If you're wondering why the music is not bad: It's because it's all composed and arranged by Nintendo veteran Hirokazu Tanaka, who made a hell of a lot of Pokemon music for Japan including most of the anime opening/ending songs for many years (about 1997 to 2014?). The thing right at the end is a TV ad for the Pokemon TCG, featuring the song "Torikaekko Please", also performed by Suzukisan and was released as a single in 1998. After finding MP3s of the Japanese Pokemon anime songs in the early 2000s, I went deep down the rabbit hole of all this other strange musical nonsense surrounding the franchise. I never got to see this full video until now though, thanks!
Hes kinda OP/ED-only composer (*uptil X&Y), no wonder i never looked for him. Heard Miyazaki more in terms of tv anime. edit: you can see him on the 3rd line here 25:15
@@ionlywatch Yes, I meant Tanaka did the songs for TV series, not the incidental music. But he also did things like in this video, which was music to promote the TCG more than something directly related to the anime.
The Gastly part, where they're saying "paint it black" - am I hallucinating or is the riff on the back an homage to the rolling stones song? (Around 14:15) Phenomenal video, absolutely blown away by this. Thanks for posting it! (Also here from Gongo - thanks Sphynx!)
I'd say so. However I'm not sure if "Pokemon Ieru ka na?" ever appeared as part of the TV series in the same way. It appeared as a b-side to the first anime OP single (which was a top 10 hit in Japan), this video, and Pokemon song compilation albums, but not sure where else.
