I love how Ogryn have had an increase in intelligence in recent days. At first they had just enough braincells to count to 3, make the same sentences a 5 year old can muster and shoot every bullet they had because "haha! Gun loud!", but now- now they can actually think! Not much, but still. Trigger discipline, philosophy, memories of what momma said years ago, etc. In the ever growing darkness that is 40k, Ogryn are a small but bright light in the shadows. I wonder whether this particular Ogryn had the BONE treatment along with that eye implant, seems a lot of bone eads got bionic implants - would explain why he's so articulate for an ogryn!
@@vincentlee7359 no, they're not the same. Ogryns have been described in the past as essentially giant animals. Relying on instinct most of the time rather than brain power. The "smart" ones are of course the ones that have the bonehead chip installed but "normal" orgyns now can at least speak correctly and think for themselves. They're still dumb but not giant beasts in the shape of a humanoid. They're more like giant 7 year old's.

I always love when people in command respect Ogryrns, they may be slow but they love so deeply and are so selflessly loyal to there friends, and as shown by this one can even out muscle and take down space marines if they get into close combat. I honestly would of read a whole series just about Ms Elise and her Ogryrn bodyguard ☺️
Course they can, Space Marines are 2.3 meters tall, most Ogryns if they're not hunched down too much are around 3 meters tall and about half a meter wider than most space Marines, it'd be like an Ork Nob bearing down on a Marine, they can rip em limb from limb if they get their hands on em, it's just usually they get hit with a bolter shell before they can get the chance or the marine has a superior melee weapon than a combat knife and several hundred years of melee experience. But like all things Space Marines aren't invincible. If they're caught out in the open and are unfortunate enough to be at a disadvantage in reach or leverage, they're going to get bodied by those adorable lugs.
Back when I still played the table top game, a friend of mine found out the hard way to neve mix Commissars and Ogryn bodyguards in the same command squad. In those days at least, if a squad's morale broke an attached commissary would automatically execute the squad leader to keep the squad from retreating.Ogryn bodyguards auto-attacked anyone in melee distance who killed their VIP, so a bad leadership check would result in the commissar killing your army's leader and then immediately getting pasted by the Ogryn standing 2 feet away.

I really loved this. As much as a person could, I believed this was an Ogryn telling me his story. Very wholesome, and as much as a lore casual can, I appreciated the care taken to ground the story in the universe.
I could not agree more. The level of soul felt in the words and writing of this is breathtaking. You truly did breath life into this piece. You didn’t just make it feel like he was telling a story but reflecting on a lifetime of experiences. I wish everyone could appreciate your work.
I always loved the Imperial Guard. As a 6'5" large man, I always loved the Ogryn. Especially knowing how they are, and how loyal that can be. Hearing this story killed me. Holding back tears, hearing the loyalty of a simple soldier, that was just there to help the ones that were kind to him. Such innocence should be so closely guarded in the GrimDark.
I'm only 5'10, but I've had the "large guy" frame my whole life. I legitimately have trouble walking through door ways straight on my shoulders and back are so broad. I've always been freakishly strong. As a kid I was able to lift other kids up above my head. I was also in martial arts from a young age and always considered myself to be the protector and guardian of my friends. I'm decently intelligent, I've worked in aerospace and other complicated professions. But I've always felt my best characteristics were my loyalty and willingness to defend and protect the weak and innocent at any cost. I've been reading up on Ogryns a lot lately. They're starting to really steal my heart. Stuff like this just paints how pure hearted these guys actually are. They're about as pure hearted as a real warrior/soldier can get. At the end of the day, when violence is involved, if you have any love or compassion in your heart, you have to find ways to justify, normalize, and even trivialize what you're doing. They enjoy battle and conflict, but not for the blood shed, simply because they get to be who they are. Unbridled potential. A true machine bred for purpose. Like a thorough bred race horse. It cares not for the shady betting, cares not for the rain. Cares not for the result, cares not for the crowd. It simply wants to perform because that's what it has spent it's life training to do. Ogryns may enjoy the blood shed and laugh a little at their exploits, but at the end of the day, they're fighting because they love their small'uns and simply want to protect them. They have this very Lenny and the bunny vibe, without accidentally snapping it's neck. This shit made me cry. It's so wholesome. I want an ogryn friend
The greatest thing about this is the lines are delivered so well and with such feeling I can *see* the ogryn telling the story. I can see him sitting on the edge of his cot, bent over this tiny vox recorder in his palm extra carefully because he doesn't want to break it and upset Elise. I can see the emotions on his big face as his mind occassionally drifts a bit before he corrects himself. My favorite part is when he mentions fighting chaos marines In melee because i know he sat up and puffed his chest out in pride because he knows that was a hard fight.
This made me think Ogryns would be very physical story tellers. Big movements and small gestures. Agreed. The voice actor breathes life into it. Makes it real. Well done.
The emotional part is his not understanding his family is already gone from the Cadia Massacre. He keeps on because he has a small understanding of loss but not the finality of death. He lost Lurch that day against the Black Legion, It affected him. He has a loss of morale like real military people possesses. The Commissar wants to see her family in her version of Heaven, hence, "she can't see it..." But he understands because he, "misses his mother and sister too." Knowing that souls go to the warp is crushing where it's basically hell for all that die. That makes this that much heavier on the observer knowing. "If there's a bully, it's an Ogryn's job to stop em"...and I miss momma....
@@historytank5673 depends on which source we’re talking about. 40k lore is almost as fractious as Elder Scrolls, much of it can be considered in-universe propaganda. This deserves an Oscar for Animated Short story. There are archetypes here that touch the subconscious. Deeply. The team of artists that created this masterpiece have been touched by the light of the Emporer.
His simplicity gives him unique perspective and wisdom, laced with emotional depth that's difficult for other characters in this universe to reach. The best thing about Ogryn is despite their reputation for low intelligence, they really are thought provoking at times.
people over value how complicated things are to give them a place in a hierarchy made by those that wouldn't survive 1 month if only given their 2 hands and the wilderness. we have allowed the weak and feeble to decide what intelligence and strength is. that is why our systems are failing and people are lost. you cant have direction and purpose if you are following those who had none and have none.
SLOW CLAP...This my good sir, was a piece of character development that most writers strive for their entire career. It was flawless! The accent, the brutality and humor mixed in with some humanity and pulling of heart strings at the end was genuine 40K. Your reward should be Rogal Dorns hand, but a like will have to suffice. Keep this narrative as an ongoing series, we lore lovers absolutely love it.
I'm gonna be "that guy" because a slow clap is a sarcastic clap, a derogatory clap. You slow clap someone who thinks they're funny or clever to sarcastically say they are neither. Just my 2 pence worth m8.
I love these interpretations of Ogryn. Not drooling, stupid animals, but abhumans who are just a little slower on the take than the rest. It also helps that it reminds me of Forrest Gump, one of my favorite movies.
I hope, that after Darktide, where Ogryns are able to support a coherent conversation, this kind of portrayal would be more and more normalized. Luv me Ogryns, luv me Emprah.
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 ones from Darktide are definately more intelligent on that spectrum. Ones, like Orcan Stonecrushers, are definately on lower end.
The Ogryns in Darktide...are like the 1% of their kind.. The 0.01% of Ogryns with the highest intelligence when compared to a regular human is very very very low. Like the effects you used and the inflections you put on the voice. You captured those gentle giants well Warrior Tier! This was a treat to listen to! That last bit was a chef's kiss as well, a last bit of wholesomeness to end it on.
Every reference to Cadia was a stab in the heart. Talking about the drill sergeant being Cadian and home with his family when the Legion attacked was sad, but then the "I hope he's ok" was just the coffin nail.
If i were sitting there, listening to this large beast of a man tell that story, I honestly would think I'd be giving him a big hug. That is the bravest thing I've heard in a universe where every faction has a tiny of evil in them. It's be that Ogryn's friend to the bitter end. He'd be my "Bigun".
Abso-fragging-lutely! I once read that loyalty buys loyalty, but a friend corrected me by pointing out "No, loyalty _earns_ loyalty!" This gentle just earned mine.
The only bad in an Ogryn is a healthy dose of Schadenfreude, it's just beyond funny when the Bad Ones gets hurt while trying to hurt you or your friends.
And because its 40k.... When you die... the Ogryn would be sad beyond measure, his large heart cracking as big tears roll down his face... only to be replaced by Indescribable rage towards the one who killed you. A single minded purpose of absolute slaughter to the one to hurt his friend would take hold. an enraged Ogryn is nothing to just shrug off either... they can, and have, downed space marines and other unnatural horrors in such a rage.
Honestly, learning about the 40k universe by following an Ogryn would be a really good concept It would be a great way to onboard people new to the setting since the Ogryn wouldn't really know what's going on either (and so provide a good excuse for some in-universe exposition), but they would also have a really good reason to be heading to important locations and battles since they have a history of distinguished service
I never knew i wanted to hear this so bad until finishing it. What a roller-coaster of emotion. Never smiled so much while fighting back tears. Happy and sad all in one, Emperor protect these big love bugs...they're needed more than anyone might know. Such a good story. I hope he gets to see his momma and sister again soon...

I love the personality in the voice acting, like how despite the fact he doesn't understand much there's still a life that was lived and a simple but nevertheless intimate world that he's formed with those he's close to. Not to mention the repetition of certain names showing their importance to him.

It's only been recently where it has been changed to that ogryns are now decently capable thinkers. The "smart" ones are of course the ones that have the bonehead chip installed but "normal" orgyns now can at least speak correctly and think for themselves. They're still dumb but not giant beasts in the shape of a humanoid. They're more like giant 7 year old's.
pretty sure its just this particular ogryn that's on the brighter side,
That hasn't really changed, it's just that we only really hear the stories of the extra, extra special, super smart Ogryn. The fact that this one could beat a Chaos Marine in close quarters combat and only lost an eye is testament enough for that.

@@michaelatkins1698 lore wise it is not but I love them chewing up space marine in dawn of war.

The emotional part is his not understanding his family is already gone from the Cadia Massacre. He keeps on because he has a small understanding of loss but not the finality of death. He lost Lurch that day against the Black Legion, It affected him. He has a loss of morale like real military people possesses. The Commissar wants to see her family in her version of Heaven, hence, "she can't see it..." But he understands because he, "misses his mother and sister too." @@historytank5673 depends on which source we’re talking about. 40k lore is almost as fractious as Elder Scrolls, much of it can be considered in-universe propaganda. Which is handy considering a certain spiritual liege’s… “inspired” lore.
I think it’s atleast established that loyal servants of the Emperor get protected in the Warp, so they’re probably all right.
@@Scatmanseth from what I know is if you allow chaos into you and go full hard core your souls demon toy, if you are possesed or corrupted or die normally your off to the warp area that’s not fucked.

I really love how modern ogryn adaptations don't make them sound or think like 5-year-olds. More simple-minded than anything and I'm all for it.
I read somewhere that thanks to the great rift opening Ogryns went from an IQ of 10 to an IQ of 20. They're slowly becoming Human-Orks (No not fucking Digganobz) in intelligence.
@@devastater97 Imagine smart-ish ogryn with implants stimulating his brain (bone'ead) o.O
I like the newer version
canonically the ogryn are not actually less intelligent then average humans. their minds just have a narrow focus on very pragmatic things
@@nonimport-ante not true they are dumber. Just not as dumb as people usually think.
“I miss Momma” at the end made me cry omg this story is so good
I loved the part with Lurch.
"She said he died a hero, i dont want 'ere none of that."
You could hear the sadness in his voice and dying a hero made no difference to him. His friend died that day.
Beautiful writing
Thank you so much Jacob 🙏🙏🙏
It hit me because even as much as he cares for and respects Ms Elis, he still didn't want to be bothered by the fact he died a hero!
This deserves an Oscar for Animated Short story. There are archetypes here that touch the subconscious. Deeply.
The team of artists that created this masterpiece have been touched by the light of the Emporer.
I really appreciate that, thank you so much brother! ✊
this is no joke one of the best 40k stories I've ever listened to.
I really appreciate it Micky 🙏🙏🙏
Keep this narrative as an ongoing series, we lore lovers absolutely love it.
honestly same
Goddamn right
I'm gonna be "that guy" because a slow clap is a sarcastic clap, a derogatory clap.

I mean there is definitely a spectrum of Ogryn intellect.
Depends of their home world I guess.
If Forest Gump was an Ogryn, he'd be given a high rank for his intelligence...which would be the highest of all Ogryns.
Ogryns are extremely, stupid in the lore. The ones who can think are a living miracle.
I must have listened to this at least 10 times by now. The part that gets me is the when he lost Lurch. “ Elise told me he died a hero but I don’t want to hear that.” As a soldier who’s lost brothers in arms, that line cut. Great job with this and hopefully we’ll hear more of him again.
I respect that to the max.
I would love to hear why that line in particular was so powerful to you. I've seen it Resonate with some other folks too.
If you don't want to, I completely get it.
Wish you the very best! 🙏

what a masterpiece, it really made me cry and to know that they are Cadian, and to know that Elise had a daughter... damn it really hit in the heart...

This changed the way i view Ogryns. I love them to death, and i love Salamanders in the same way.
I even showed this to my Mum, who avidly dislikes Warhammer. She has stated for the record this is the first thing she has watched about WH that she has thoroughly enjoyed.
Ave Warrior Tier.
That’s amazing to read brother, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I am grateful for your support brother 🙏🙏🙏
mee too man, me too... * sob*
You should give the Gav and Bob trilogy a listen, left me a wreck after. Ogryns are the one pure and wholesome part of the grimdark.

Poor Arry, Bob and Tarla. Tarla got the shortest end of the stick.

"And I miss momma"
Well that hit me right in the feels
Ogryns are some of the purest, most honest, most lovable characters in all of 40k. I have to be careful when I listen to Ogryn's stories because they always bring me close to tears.
I miss momma, man I never cried so hard in my life
I’m sorry brother, I hope you enjoyed the video, def didn’t want to ruin your day or anything my friend
Listen to Gav and Bob stories. They are good but they'll get you right int he feels.
@WarriorTier it took me a while to reply but you didn't do anything wrong it reminds me of when I was in The Army my first thought was always of my mom, I feel like icelet her down though because I didn't do better to make sure I stayed in and to do better to help her
Fucking hell bro. That was fucking epic. An ogryn telling us his life as a member of the AM is something else. I shed a tear when I heard he was from Cadia, especially when I heard he missed his Momma. But it does explain why's he's a Badass, Cadians are a different breed.
Thank you so much brother ✊
@@WarriorTier nah man thank you.

Thank you so much for watching!
Like the effects you used and the inflections you put on the voice. You captured those gentle giants well Warrior Tier! This was a treat to listen to! That last bit was a chef's kiss as well, a last bit of wholesomeness to end it on.
Sad too as he's Cadian.
Every reference to Cadia was a stab in the heart. Talking about the drill sergeant being Cadian and home with his family when the Legion attacked was sad, but then the "I hope he's ok" was just the coffin nail.
idk why but i read this comment in the ogryn voice lol
If i were sitting there, listening to this large beast of a man tell that story, I honestly would think I'd be giving him a big hug. That is the bravest thing I've heard in a universe where every faction has a tiny of evil in them. It's be that Ogryn's friend to the bitter end. He'd be my "Bigun".
Abso-fragging-lutely!
I once read that loyalty buys loyalty, but a friend corrected me by pointing out "No, loyalty _earns_ loyalty!" This gentle just earned mine.
I would die for this ogryn, id take a bolter shot for him if it meant saving him.
*Big'un
This deserves an award, this deserves to be a film or a show about this particular ogryn.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Honestly, learning about the 40k universe by following an Ogryn would be a really good concept
It would be a great way to onboard people new to the setting since the Ogryn wouldn't really know what's going on either (and so provide a good excuse for some in-universe exposition), but they would also have a really good reason to be heading to important locations and battles since they have a history of distinguished service
Salamanders and Ogryns fighting side by side just feels right. It's an escape from grim darkness
Thank you so much Duke 🙏🙏🙏
Think his momma and sister were there when Cadia, uh, "went away".
I'm sure his momma and sister are in a better place.
They are with the emperor now:) its okay big guy, youllmeet them eventually.
Same here, I lost the fight partway through, but the smile never left my face, amazing work here.
I love how evertime he quotes his mom it’s the same picture I can imagine him actually doing that pose
Heh he is isnt he
I know, right? He's perfect with his timing in those images. Like the only time he used an image of an ogryn lookin menacing, the one time the big galoot threatened that engine ear.
"Before home went away forever"
Oh! Right in the feels!

Imperial Ogryns - the most wholesome characters of heart in WH 40k. You'll find no better friend or worse of an enemy than an Ogryn. See that you choose well.

I love the personality in the voice acting, like how despite the fact he doesn't understand much there's still a life that was lived and a simple but nevertheless intimate world that he's formed with those he's close to.
Not to mention the repetition of certain names showing their importance to him.
