    Friendly reminder to the people harping on about flea & tick treatment: Just like every medication out there, it isn't 100% effective and depending on brand, it can still potentially take a bit of time for the tick to die after its bitten.
    Maybe keep that in mind before you decide to insult the vets or owners of these little creatures that need help, regardless of whether they have preventative or not.

    Bear reminds me so much of my Lab.
    What got me is when the owner said “Anything for Bears health” and when Kate asked how long has he been noticing the lumps and he said Years??? My dog had a small cough and the next day I was at the vet insisting on blood work. The vet didn’t even think it was necessary. Well, when it came back all her levels were through the roof-and her X-ray showed a huge tumor on her lung. It turned out to be cancer and they removed her lung. She lived 3 more great years (on cancer meds) which put her at 14 which is about an age when a normal Lab can pass away but her cancer had taken over. I tell everyone I know that has a Lab to get blood work every 5yrs at least.
    I wonder how long before he takes care of the arthritis issue. We had our girl on glucosamine from when she was 6-7 because they are so prone to arthritis

    • @iSheree
      @iSheree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      He said he noticed them MORE over the last few years. There is nothing indicating that they haven't been seen by a vet. He's come in because of the larger one which probably got bigger and he started to worry it might have turned cancerous. I wouldn't be so quick to judge based on a few minutes of video that was probably cut and edited. Lumps are considered normal for labs, whereas a cough is not... completely different situation for your dog...:) Also in regards to treating the arthritis and pain, "see you tomorrow" probably means he is coming back for that...

    • @HannaBenana
      @HannaBenana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? I noticed my dog's lump right away and took him to the vet, it turned out to be Mast Cell Cancer, very aggressive, he was only 3 and the lump was just mosquito bite sized, the vet thought I was over reacting at first, then said my proactive attitude about it probably saved his life. I'm way too anxious of a person to just let lumps grow unattended, some of the pet owners on shows like these leave stuff way longer than I would be comfortable doing so.

      @injapaw1229 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi all - thank you for your concern. We have been monitoring Bear's lumps and this is not the first time that he has been to the vet in relation to them. In fact he has been multiple times over the past few years. The lump in his side has got noticeably bigger over the past few months so Dr Kate booked him in for a CT scan. In relation to his arthritis he has been taking medication for it since he was 9 months old. He has obviously deteriorated over time and walks quite stiffly. We love our Bear and Bonnie and would do anything for them. 😊

    I looked into kangaroo food but came across some worrying articles about the cruelty and danger of the meat industry. Kangaroos have to be shot in the head, very precise, but hunting is often done at night so shots easily miss and dislocate their jaw, causing a lot of pain. Also a lot of the kangaroo meat is improperly stored for hours in trucks or warehouses where the blood all mixes together from the hanging meat, leading to a lot of deadly bacteria. And only like 2% of stock is inspected because there just aren't enough govt officials to inspect? So anyone considering kangaroo jerky please research it extensively beforehand and consider a different protein source. I haven't watched this whole video but I doubt Bondi Vet mentions anything about the larger implications of kangaroo jerky.

    I rescued a litter of dogs who were going to be murdered by Animal Control because they don't have round the clock staff and won't care for puppies under 4 weeks old. Their mother was hit by a car. One of the males is a cryptorchid. It was a non-event to have his testicle located by ultrasound and surgically removed. In his case, I had a separate surgery for a vasectomy on the second testicle so that he would have his male hormones for development and because he does scent detection working for me. We did not want to interfere with his nose talent, but I also did not want him to breed. Almost zero vets are trained in vasectomy. He certainly does not have the micropenis issue, they do not necessarily go hand in hand. He is thriving and just had his 5th birthday yesterday! Don't worry if this happens to your dog, just get a good surgeon. 🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾. Thanks for raising awareness of this issue @Bondi Vet!

Before them they had a 5 year old Lab German Rottweiler, Buddy and a 17 year old Lab Chow mix Bear. The 5 year old was put down by police order for biting my nephews tongue almost off. The 17 year old died of old age. Before that we didn't have Labs or Lab mixes.

    the undescended testicle isnt a HUGE deal, its called cryptorchidism and is fairly common. it does make surgery for neutering a bit more complicated for male dogs and male cats as surgery for males is usually a lot less invasive but it is a pretty common procedure though and usually goes over fine. i had a white german shepherd that had that issue as a pup and a male stray cat that i once rescued who they both had cryptorchidism and both had the more invasive neutering surgery (where they have to go up in to remove the undescended testicle) both recovered fine and quickly with no issues.

      In adults the reaction is a bit mild, numbness possibly some tingling sensations which could lead to weakness but in children the reaction can be a bit more severe and can lead to loss of movement however once the tick is removed from either a child or adult they'll normally start feeling better within a couple hours; it's important to check children for ticks especially if you have paralysis ticks in the area cause the reaction can be quite severe but also, if on long enough can transmit other illnesses.
      It's best that after the tick is removed that they make a appointment with their doctor, take the tick with them, just so the doctor can confirm the type of tick and can make sure that there are no diseases and everything is fine but this bit is just the mom in me. 😊 Hope this helps!
