    Thank you for taking the time. Renovated a cheap Suntour front fork that didn't even have real nuts on the bottom. No room for a polygrip, no hex, nothing. I had to WELD on real nuts on top of the round/blank ones just to get them off and replace them... If you get stuck at this without a welder, drilling a hole in the side of the round/blank/factory nuts might do it (which you then use to turn them). Careful not to damage the threads of the bolts. If your suspension is top-grade, a lint-free cloth is beneficial, most shocks take 30cc's of oil in each tube. Purpose-made oil is great, but for an old or cheap fork regular car motor oil works too. I found a bottle cleaner brush does great for cleaning the inside of tubes. All the best to you and happy tinkering.

    i really liked the video and i really want to see more complicated forks that aren't working fixed by you. i would like to see a more "in depth" video about the basic mechanics for a rebound or a high speed compression cartridge. I would loved for example to see in this video that rebound cartridge opened and explained from top to bottom and then reassembled.
    You have the basic videos for the "basics in how to fix a bike" but it will be awesome if you can show us how to fix a more technological advanced bike (like a superior suspension cartridge)
    Keep up the great work, i love your channel!

    just did the same service on the exact same bike and fork...lol. In my case the hydraulic cartridge was locked out and the adjustment knob didnt do anything...I probably could have just removed the adjustment knob and reset it, but went ahead with the full regrease. I was wondering....have you ever taken apart one of those hydraulic cartridges? it looks possible with the nut at top. I didnt want to risk not being able to put it back together, but wondering what replacing the fluid would do. RST website just shows a replacement with new as part of the service. Would love to see a video of you taking one apart. thanks again.

    Hey RJ, love your videos mate! I have seen all your videos about these rst forks and i have that problem with the spinning bolt. The problem is that I have tried everything you mentioned at your videos exept the impact driver cause i dont have one! Nothing seems to work... Any ideas for unscrew that bolt???? I am working on an old bike (but on good condition) and it doesn't really worth a new fork. Any advice would be much appreciated!!

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can get the stack out, I think the bolt in the bottom (see @ 10:34) may have a hex fitting that you can grabe from the inside the tube with a long extension.

    I've always used a ratchet strap for compressing forks. Hmm, looking at the parts when you pulled it apart, is the cartridge serviceable (needing periodic fluid changes)? Just wondering if those are still friction/MCU damped or are actually hydraulically damped (I know RST makes both styles, although the friction damped ones are more common).

    What can I do if those screws down the fork spin freely even if i compress the springs? The suspension is a Zoom with double crown, springs without blocking and 180 mm of travel. Please help me, your videos have been really helpful for me 👌

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get a really long allen wrench (4, 5, or 6mm), you might be able to take out the stacks and reach down and the other part to keep it from turning. An impact driver combined with compression might work.

    Can anyone tell me how to possibly fix my bike? I bought a full suspension mtb and got it last summer. I assembled everything and took it for a test ride. I was really upset because both the front suspension and rear suspension were squeaking. I went to the store and bought some lubricant and sprayed it on the rear and the front suspension. The rear suspension was fine forever after this but the front suspension was not. I later took it apart greased it and put it back together. It was fine for a while but it later came back I repeated this 3 or 4 times since I bought it last year, but the squeak just keeps coming back and its soooooo annoying. My front fork is a sr suntour m3030. Thanks.
