    Great video once again. Agree with the Habit Rouge statement. It smells "dated", but in a very classy and elegant way

    Thank you for the video. I just bought Eau Sauvage EDT to wear at my wedding next month.
    I'd like to say I will no longer annoy my fiancée anymore by thrusting my arm towards her and asking what she thinks of this one, but I think I have a new hobby now.

    I absolutely love pour Monsieur edt and wear Habit Rouge 😍I know they are meant for men, but i can't help it: i love smelling them!

    Thanks for reviewing these classic fragrances, Pep. Unfortunately, many people in the fragrance community are extremely narrow-minded and hold the ridiculous belief that none of the fragrances came out before 2000 can possibly be any good and they're missing out on a whole whole world of amazing fragrances.Instead of wearing Sauvage like millions of schoolboys or identikit sweet synthetic bubblegum fragrances they should dare to different and wear fragrances like Chanel Pour Monsieur, Eau Sauvage, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Kouros, Fahrenheit or Le Male.

    Nice Tribute! Ah, the classics. Now with the explosion of fragrances available, I wonder what will become classics in another 50+ years. I, like many of you, am so happy that I live in a time to have these readily available and we can keep that Mad Men feeling alive.

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isn't nice to know the real Madmen might have worn some of these.

    I agree nothing has topped that Guerlain Vetiver

    Great video Pep! I have no experience with vintage formulas of any of these either. Current iterations Vetiver and Eau Sauvage will always be in my rotation. Not a fan Habit Rouge and Pour Monsieur. I never heard of Eau D’Hermes, so I’ll have to give that a try.

      I always interpreted Hermès’ contributions to perfume as a cynical “jump on the perfume bandwagon” money grab. I had no idea of the significant historical contributions. I need to check out some of Hermès’ creations :)

    After thirty years of being a perfume addict and having smelt and owning hundreds and hundreds of fragrances niche and designer Habit rouge continues to be my all time favourite..along with a recently bought pour Monsieur edp that I’ve fallen in love with

  • @frogjoy7
    @frogjoy7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was so interesting, thank you! I know so little about vintage perfumes. A lot of the classics that I’ve tried are a bit heavy for me, but I’ll bet I’d find more if I looked harder. I do have a small sample of Fracas that I want to spend some more time exploring. I think that one’s technically from the 40s though

    LOVE this video, Pep! I have 4 out of 5 of these classics, with the exception of the Hermes. I encourage you to the Pour Monsieur edp as well.

    Nice video 👌, thanks for sharing. I love wearing Vetiver in he summer, and want to try the Hermes one. The other ones are also really lovely classics. I have a vintage Eai Sauvage, and it's indeed more mossy and animalic, but it has also lost some of its beautiful bergamot top notes. The modern iteration of it is definitely great.

    The picks of destiny and yea the edt came 1st with habit rouge with the edp coming in the 2000's i think? Love Habit Rouge.

    I just bought the Habit Rouge EDT after all these years of wondering what it smelled like. It would have smelled great on my dad, and although I find it really interesting I'm not sure I will wear it that much. I did order the new flanker but haven't received it yet and it seems to be getting some rave reviews. Loved the video, Pep!

  • @adrianpocea2287

    The problem with the vintage ones that we get today is that they lost part of the top notes( talking about citruses being more intense in the new ones, of course, they are fresh out of production), they " thickened ", so they kinda lack their full past glory. I have both vintage Antaeus and Tsar and I know them VERY WELL from the past, as I wore them extensively, and they don't have the same " fill the room with a blast" power.
    So I guess the comparison is most of the times unfair
    I would have placed Pour un Homme de Caron here. Have the vintage and ABSOLUTELY love it. It's in a way the first " gourmand" for me, smells like a pantry with lavender home made soap and an opened vanilla essence bottle

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, for this video i was focused on those 50s and 60s releases. But Pour Un Homme is great

    I wonder who else got that Tenacious D reference. 😀 Elegant scents are always more modest though imo. No need to shout like a teenage dirtbag baby. 🍼 Incidentally, just last week I got to try the re-bottled version of LIDG edt, and I actually like the new one better. Definitely a fresher take with more lemony freshness and slightly less cacoa. The balance is still there, but it's clear to me that they tweaked it. Felt a tad lighter too. The old one was a bit flat on me so it appears they fixed it! Might even scoop up a bottle. All the other re-bottled versions smelled the same to me. Yet to try the HB Prive.

    Love a cheeky, clickbatey title. It's notable that Habit Rouge continues to generate the most flankers of the five despite being the more commercially challenging outlier.

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wonder if that has anything to do with the flankers, the modernised versions.

    • @-HRH
      @-HRH ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheScentinel Yes it's possible but I find it touchingly romantic that Guerlain doesn't want to drop HR and keeps reinventing it generation after generation in hopes it'll stick. I personally like that stubbornness and quixotic impracticalness.

    Greetings from Greece Pep! I would like to ask you if frageances have an exposing date. Some say that a good perfume expires almost never... A friend of mine once told me that a good way to preserve a fragrance is to keep it in the fridge, away from high temperatures and sunlight. What is your opinion? Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @AnonymousAnonymous-pe3cz
      @AnonymousAnonymous-pe3cz ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I meant 'expiring date'....

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your friend, but just a cool place instead of a fridge will be ok. But yes. No heat or direct sunlight
