  • THIS is Oklahoma?! Growing up we never knew that Oklahoma has mountains and SURPRISE, there are not only mountains, but lots of other beautiful scenery! We spent a few days road tripping across the southern part of the state, checking out some of its best nature spots, including the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Turner Falls, the Talimena National Scenic Byway, and Beaver Bend State Park. It was a blast and completely blew us away!

Oklahoma is a beautiful state :) When my hubs told me he accepted a job in the Tulsa area in 2018 I was like "WHY"? But this state has become home and we love it...best move ever. We frequent places like the Wichitas and in 2022 made it our goal to visit every county....it hasn't disappointed us at all. This year has been AMAZING! This state has everything from desert dunes, mountain hikes, rivers to float all summer, natural cold springs, and fields that go on for miles. The only thing it is missing is the ocean :)

My wife and I have wonderful memories of Oklahoma. I was stationed at Fort Sill from '89-'92 and lived in Lawton. As two 19 year olds from south Louisiana, we were super excited for the Witchita Mountains. My first experience seeing mountains. We loved Mt Scout and driving to the summit after a stop at Braum's for a waffle cone. We made a reminiscing trip a few years ago with our son to show him. Oklahoma is near and dear to our hearts. They haven't even seen it all on Oklahoma lol. Salt Lake of the plains in jet Oklahoma, the alabaster caverns sp near freedom, ok. The gloss mountain sp north of fairview,ok the grand lake area in NE OKLA. lake Eufaula in Eufaula,ok. Little Italy area in Krebs,ok area where Reba is from... little Sahara sp in waynoka,ok ....quartz mountain north of Altus,ok...Tallgrass prairie preserve... where the bison live in Osage Co. West of Bartlesville where Phillips 66 started. And our highest peak, black Mesa peak elev. 4973 in the panhandle north of kenton,ok... and is the only town of the state that's mountain time..
Most Oklahomans don't know we have 2 time zones lol. Plus alot of quirky things in-between like the tallest and biggest leg lamp off the movie a Christmas story. Or a resort town called Carlton landing south of Eufaula, which is a copied town from Florida from a movie called the truman show with Jim Carrey. Plus we have a pretty good amount of Amish communities as well... they can cook lol. And probably more likely the best for rt.66, Oklahoma is going to celebrate its 100th birthday of route 66 in 2026..

As a Native Oklahoman who has been blessed to live in and visit other states and see so many beautiful places in my travels. I can honestly say that Oklahoma can rival everyone in the views, scenic spots, delicious places to eat, amazing people, historical locations, awesome museums, beautiful national parks across the state and has so much to offer not only in the big cities and towns but in the smaller towns and rural areas. We have something for everyone...well except the ocean but we do have several large lakes to swim and boat in. Wonderful job showcasing the southern part of Oklahoma. If you can check out the northern part of the state since it's equally beautiful and unique.

@@atmosphericgaia Don't know where you are from but I never said living here and enjoying it was for the weak. To live here you have to have a strong heart, enduring will and the ability to see the beauty of the land. The government thought it was useless so designated it as Indian Territory and then decided when it was proven a large territory with lots of potential it was taken in the vast majority from the Tribes it had been given to originally leaving the Tribes on considerably smaller reservations, which is just another set of treaties broken by the government in regards to the Native Americans. The land taken was then set up and given away in land runs to others who were willing to participate in them, of which my great-grandparents and great-uncles were. My great-grandmother was a descendant of a Cherokee mother who died on the Trail of Tears, leaving behind a baby who was adopted by a white family in the foothills of Kentucky. My family was able to settle and raise 13 kids on their land and did so rather successfully. Yes, Oklahoma has a lot of issues however having traveled around the lower 48 quite a bit and meeting a vast number of people I personally think you cannot find a nicer set of people. We appreciate and value everything our state has to offer without being blind to the pitfalls that come with living here. I wonder what state doesn't have toll roads, endless construction on said roads, education issues, health issues and so on? Regarding the road construction we have two major interstates that are extremely heavily traveled, multiple secondary federal and state highways as well as all the other roads we all travel constantly in normal vehicles. However we also have ranchers and farmers who constantly have tractors, semi trucks for livestock hauling, hay equipment and harvesting equipment which all causes constant damage to the roads. Look at other states that are agriculture states and their road conditions and how much the federal government gives Oklahoma for maintaining the roads. How long have you lived in Oklahoma for you to have such a hate for the state? Have you even bothered to do any sight seeing in the state? No we don't have a bunch of glitz and glamour that sparkles for endless entertainment but we do have loads of natural beauty and beautiful landscapes throughout the state. I don't know what to think of someone who only sees the negative in a place.

Lots of beauty to be had in Oklahoma! Lots of outdoor activities to participate in! A little bit of everything really. Many saying the only thing Oklahoma doesn't have is the ocean, BUT if you find a good vista overlooking miles of tall grasses or wheat fields on a breezy day, it does mimic waves on the ocean! Bonus, if you catch it at sunset!

Fantastic job of showcasing an area of a "fly-over" state. You've shown things that I never knew existed. Like you, Kathryn, I've always assumed that Oklahoma was "flat and a dust bowl" with not much to really see. Now I know I'm wrong. Glad you're taking a break and until next time... Travel safe.

Loving this Midwest series y'all are having! As a native Texan who loves the west and east coast, I am learning to appreciate the Midwest a lot more from your guys' videos! I visited Nebraska last year and was excited to see the places y'all highlighted and it made me want to go back. And this Thanksgiving break, my family visited Kansas for the first time to see extended family and the video was perfect because we got to show them some spots you guys recommend and had a lot of fun! Depending on which part of the state you visit many of us including myself consider Oklahoma a Southern state and not a Midwestern state. Oklahoma is below the Mason Dixon line and we’re heavily influenced by Texas and a wide variety of other nearby cultures.

Thank You for yet another amazing tour of my former home state of Oklahoma. I am a Northern Californian for decades but grew up in Lawton, OK - near the beautiful Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. These southern Oklahoma scenic spots I've been to and they will definitely surprise out of state visitors. Northern California has tremendous scenic areas - but Oklahoma is highly underrated with it's diversity of flora an fauna. I love the feel of Oklahoma as I always feel something special when I see the beauty of this state. Keep up the great series and informing people of the beauty of Oklahoma!
