Fly Fishing North Branch of Potomac River: Float Trip with PJ Daley

I had the chance to do a float trip, after TWO cancellations due to rain in 2018. PJ Daley, from Savage River Angler, who is a great guy and awesome angler, took me out on the North Branch of the Potomac. We chased wild and stocked trout. I caught FIVE golden trout, and about a half dozen or more rainbows, while missing one brown right at the boat. I must have hooked and lost two dozen fish. It was an awesome day, but could have been epic! If you ever get a chance to float, take advantage of it, very cool and different way of approaching trout and reading water.Hope you enjoy this quick video with my experience!

Been wanting to go up to the north branch of Potomac! Looks like some absolute gorgeous water with some hard fighting trout!🎣🎣💯💯🐟🐟 great video once again Mike! Nothing like going after them trout in big water! A few weeks ago when I went to fish the Lehigh river with Nick Raftas, I couldn’t believe how much them trout kept making them huge runs! Tight Lining MD thank you so much Mike!!! I got quite the banger in store for my 1,000 subscriber special! I did ok on the Lehigh. Sadly what happened was overnight they lowered the discharge from the dam, which really put the fish off the bite 😭 we hooked into some nice fish though and got some great footage!!! I really want to make another run at it maybe this coming spring! I know when the fish are really biting in that river the bite never ends! Nick worked his butt off to get us on some fish, but eventually we did get into em right at the end! But that’s not the video for my 1,000 sub special, got one insane video from my wild bow stream! I had the best day I’ve had in forever, Including breaking 20 plus inches on a wild fish for the first time ever! Caught at least 15 bows, and got 2 hours of footage to work with 😭 going to really take my time and make this video really good. I may have to separate it into 3 parts! The 20 plusser took 8 mins to bring to the net 😂😂😂.

That's awesome you have fished with him. Such a stand up guy. When I basically knew NOTHING about fly fishing, he had the patience to wade fish the lower, upper Savage, and Cassleman with me. Love spending time on the river with him, and hope to do so again some time in the future!

Hey buddy. Thanks for watching and commenting. I gotta check out your newest and that interview. Sounds like an awesome project. Can I assume you are floating the White River? I know Joe Hunphreys floats in that general area and in his documentary he chased a 30” plus fish and likely had hooked one twice. Just such a hard thing to complete with a beast like that on a fly rod. Good luck when you go, thanks as always for the support. Get back to WV, the mountains are calling! And I want to fish with you lol
Tight Lining MD yeah man I am floating the white. I’ve actually had it planned for a bit, should be fun. MAYBE I can get lucky and hook one of the 30 inchers. And I’ll be up in WV for thanksgiving but not sure if I’ll get much fishing done.

The rain has been bad in 2020 already making the creeks and rivers to high to fish. Getting vids out has been a challenge. Tight lines from BFG
I haven't checked the levels out there yet this year. That is sad to hear, will make spring difficult potentially. However, not much snow pack, compared to usual, so the run off may be less. That means warms water temps earlier in the year potentially, then bugs a big earlier too. Unreal how warm the winter was here in Central MD. 1.5' of snow, what a joke! Wish I had more time to fish and make vids. Just swamped, but the free time is coming! Just gotta make it a couple more weeks. Tight lines as well guys, thanks for checking in!

Appreciate you watching. Floating was a lot of fun. Super hard at times. When you are going through fast pocket water and rapid areas that have soft spots it’s tough to hit spot and hook a fish. Wish I got better film of this trip but didn’t want to infringe in my guide or focus on filming and forget to just enjoy fishing 😎. Best of luck with your upcoming trip. I’m sure it will be a success!
@@tightliningmd ...the video I will release.. probably sometime this winter ...is a float trip from this past summer on the Beaverhead in Montana. Heading south next week. Planning on doing some fishing with my son. I have not fished in a good while. Happy Thanksgiving!

I could definitely do that. Honestly I want to do a bunch of tutorials/segments in like two min clips of pieces of advice and strategy. Biggest obstacle is making sure I get film of close shot of water, views with me from behind, and getting it mic’d up. I will definitely look into doing one soon before the bite goes wya down for winter. Thanks for suggesting!
