Thank you everyone for the amazing comments. A few folks have asked about the recipe for the meal I cooked: Mini Chicken Pot Pies ★★★★★ Ingredients: 1 cup of cooked chicken breasts diced OR 2 cans cooked chicken 1/2 can cream of chicken soup 1/2 cup frozen mixed veggies 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 teaspoon of dried thyme 1 teaspoon of dried basil 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt 1 (10 oz) cans Pillsbury biscuits (you only need 6 of the biscuits) Directions: In a bowl, combine the cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, frozen veggies, cheese, herbs and spices. Open the biscuits and use your fingers to gently press them into flat disks. (This will make it easier for you to push them up the sides of the muffin pan.) Lightly grease a muffin tin and place the Pillsbury biscuits into each cup, pressing into the bottom and up the sides. (Note: if using a silicone muffin mold, you do not need to grease.) Evenly spoon the pot pie mixture into each biscuit cup. Sprinkle a little extra shredded cheese on top if you’d like (optional). Cover the Omnia and bake over low heat for about 20 minutes, checking periodically to ensure they do not burn. (When the biscuits are golden brown, they’re done.) Let rest for about 3 minutes and dig in!
The storms from the last couple of years have been heavy, two hurricanes came up from Baja after the La Nina in the Pacific Ocean broke and began its switch to El Nino. They expect a full winter of El Nino storms starting soon with lots of rain coming, we shall see.
I love how you kept the encounter with the yellow jackets in the final cut! There’s a tendency to over romanticize these adventures and polish them up, but real life isn’t perfect! Sometimes you get a swarm of yellow jackets after your sammich 😂
As I dig deeper into the back history of your TH-cam videos your success and the appreciation shown to you by the overlanding community is well deserved. Your videos are always inviting and informative making them easy to follow along with and enjoy. Safe travels and keep doing what you’re doing!
Make some beeswax cups using lids and keep a gallon of water to fill those beeswax cups - place them away from your camp kitchen as a peace offering. Beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Every video just makes me me more want to start overlanding in lieu of camping in the motorhome. Thank you for recording your fun trips. I look forward to watching them all the time.
There’s just something about cooking and eating outdoors that just adds so much to the experience. Like, normally I wouldn’t care about how to make pot pie. But because here you are, out in the wilderness and with all your gear and self-sufficient, I’m intrigued by it. And for some reason food just tastes so good after being out all day on a trail. Maybe because you realize what a blessing it is to have it and something primordial about the replenishment? Idk. But great job on the pot pies! They looked delicious! I told my wife I know how to make pot pies now because of Trail recon! 😂
You are the Best Brad. I will study the info and so appreciate you sharing. We are just two gals working hard at staying safe on the road. Thanks so much for your reply and we really enjoy all your videos. Thanks again Laurie
In the back country I have done geology research and hunted solo for years when young and enjoyed the solitude. Since being a family man have only gone with wife, kids and son for many years. Now as an older guy I still Jeep with the wife and clubs groups. However now with Brad's cool solos I have new interest in pre-run club trips solo. Be doing the Black Rock in Nevada soon... solo. Thanks Brad you are an inspiration.
Thank you! I love learning bout the geology of the places I visit... something I really need to take a deeper dive into . So many places in Nevada to explore, I need to spend more time up there.
I like solo trips. But no matter how great the adventure I always miss my wife. We are so lucky to have hundreds of miles of trails here in SoCal. I really enjoy your professional videos. Thanks Brad(and of course your better half)!
Brad, excellent video and very informative. Would you ever consider making a "behind the scenes" video of trail recon? Was thinking of what exactly you do to plan, film, edit and publish one of your trail expeditions? I've been a sub since your early days in the channel and really enjoy how much your passion and experience had progressed with sharing them with the rest of the world. Just thought it would be a cool to do a "making of" video. Thanks for all you do for the off road community and letting us escape for a bit during our normal day to day 😀
Thank you! I did a video a while back about how I film my adventures, but perhaps I could revisit doing something a little more in-depth. th-cam.com/video/GD3Pq_yP3Mk/w-d-xo.html
Enjoyed the ride along. Had a tip for you… when cooking (Boy Scout trick) if you put a thin coat of dish soap on the bottom of the pans before use... makes it a lot easier on clean up.
Loving these new videos you’ve been doing. I’m constantly looking up local trails on TH-cam to get a sense of how difficult they are, if they have campsites on them, how long they’ll take, etc. And although there are many smaller TH-camrs in the SoCal area that have been helpful as well. You do it much better in my opinion. Please keep these coming. Additionally, I’ve started going to National Parks with my family and enjoy off-roading while there. We did Point Sublime at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon 3 months ago and are planning on going to Sequoia, Kings Canyon, & possibly Yosemite next year. Would love to see you do some trails at National Parks as well.
Dinner looked great and the just getting away for a day seems like heaven. All of us out here that don't get to do that, thank you for taking us along for the views! Still love that 392.
Love these type of videos. Just a man and his jeep camping in the middle of nowhere. Just got back from the north country of the Adirondacks doing the same thing. Lows in the 40's and the northern lights dancing. Leaves just about at peak. So awesome.
One of the best, a gem of a trail recon episode. Always love the big adventures, but this type of exploring I can relate to. Looks like a good time, will be checking out the omnia
I was born and raised in San Bernadino. I have been living in Washington state since 1998. I plan on staying down there during the summers in my Hummer H3 and explore the San Bernadino mountains and Mojave dessert. Id really like to join an overland club down there. Great video i enjoy watching people enjoy off road adventuring!!
Scouting trails and campsites is an adventure unto itself. It is always fun finding locations that you can share with a group of others sometime, or just enjoy by yourself. Another Regena recipe!! WOO HOO!! BONUS!!! Until next time... Travel safe.
This video brought back good memories of when my dad would take our family camping. Like this video, we would drive until finding a great camp site and then spend a few days exploring the area. A lot of good memories. I really enjoyed the video. You do a great job Brad 👏 👍 👍
Brad, I love your videos! Well made, lots of good hints and tips. Well, for us in Germany, not even a farming gravel track is legal to ride. Therefore, we often go to Italy, France or Spain..... And there one of your rules are very important: make every place you stay a better one! .. and always be polite to everybody
Another great video Brad! I'm so excited to get our X3 that I've been looking for videos of you and yours. Watching your videos with the X3 are making me even more confident that we made the right decision in our purchase. I also switched up my vehicle purchase from a SD Tremor to a Bronco Badlands and it looks like it will be a great pairing after watching this video. I'm going to have to share this video with my wife, I think she'll like how you organize your spices and I know she'll love the camp oven and pot pie recipe
Nice! I’ve stayed in that spot a few times. I personally think it’s the best spot on 2N02. Shade, plenty of room, and a nice overlook of the mountain. Great find!
Burns Canyon is fun. Did that road 4 weeks ago, those large boulders you passed were blocking the road. We had to turn around as did not want to do Heartbreak to get around the blockage. And I really love your Patriot trailer.
14:39 Thanks for all of the great content, I really dig it! ..especially when you are out trekking in my backyard! (I’m in Yucca Valley) I was wondering, have you ever climbed to the peak of Tip Top Mountain? The trail for it begins just northeast of this area (14:39.) If you haven’t, I would highly recommend it. A tad challenging in a couple of spots, but GREAT views of Johnson Valley and you can also see Baldwin lake as well. Not quite a 360 degree view, but close. Thanks again for your videos and the tons of inspiration you give all of us viewers!
I enjoy your videos a lot as they provide inspiration for the kind of exploring and camping I hope to do in the not too distant future. Your low-key, down-to-earth approach really resonates with me and I will be checking out your website for gear suggestions when I get into a position to begin gearing up for exploring. Thanks for sharing.
Aside from your easy to listen to narrative voice, your great editing skills and sharing of trails you enjoy, I particularly like all the various camera angles you video, especially shots of the undercarriage of the 392, JK, the Patriot camper and drone footage!. 👍
good idea to add some yellow jacket traps to the gear. they aren't just looking for moisture, they want to eat the meat too. some people call them "meat bees". they'll strip a carcass to the bone. they can totally ruin a good camping spot. if you hang a few of those bait bags around the perimeter it helps a lot
Grate video thanks for it you have fun in those trails you have a full kitchen on your trailer I hope I can do those trails hope 1 day make the time thanks again
I had to smoke a yote up there once bout 15 years ago. Wouldn’t take the hint and he was gettin nasty. Also had run ins with 2 legged varmints up there too. Stay safe.
We use Pillsbury Pie Crust for our Chicken Pot Pies I have 4 small round Pyrex dishes that I can make four meals out of the 2 round pie crusts....But those sure did look Yummy Brad and Regina might've to try them out one night for supper !!!
I've thought about using pie crusts or even the crescent roll sheets, but I'd need to cut them out into circles. Granted, I'm sure it wouldn't be that much extra effort, but what I like about the biscuits is that they're already the right shape, all I have to do is flatten them out a bit. This meal is all about easy!
@@regenakowitz I just use our Corningware 6" dish and lightly push it into the dough crust that gives me the perfect circle and with the leftover I rollout and make another set. But either they are yummy !!!
Based on success of dinner......looks like Mrs TrailRecon will be enjoying some relax time on the next trip. You may have worked your way into top chef for future trips.....
2N07Y is a fun trail. I have only run it west to east headed to Pappy and Harriets. The campsite you stopped at in the video at 17:45 I have stayed at before in the wintertime, it's a great spot
Hey Brad, I am new to all of this and for the past year watched many overland video's. I enjoy yours very much. Not only fun to watch but always informative. I live in Wickenburg, AZ I have seen that you have passed through here.
Hi Brad . Sorry. That I missed a quite few of your adventures lately, but I am trying to save them up to watch when there cool winter day and nights when I can, t get out camping 🏕️in the UK . Still love your videos thank you for keep on making great content.P.S just let your your beloved do the cooking 😅
Some states and forests are better than others. Here near me in Washington, spots are few and far between. It's difficult to find long trails that connect so you can stay on dirt. Many offshoot forest roads have no turn-arounds, no pull-out, and tons of brush over growing. Colorado on the other hand.. I could probably cross most of it entirely on dirt and find spots almost every mile at the very least. Montana seems to be somewhere in the middle of the two with the added benefit of Grizzlies.
Camped burns canyon many many times and not once camped the same site twice its beautifull easily passable with my 2004 prerunner long bed not 4x4 lots of old mines to watch for
That trailer follows the jeep like those yellow jackets followed you🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘. On another note I noticed that you don't turn of the auto off ..... I hate that thing so much
We carry an extra gallon of water in an old milk jug for the bees / yellow jackets. Pour some out on the ground away from camp. Big question, I see you are using an iPad, what size and what map app are you using? I really need to get something like that for my rig.
Great video! I recently did that loop you wanted to do 2N70Y it’s a great trail not bad at all I did it in my XJ on 31s open diffs. A Silverado 4x4 and a Fj cruiser 2wd rear locker also made it through no problem. There is one area with a boulder leaning in to the road that got tight with the bigger rigs, but other than that it was a great trail.
Love your channel and vibe the content give. Very cool Jeep. What size tire and wheels do you run and at what offset? I almost checked all your 392 videos and couldn’t find those details. Thank you.

I enjoyed your trip and will definitely give those chicken pies a try. In cruising TH-cam, I saw another overlander manufacturer called 27North. This might be an opportunity for you to explore as an ambassador for them by taking their rigs on demo or test over landing trips.
We have been watching your channel for sometime and really enjoy all the tips you share. Sometimes we wish we owned a Jeep. I retired from Toyota Corporation a few years ago. Your son made a great choice buying a Tacoma. We live in Huntington Beach and take our Lance Travel Trailer to the Sierra many times throughout the year. My question is how do you navigate the trails? The last thing I want to do is drive to a dead end while towing. Can you share please? Thank you so much. Laurie Snyder
I use a combination of Gaia GPS, Google maps, paper maps, and TrailsOffroad (a website and an app). I use Google maps, regular maps, and TrailsOffroad when I'm planning, and mark things up in Gaia. I make sure to download everything in Gaia and use that on the trail since it works without cell reception.

I drive a Camaro ss and watching your content is making me wanting to trade it in for a jeep 😂 awesome content new subscriber here 👋👍🏼
There might not be a better feeling than scouting all day in your rig and then knowing you have just found the perfect campsite. Such a great payoff.

Thank you Brad I'm watching this one next to this misses and we both agree next camping trip we are doing that meal. Yuuumy
It was really easy... I mean if I can make it anyone can!
I’ve unsubscribed from so many overland channels in the last couple of years but I still look forward to these. Keep it up, Brad!
Wow, thank you so much! That really means a lot!
I'll tell you now, if I'm ever driving these back trails and see you cooking, I'm inviting myself to join you. Thanks for the getaway.
Hopefully it's not a instant ramen night! 😂

For Omnia cooking, always preferable to heat the bottom steel ring on high by itself for a few minutes before setting the pot on top.
Miss seeing Regina, but can't wait to try the recipe!
Awww...thank you! Brad was out having fun while I was dealing with pest control (gophers) and upholstery cleaners!

A nice drive and the food looks good. You guys always eat good out on the trail.

Thank you for being a long time follower!
Awesome video ❤❤
Camped burns canyon many many times and not once camped the same site twice its beautifull easily passable with my 2004 prerunner long bed not 4x4 lots of old mines to watch for
That trailer follows the jeep like those yellow jackets followed you🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘.
On another note I noticed that you don't turn of the auto off ..... I hate that thing so much
LOL! Those yellow jackets were nuts!
Great video Brad. Ain’t gonna lie, I’m a picky eater and the food looked good.
We carry an extra gallon of water in an old milk jug for the bees / yellow jackets. Pour some out on the ground away from camp. Big question, I see you are using an iPad, what size and what map app are you using? I really need to get something like that for my rig.
I picked up those XPO gear side hatches.
Been looking for those for years.
You'll love them! I do!
Ok, I'm doing it soon. Thanks for the intel!
Amezing video
Thank you!
What happened to the Garmin Overlander you were using. Did you do a review on that?
It's been sitting on the shelf for a while, just prefer my iPad.
Love your channel and vibe the content give. Very cool
Jeep. What size tire and wheels do you run and at what offset? I almost checked all your 392 videos and couldn’t find those details. Thank you.
True trail recon with the drone. Another great video. Love the content as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Would Regina mind sharing her recipe?
Mini Chicken Pot Pies
★★★★★
Ingredients:
1 cup of cooked chicken breasts diced OR 2 cans cooked chicken
1/2 can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup frozen mixed veggies
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon of dried thyme
1 teaspoon of dried basil
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 (10 oz) cans Pillsbury biscuits (you only need 6 of the biscuits)
Directions:
In a bowl, combine the cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, frozen veggies, cheese, herbs and spices.
Open the biscuits and use your fingers to gently press them into flat disks. (This will make it easier for you to push them up the sides of the muffin pan.)
Lightly grease a muffin tin and place the Pillsbury biscuits into each cup, pressing into the bottom and up the sides. (Note: if using a silicone muffin mold, you do not need to grease.)
Evenly spoon the pot pie mixture into each biscuit cup.
Sprinkle a little extra shredded cheese on top if you’d like (optional).
Cover the Omnia and bake over low heat for about 20 minutes, checking periodically to ensure they do not burn. (When the biscuits are golden brown, they’re done.)
Let rest for about 3 minutes and dig in!
Regina needs to release a trail Cook book
Making me want to go explore the Payson Prescott area's see what I can find out here.
I enjoyed your trip and will definitely give those chicken pies a try. In cruising TH-cam, I saw another overlander manufacturer called 27North. This might be an opportunity for you to explore as an ambassador for them by taking their rigs on demo or test over landing trips.
monster tent wow
Plenty of room for Regena to hunker down inside if needed.
The hurricane dumped a lot of rain. That could be the reason it’s rougher than you remember !
Oh ya, that rain really did a number on many of the trail around here.

You listen to Hair Nation when by yourself and The Bridge when you with Regina! 😂
I love Hair Nation too, and Classic Rewind! But I'm more of an Alt Nation and 1st Wave kind of gal! 😉
Here is a hidden gem to check out, Tassi Ranch and Grand Gulch Copper Mine. It’s about 50 miles from Whittier Lookout.
Thank you, I'll have to add that to my list!
