- Footage recorded by Brett Willyard, a citizen of Cannon Beach, Oregon.
This video showcases two male sea otters on the northern Oregon coast on June 8th, 2024. They have been spotted there again on June 28th and July 2nd, 2024. These sea otters most likely swam down from the closest established sea otter population, which is off of the Olympic coast in Washington state. Oregon has not had a resident population of sea otters for over a century after they were made locally extinct after the maritime fur trade. The non-profit, Elakha Alliance, is working to restore Oregon's sea otter population to make our marine ecosystems more robust and resilient. Learn more: www.oregonseaotters.org
This makes me sooooo beyond happy that I just can't stand it!!!! YES!! 😍😍👏
I really hope they stay and that a female or two show up, then start having pups! They are so very precious and beautiful. 💖
That's great. Let's hope they'll stay and there will be more over time.
Just adorable. Thanks!
They are definitely a charismatic marine mammal.
Wow! It’s been such a long time, waiting for them to return.
This has me so giddy!!! Oh man!! That's awesome! Look at these two dudes~
Happy to hear it brought a smile to your face 😄
Absolutely Awesome!
We love the opportunity to see our recent visitors to the Oregon coast up close and personal - but also filmed from a respectful distance.
Very Cool - Would be great to have you on our podcast @DoubleRShow to chat about the recent spotting and the Elakha Alliance generally.
We'd love that. Please reach out to Info@ElakhaAlliance.org so we can schedule that.
