- This is the second of several videos that I'm producing showing strategies that will earn a FOXHOUND Rank in MGS3. All footage comes from the HD Collection, and I've tried to narrate as much relevant information as possible.
This video revisits the opening of Operation Snake Eater as well as the Ocelot Unit fight. - เกม
hands down the most comprehensive analysis i have ever seen, your demonstrations of potential outcomes when things go wrong truly demonstrates your skill and understanding
your understanding of game mechanics is nothing short of brilliant
i take my hat off you sir
(never really been one to comment and suck up to people but dude you killed it)
i like the part when they all just start falling asleep they're like dominoes
This is the canonical Foxhound guide and James is great. The under the bed strategy is certainly the fastest and safest method I’ve found, and the general insights into mechanics in this series are brilliant.
Things to note, as I’m sure people use this still and I see it being recommended semi-regularly:
- before you jump out the window, (assuming everyone is ZZZ already and there are 4 remaining), quickly knock 3 times on the wall next to the locker to make certain the sniper is on that side of the roof when you dive. Depending on the timing of your bed antics, especially if it takes too long, he might be in a position to see you when you dive.
- the most likely guards to not come into the room are those outside the window. If you’ve handled all the guards who came in the room but there are more than 4 left, peek up out the window left and right to cap the extra dude
- you can snipe with a combo of the scope and the mk22. With the Mk22 also equipped, open the scope, zoom and mark your target, then manually de-select (ie hold L2 and scroll to none) and *immediately* hold R1. Your aim will be on the mark, just shoot.
- the approach to the last two guards is baffling. There’s *absolutely* no need to lure that southwest guard by the corner of the wall like that. Just snipe him from far across the lawn. Likewise, the far west guard by the fence should not be approached on the steps like that either, it’s totally unnecessary and very risky. Just run along the south fence after taking out the aforementioned guard, roll to crouch before the middle tree+grass patch to avoid his line of sight, crawl to the barrels and shoot him from behind. Or, you can snipe him with the scope by finding a good angle from far away. The broken ledge on the outside east side of the brick wall works for this.
- the southeast corner guard has a Mk22 silencer. This is one of the quickest and lowest risk ways to get one. It’s his second drop. With this, you’ll be able to fairly liberally use the Mk22 until after The Fury
- the smoke grenade offers no tactical advantage whatsoever. Just stay under the bed until they’re all tranqed, make sure there are 4 remaining, and knock on the south wall by the locker before you leave.
This is super cool! I really enjoyed reading all of it. The scope/Mk22 swap trick in particular is new to me. I'm looking forward to trying it out when I play next!
I know it's been 3 years but when you say the smoke grenade doesn't offer tactical advantage does that imply they are pretty useless
sometimes I try to use smoke to cover movements and it seems iffy at best
I never knew those extra shots fired were to break down the locker. I always heard that and thought it was ambiance to signify that Eva is running around somewhere.
You are awesome! I love how informative you are, it's like I'm watching a tutorial on how to become a badass.
The way you took out the Ocelot by tranquilizing their feet was brilliant sir.
What a splended way to demostrate skills! you really are--good as player will ever be! good job sir! your effort is on the highest phase, MGS 3 is one of kind in terms of story. peace out!!!
what an awesome strategies you use!!
smoke grenade is a masterpiece in this part!!!!
knoking & break the glass before saving!! that was intelligent stuff!!
tranquilizing the 5 ocelot soldiers under the bed & watching them fall one by one that was hilarious!!
anyway this walkthrough is incredible,it includes all the stuff you need also it allow you to use many strategies!!
you're a master in this game James Howall!!
You make highly detailed and awesome quality videos. You deserve more views and subscribers.
these guides are great , amazing work
i really badly need help with the fury, i'm stuck so i hope your video for that section of the game is up pronto, also, your guides are the best i've ever seen.
I know your comment is crazy old so this is for people who might be scrolling through. The fury drove me crazy until I realized you can lay down in the doorway and tranq him while wearing olive drab and black face paint. He will never spot you and then it’s a matter of patience
@@mrjosh92100 hmmm even on extreme? I don't think I ever did get foxhound rank.
Wow, Smoke Nades are almost as OP in this game as they are in Peace Walker! c:
James,
Just thought I'd point out, at the last guard ( 14:35 ), you can lure the guard simply by sidling the crates and "peeking" with the L2 button. He'll get a green alert point above his head and will walk around the FRONT of the ruins, where the previous guard's starting position. I hope that makes sense. :P
Depending when or where you are, and if you alternate where you go and what you do at any given time, enemies routines change slightly
Man your awesome the stuff you know great walkthrough
Bro your a genius, sure deserves the big boss title.
I feel very basic watching your walkthrough compared to how I did it. I just wait under the bed, throw a stun when they blast the door down. Stun them with the MK22, crawl under the escape hatch and just tranq the rest keeping my distance and using the L2 and R2 pop out trick. You've certainly put your time in!
Excellent work, keep it up!
You sir have earned your self a sub.... Fantastic job!!! :)
That smoke grenade, awesome stuff!
My Fave game of all time. I have bested The End, in every single way possible. :)
I don't use the Tiger Stripe since I got the DPM and Flecktarn Camo. They give a better Camo Rating when on Grass and stuff. :D
10:25 Let's check every hiding spot ever BUT that random box over there :D
2:20
Go back to the swamp, now go back north
.-. are you real? Men, by almost 9 years i play this game i did not know that shit.
with that voice, i want you to become famous so you can dual coom with Xboxahoy, you both togheter, would make not only my day, but my week :3
good job man
DAMN YOU'RE GOOD. REAL GOOD
Your walkthrough is very good. I'm having trouble anyway, tho. Whenever I use the stun grenade in dolidnovodno, I don't knock out either of the guards and they aren't blinded, either.
VERY GOOD VIDEO!
How did you develop your incredible awareness of guard behaviour to make so many different good strategies?
Meticulous, i like it!
omg dude your really amazing
16:24 The cardboard box on the bed. So unsuspicious :-D
Like a Boss... a Big Boss!
You are so pro.
During the fight with the Ocelot unit, will the Ocelots always blast down the locker door? I had one experience on Hard difficulty where the Ocelots did shoot the door, but didn't knock it off its hinges.
Hey Chan I am subscribed to you! Post some more videos!
you're pretty good
It's an edited version of Volgin's fight theme
They only knock down the locker in european extreme?. I played in normal and hide in the locker and remember only one shot the locker and then they all leave the room
for a xbox user the r1 while in the locker does not work
At 19:11 that last guard is like "fml"
19:11... hm the m1911, the same gun eva gives you like an hr earlier...coincide? ?
I have been running through these different strategies and just testing each one to try to get a handle on it and so far most of them have gone pretty smoothly.
However the strategy involving the stun grenade at the bridge keeps eluding me.
I throw the grenade and time it so I start moving just as the grenade is about to go off. 1 guard is knocked out and I beeline for the last guard, but he always seems to come to and face me when I am way out of cqc range. I noticed that this has happened before where a guard has suddenly spotted me, but I noticed that other guards were still rubbing their eyes. Is there something about how a stun grenade goes off that makes the distraction period inconsistent?
Maybe it has something to do with the grenade’s range of effect? I don’t think the guards have different stamina values, so I would guess it’s a combination of their proximity to the explosion & some RNG relating to them walking into range at the right time - a surprise, to be sure, since I tried to “RNG-proof” these strategies. Thanks for sharing this! Always a pleasure to hear how these fare in the wild.
@@ShockleyHaynes Thank you for the reply. These videos are so old I figured any reply I got would be from another passerby.
Luckily I actually figured out what was happening. I was throwing the grenade too close to the guard on the left, so the one on the right didn't turn when it landed and was only affected by the noise part of the stun.
This guy is a god
Senin oyunundaki kamera çok yakın karaktere. Benim kamera çok uzakta gösteriyor karakteri yakın göstermiyor. Ps2de oynuyorum nasıl yakın kameraya alacağım? PLEASE HELP
Hey dude from one walkthrougher to another You are really Good I will make a shout out to you on my channel since I have thousands of Subs and maybe I can get you more recognition
Centerstrain01 nice guy :)
did you do a walk-through for a no kill walk-through
dear james, how did you make snake cough?
iphrank by running into the smoke cloud.
Smoke grenade.
day 1 of commenting until new foxhound run
Hey whats that music that you used for the reveal of the ocelot unit at 9:03 ?
how i hated this part...especially that bloke on the rooftop
This video is why I think Portable Ops isn't a good Metal Gear game. Very few of the gadgets that are at your disposal are useful, Thermal goggles are a joke especially.
