Breaking Joe Theisman leg not LT most "famous" play ! What is this? I was watching the game live and Taylor knew immediately it was bad and he waved for medical help . One the worst injury I saw live. Nobody wants that.
This guy used to be my neighbor on my condo building floor in Miami Beach. He's a giant but was a really nice man. Funny story: He went to college at UNC and I went to NC State. There would be times that I'd see him in the corridor while I was wearing NC State gear and we'd share quick smile about it.

Being named Rookie of The Year in 1981 was something else, but being named MVP in 1986 against all the great QBs and wide receivers and running backs was unheard off. As a Giants since 70s, he is one of there greatest ever players. In a video of ' Top 10 NFL Defences of all time' , New York Giants of 1986 was ranked around 3/4 and won NFC East and Superbowl. They had a great defense known as 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew' which dominated opposing offences and had greats like Jim Burt, Gary Reasons, Carl Banks, Leonard Marshall and others who reigned for years.
When I saw LT turn Theisman's leg into a pretzel, it still makes me shudder to see that play, I remember thinking that it was certainly a career ending injury for Theisman. I also prayed the surgeons could put it back together and not have to take it off.

I was almost 18 when we (I'm a life long Giants fan who lives near Giants stadium) drafted LT and saw every minute of every game he played (live at the stadium or local tv) and to this day am an a rabid football fan....and although admittedly partial, I've never seen anyone play with the ferocity that LT did. He would routinely tip the QB pass up in the air (trust me, they rushed their throws when he was coming for them), catch it himself, and score a TD. Saw him do this a few times. He was undeniably amazing. Our whole defense was legendary in the 80s and it culminated in our historic 1986 super bowl victory, which en route, crushed a fantastic Joe Montana led Forty Niners team, 49-3 in the NFC championship game. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love you guys. PS....that year, 1986, also was the year the NY Mets won the World series against the Boston Red Sox on the back of the historical game 6, 2 out comeback facilitated by one of the greatest (worst?) errors possibly ever committed. Would be great to see you react to those highlights somtime!

Patriots coach (best coach) Bill Belichick said that the best player he ever had/coached was Lawrence Taylor. And not sure if it was true but Joe Theismann (the terrible leg injury) had his legs insured by Lloyd's of London. He never played again. They don't like to even show it.

Rudy Tomjanovich the center drank beer and smoked cigarettes while sitting on the bench. I wont say the players name but he snorted Coke on a regular basis during a game. I remember finding a Coke spoon in his locker and taking it to my Dad and him telling me to never ever mention what I found. I didnt really know what it was at the time since I was ten but I obviously figured it out a few years later as I got older.

They mentioned a point in the video where the opponent changed their play to get a cheap shot on him, but it only made him more angry. Lawrence Taylor actually changed how offenses blocked/formations they used. A single player caused teams to revolutionize how they play because he was so dominant. Although I must say that as much as I loved him as a player -- off the field involved many issues. Besides the drug use he also had an incident with an underage girl (paying her $$ for uh...services) and has had many issues of drinking and driving and getting into accidents. Long story short, he's had many issues, but in terms of what he did on the field he probably had the biggest overall impact on the defensive side of the ball in history.
Millie should check out the Women's Football Association or if she's feeling exhibitionistic, the Legends Football League. Although, I don't think Mr. Beesley would appreciate the uniform of the latter league.

He changed the game single-handedly -- the left tackle on the offensive line guarding the QB's blindside was no longer "just-a-guy" contract after his play. Sacks became an official statistic because of him alone. The only player who should have on NFL MVP was JJ Watt back in 2014, but that's a story for a different day.

It's an unusual polar view, Lawrence Taylor and Walter Payton are a couple of my favorite players. They were both great but very different in mindset.
