This was a great interview! I think it's better for "Schools" of astrology to have their own system of certification and all schools have a network of reviewing their peers, based on the different branches. etc.
Thank you both so much! The point about when and where astrology is popular vs hidden being related to the amount of stability and sense of control people have within their cultures is well taken. I've lived in CA, the UK and Sweden. Guess which one has the most interest in astrology in my experience? CA of course, followed by the UK. Sweden is last. Up to now, Sweden has been a very stable and secure nation.
What a lovely find on the toob. So fascinating to hear the Q and A. Educational and insightful. I do not know you Mychal, but I met Demetra in the mid 80s in Oregon, and had a reading with her. My mum edited a book or hers or two, one with Douglas Bloch in that time. HI Demetra! Anyhow, I am just an long time Astro fan and student.... and use it when need arises. I still have the old blue cover Asteroid Goddesses book, actually my probably 3rd copy through wear and tear.... . Regarding professional accreditation, I would highly advise against it. I have been to maybe 8 or 10 Astrologers in my life, and though they may have belonged to a professional body, I do not believe any one of them was 'Accredited'. (OOPS, I just checked and Edith Hathoway did have some Accreditations... in Jyothish...). John Jenkins was another one, my friend said he was great, so I went. Then another one was traveling through and I signed up. She let me Yak for 5-6 minutes while she did her manual work up with her ephemeris there on the floor. She was excellent, and I never saw her again (her name escapes me now 30 years later). Word of mouth is best. The profession will get watered down and diluted through 'Regulation'. I have had several certifications in my life, and a post grad degree, and it means nothing in relation to how well I performed my job (health care field). As Demetra stated clearly that in this time, when folks see that Astrology is entertaining and superstitious, that the real deep astrologers can get down to it (unhindered). Cheers, J

Perhaps the astrology conferences could provide lists of "recognized or reputable astrologers in their respective fields" People would still be free to choose and practice but their would at least be a source for reputable astrologers available to those who seek that information, even if incomplete.
