We have the Harbor Breeze "Sail Stream" model (model #40048), which is a bit different, but similar. I've pushed as hard as I can without breaking it, and it WILL NOT COME OUT. Can't find ANYTHING on my particular model, and I need to change the bulb.

Great idea but my husband still could not make the dome budge. That is, until he thought about adding heat to the system. He hooked up an extension cord to our blow dryer and heated the rim outside the dome. Thirty seconds later, the dome easily moved with a slight pressure and twist. We now have a brightly lit room from a cost-saving LED bulb.

Didn't work with mine, but I found out that all I had to do was loosen the three screws in the base that was holding the dome in and voila! It came off easily and I replaced the bulb, but the dome back on and tightened the three screws to keep the dome in place!

Why are these fans so complicated and not easy to replace, at least if you are a first timer with these. I wanted to replace the light bulb inside the dome and had a really tough time loosening the dome and followed these same instructions which looked fairly straightforward to me. But it was not easy, and then i gave up and sat on the bed... Wow and to my surprise fell right on the hard wooden portion of my bed and broke. Just gave me the feeling of been Newton (in a dumb way :) ) ... Does anyone know where exactly i can get a replacement of that part. I tried Amazon, Lowes and Home Depot but this fan is so ancient and stubborn that i couldn't find one. The fan itself works fine so i dont think i need to replace the whole fan itself. Thanks, in adv.

Thank you! We watched the other one first and I was like, “no, there’s an easier way”. Our light went out within the first month of moving into our brand new home. Called an electrician, and even when he was here we had to look it up on TH-cam. So watching that other video I remembered it wasn’t that complicated, just couldn’t remember what we did, lol. I seriously just started a new playlist called “Home Help” and you’re the first video so that I never have to look for this crap again. Such a shit design though. We didn’t choose the fans, and if we ever replace them (which technically he ordered an exact replacement from the company instead of getting a new bulb), but if WE replace them, I’m definitely going for something else!!! Nothing that simple should be that complicated. I’m low key irritated bc every light in my house is LED flat on my ceiling and the electrician said he gets so many calls to change them out bc they’re so difficult. Same with the fan, my laundry room light went out in the first month too. They immediately lost their appeal to me at that point!

That didn't work for me. The duck tape fix didn't either. I ended up using a rubber mallet and, ever so gently, tapped around the edge of the glass dome. This loosened it so I could twist the dome off.

1 year later - still helpful video. I have owned my place for over 3 years and every time the light blows it's a whole process. The last time it blew was a week ago. Couldn't get it to open on 3 different occasions - 3 different days until I was like fine - you tube it, again. I saw that same duct tape video - started the whole process was like this doesn't work. Your video came on right afterwards and you said the most important thing - Grasp The Concept - the cylinder piece simply cannot spin. It literally came off just as easily as in your video. Big help for certain.

Some fans have little metal screws in that silver part. If you just unscrew them slightly it releases the dome. To put it back in is just the reverse. Start with one screw almost all the way screwed to get one side set in, then screw the rest in once the dome is on place
