  • The Italian city of Perugia has found an ingenious solution to the traffic problems: From the stadium car park - which would be empty for most of the week - the Minimetro will take you directly to the center of the historic old town. Durig daytime it is forbidden to go there by car. The line of Minimetrò has a total length of 4 km and was inaugurated on the 29th of January 2008, the day of Saint Costanzo of Perugia, one of the three patron saints of Perugia. The Minimetro, built by Leitner AG, is a "people mover" costing just under 100 million Euros. On the open track, the vehicles are pulled through an endlessly circulating steel cable. In the stops, the gondolas are released from the rope operation and are slowed down or accelerated by rubber wheels mounted on the side of the road.
