    Finally a good review on the X1 Gen 10, been searching for the whole day and they're all either ad-like or just talk, barely showing the laptop. subbed

    Intel P series takes 25 watts over previous gen U series that ran at 15. They aren’t going to driver their way back down. They need more power and heat to show gen on gen performance gains.

    Thanks Lon You hit all the points I was interested in great job. I agree with your assessment on work to be done by Intel and working with Microsoft in others to get the battery performance improved. Also PC Magazine gave this a five out of five review which is very rare for them

    Could you Please tell me, does the laptop have the rubbery coating material that is soft on touch or is it more plasticky? I have seen both in X series. I am trying so hard to find the laptop with that nice rubbery coating, but no luck.

    I've had this thing for about a week and can kill it within 3-4 hours of heavy usage. Max brightness with lots of tabs running doing simple work. I'm hoping it gets better with time but to purchase a $1700 laptop that dies in 4, maybe 5 hours max is not awesome.

    • @ThinKkBIGG
      @ThinKkBIGG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same with the X1 Yoga Gen 7 and with overheating issues. How are the temperature levels with your version?

    • @SenkenTheEnken
      @SenkenTheEnken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThinKkBIGG super hot. I have any technical temperature readings but I can tell you that it gets so hot that I need to allow it to cool down a bit before I start working again.

    • @ThinKkBIGG
      @ThinKkBIGG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SenkenTheEnken The concept is very similar to the X1 Yoga Gen 6 and 7 and the 7 overheats. There was an update recently which improves the situation but if you work with it at all or just do a simple scan with Vantage then it overheats. Impossible to leave it on the thighs. I can't imagine anyone trying to play with this computer.

    • @SenkenTheEnken

      @@ThinKkBIGG I just decided to return it because for $1600 with i7 and 16 GB RAM laptop in 2022 to get that hot and battery only last 4 hours of real world use... I just couldn't justify keeping it and may look to just buy the gen 9 whenever there's a great deal.

    • @ThinKkBIGG
      @ThinKkBIGG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SenkenTheEnken Same for the X1 Yoga! What have you decided to choose? I hesitated to take HP Specter X360 but I wonder if I really need the tablet format. I absolutely need touch, but could I manage with a side-by-side styler and a touch screen? I liked that the X1 Yoga had a pen slot. But the issue of warmth and durability is very important to me. I'm thinking maybe go with an X1 Extreme Gen 5 if the reviews are good. I find it a shame because if the battery and the heat respected what Lenovo had announced, then the X1 Yoga was really great. The 4k OLED screen is superb as well as the aluminum finish.

    Lenovo should've gone with Alder Lake-U instead of the hotter and more power hungry Alder Lake-P for this. It clearly can't cool the 28-64W chip, and if this really is an "executive laptop", there really is no need for anything beyond typing emails and joining Zoom/Team/Meet calls. Maybe they could've even set the TDP at 5-9W and made it fanless.

  • @CF542
    @CF542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I purchased the 9th gen version during an impressive sale not long after its release. I was extremely disappointed with just how bad the laptop performed. The battery life was one major sticking point and it had two more serious flaws that Lenovo could not address so I sent it back. For the money, I hate to say it, but a MacBook Air is vastly superior. If you can get away with running Windows on ARM for your business needs via Parallels, then you'll really enjoy the MacBook line for about the same money.

      As a consultant I have to use both Mac and Windows. The choice of this machine really comes down to whether you need/want to use Windows/Linus or Mac. Clearly Apple has a better integrated solution and their M series has outpaced Windows battery life on Intel/Arm by days. I had an M1 for a couple of years. I've had a lot of Thinkpads, Dells, Msoft etc over the years. I have to agree with the review that this is one of the finest Windows laptops for a variety of reasons. Flexibility of ports and options, (hell Apple just will not put a touchscreen on their Macs as they are moving everyone to iPads in the future). Msoft just can't seem to create an integrated product that matches the Macbook. I've recently owned/sold a Surface 9, terrible keyboard, which is why I've moved back to Lenovo TX1. Lenovo keyboards are a joy to use (as are the Macbooks) But having both USB3 and C along with TB & HDMI for todays' prices just makes way more sense for anyone who is a consultant. No carrying around dongle bags. Anyway, thanks for the review. My latest X1 is on it's way. I'm hoping it lives up to my expectations.

    I have the gen 9 of this, I think lenovo hampers the x1 variants of their laptops by trying to run them quiet. I wouldn't mind this so much if they'd give the owner of the device a choice of max performance or quiet, but their software seems to still prefer running quiet when set to max performance. But that said, I'm still extremely pleased with my x1 gen 9.

    I would expect Fedora to work as they ship a newer kernel.

    • @keyboard_g
      @keyboard_g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@voxtelnismo Not the same version. Distros pull in packages from upstream and stabilize their build, and then ship when ready. Ubuntu plays it more safely, slower, and ports in their own customization. Fedora leans more modern and ships earlier. Distros like Arch and its derivatives are fast and loose shipping within a day or so of a new version.

    As someone who works in IT sales, the X1 Carbon is over priced and meant only for managers who think highly of themselves. The only true value work horse is the T series that sells for almost $1000 less. Considering that most office workers are docked in at the office with 2 or 3 monitors, this makes the weight savings pointless.

    • @gdc1989
      @gdc1989 ปีที่แล้ว

      with most people working in hybrid, you have to actually carry your laptop to work 3 times a week to get docked though.
      Also, managers often live on calls and walking around the office to get on those calls is simply more enjoyable with a lighter laptop with better audio-video capabilites.
      Work on your attitude and you'll also be a manager someday!
