge his self esteem issues, hitting on all the right points and succeeding to shed light on the true issue at hand, yet ending off the "battle" with a critical and hypocritical negative reflection of himself that reveals the very same struggle yet different and extraverted outlook he himself fights with, and tries to save others from. What a direct slap in the face that is for me. Thanks for making this.
Damn, imagine how many villains and potential villains could be stopped with just a heartfelt conversation, really makes me rethink how many enemies I killed in video games just needed someone to talk to.... anyways I'm gonna go farm for some loot now.
I'd love to see a follow-up where Big Mask is a little emotionally drained after a day of hardwork. I imagine being the world's largest therapist can be a lot for one man to handle
Bigmask talking to Magneto or Killmonger: "huh. yeah that societal problem is awful. hey but since you have all this stuff, have you ever thought you could just start like, like a more grassroots movement? with like intensive education and neighborhood self defense programs against enforcers, instead of, of empowering yourself as ruler first? like you genuinely care about all these people, you can empower them instead, it doesn't have to be you against the world first"
I've seen an animation exactly like that but I can't remember what it was! It was something like hey I'm the new dictator, but I'm going to do things differently. And he takes suggestions from the crowd about how to run the country.
Honestly, this is a great representation of my favorite comicbook moments. The end of Killing Joke, Flash reconciling with his rogues, Spider-Man and Eddie or Flash Thompson. It's something I really wish we'd see more often
I was trying to understand how to deal with people while being hurt and never falling to the idea of *"Self-isolation"* Then, Big Mask actually helped me to conclude my line of thought. This is the closest I have ever been to a *Therapy Session* and I really should use one.
You know I adore this animation and I am like 99% sure the author picked the main character to be a Ultraman Expy because on those shows they actually try to help the aliens if they aren't just mindless destroyers and even team up with would-be invaders to make the galaxy a better place.
Thank you for making this. It was exactly what I needed today. Nobody is taking about Big Mask's last line but that is brilliant and I relate hard core
For real. That feeling of successfully helping someone, yet still feeling like you didn't do it right... I'm training to be a massage therapist, and recently I've had to try and help people with proper injuries get better. They're re-booking with me, but I don't feel smart enough to do it well, even though I know I know the steps and plan I gotta follow.
Turning people into squids is actually a huge scientific achievement though. Like he shapeshifted people there's a reason that's hard holy shit do you know what we could do with that
This is what a American adaptation of Ultraman Cosmos should be,I like it a lot, great work there, and I'm also quite thankful for the lesson that video gave me,I really needed that recently
A true hero. So wholesome Instead of just helping the people of the city, he also helps the villain itself. It's a win win. The people will be safe and the villain will think of his ways and become good. Nice
I feel personally called out, and I’m genuinely curious if anyone else feels the same way. I’m always arguing against those who want to help me. Sabotaging myself, and being afraid of change, because I’m too afraid to be hurt.
Yeah…. Big Mask, a giant superhero who tries to help his foes, and a lot of times he actually gets through to them, but sometimes the best thing they can do is to put them down(but that is a FULL-ON last resort, just like how Ultraman Cosmos is the one who you would REALLY have to push to his limits for him to kill, just that in his 65 episode show he had to do that 23 times)
Huh, usually the government planes would’ve came and bombed Robert while they’re talking, or that citizens of ultra city would start cursing him. Thus proving Robert’s point.
As a superhero media fan who really appreciates when superheroes do this, I love this so much. Robert feels as fleshed out as some really good Batman villains. I guess the "except" isn't really accurate all things considered but I blame the algorithm for that
I see, the lesson is to skip all that talk and beat up the squid. That way everyone is happy and dont have to stop the traffic while there are two giants talking in the middle of the road

I love that he thinks turning people into squids is some noble thing that will help humanity. Like, it's cool... but did we really need that? Edit: having a machine that can change human’s forms into something else is cool, I think it’s funny that it’s just a squid specifically

tbh, the ability to alter an entire human to be identical to a squid while also retaining their human reasoning (from what we’ve seen from Robert) would be completely revolutionary and, with adjustments, could be applied across a lot of different fields. Like genetically altering cancer cells so they aren’t harmful anymore.
Well, I wasn't expecting to see my current struggles animated and acted out by way of a serious dialogue between an equipment based superhero and a giant squid monster named Robert, yet, here it is. the ironic genius of beating himself up over an apparently inconsequentially awkward moment despite having successfully talked down and befriended robert, who was also struggling with self-deprecative feelings just moments before
@@yozora2246 Yup.
:/
@@robertparks6115 oh, hi giant squi-
I mean, Robert
big mask's last words "I'm such an idiot" after calling Robert squid monster shows that the people who help others are sometimes going through the same thing, they help others because they cannot help themselves and I think we can all learn something from this.

Therapy-no-jutsu has always been my favorite superpower.

Just imagine the citizens watching this.
"Yeah, he's got a point."
"Yeah, he should become a therapist. He really digs in to the existential problems that are key to unlocking the man behind the monster. Man, what an inspiration."
Probably he is already a therapist, being big mask is his hobby
Wise comments.

A mob of Karens? They will be 'defeated' by making their leaders self aware about being a piece in a society, who will then spread the word.
