I agree. Without Japan, there would be no Pokemon or Digimon, just that alone, think about how much worse our millennial childhood would be? Japan to me is the most important country in the world.

Greetings from Athens! My history of animation professor showed us this video in class today :) Thanks for putting it together, I loved seeing the evolution and all the anime openings I recognize :)
I am Polish. Japan saved 765 Polish orphans in 1920 and 1922. The orphan was in Siberia. Japanese continued to rescue Polish orphans in Siberia. The smallest orphan that Japan saved was a two-year-old child. Polish orphans were sent to Japan for treatment. Japan fed the Polish orphans a hot meal every day. All Polish orphans have recovered. Japan continued to love Polish orphans very much. All Japanese donated money to save Polish orphans. Polish orphans were always smiling. Japan has successfully returned 765 Polish orphans to Poland. I will not forget this story. Thanks to Japan. God bless Japan.
I'm so glad that Sally the Witch, Rose of Versailles, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Madoka were included! Thank you for paying homage to the popular shoujo works as well. :)
My first exposure to anime was Pokemon, DBZ, Tenchi Muyo and Gundam Wing. That was back in late 90's early 2000's. Then I stopped watching for a few years and got back into it around 2006 - 07. I was nearly crying when I saw Code Geass because it was that that drove me into a full time anime fan for years to come
@@natwel1544 yes the Toonami segment on Cartoon Network. Thats where anime started for a lot of people in my generation. Then you had Pokemon which was too popular for Toonami so it was aired on Sky One twice a day I believe which I reckon they would have had a spike in viewership on those times
my first anime is salor moon, dr slump. Dragon Ball make me hook on anime, pokemon make me crazy for pikachu bath towel and color pic and naruto make me crazy for story plotline.

Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy, Kimba, Princess Knight, etc., was a successful manga artist, but he was deeply moved by Disney animations such as Pinocchio(1940), and became the founder of today's Japanese anime culture.
Dude I didn't know that but Heidi was my fav show when I was a kid I watched it together with my mom man those good times thanks for making me remember that
As a kid living with 80s-2000s animes this brings so much memory 😭 I was born in 2000s but I just realize I watch animes that realeased way back when my parents were still kids 😬

Happy to see Gegege no Kitaro on this list. That anime gets a reboot every decade (1971/1985/1996/2007/2018), and definitely deserves its recognition. After all there are statues in Japan of Kitaro and companions, and the Kitaro manga in 1960. Such a beloved anime in Japan.

I grew up with anime during he early 1990s and around 2000. Dragon Ball, Sailor, Gundam, and Pokemon were four of the main legendary anime shows that brought anime to the U.S. and other countries during the 1980 and 1990s. When Dragon Ball Z and other shows aired on Toonami, it was amazing. I remember coming back from school and watching anime from Toonami from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. No such programs exist today. Not even Saturday morning cartoons. This was before the Naruto generation of kids came along. When Naruto first came on Toonami around 2007, that is when it died out. Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing 00, G Gundam, Cyborg 009, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, and so many other shows that aired back then as a kid. I still prefer 1990s anime style over today's anime. There area few good exceptions such as Fire Force, Sword Art Online, or Demon Slayer. Kids today have no idea how good the 1990s and around 2000 was for anime and cartoons in general. That as the golden era for cartoons. I am not exaggerating. All of this somewhat led to me becoming an animator myself. If my old school had sports, I would have been in track and field, and a running back. I am still run fast. But it was a poor school with no opportunities. So my next option after high school was going into animation and games. I worked at Pixar as an intern in Summer 2019. That was the most amazing experience ever for me in this life so far. San Francisco Bay Area was beautiful. I never thought I would get the chance to see it. Currently, I am working at a game company that is based in Colorado, but I am working remotely in Dallas (I hate it here). These anime shows had such a huge influence on me as a kid. Legendary days. Back when every kid watched Dragon Ball and Power Rangers. Years later in college, I came to discover girls actually watched Dragon Ball back then. But see, back in the 1990s and around 2000, little girls made fun of boys for watching those shows, yet they secretly watched it. hahah.
Melancholy of Haruhi looks like a 2010’s anime. For the longest time I thought it came out in the 2010’s. But no, it came out in 2006… thats pretty amazing
I'm Japanese, born in 1981, and my generation grew up watching Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z from childhood, but overseas, most of the fans are a year younger than me, so most of the anime is from Japan. I think the broadcast start time will be different.

I remember watching Osamu Dezaki's anime on Turkish channels. Amazing stuff: Gamba no Bouken and Takarajima (Treasure Island). It aged well as well. So glad to see Rose of Versailles
I'm from Costa Rica, I was born in 1995, so I grew up watching many of the 80s, 90s and so on shows like Ranma 1/2, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Captain Tsubasa, Pokemon, Saint Seiya, Sakura Cardcaptor, etc. But Heidi was my favorite as a child, it even still runs in some Costa Rican TV channels bc people love it here. Also, minute 4:27 any Gintama fan knows.

It's really rare for such a compilation to see anime like Heidi. It was the very first anime I saw as a kid, along with Vicky the Viking and Maya the Bee.
Such a cool video! Feeling nostalgic despite being born in early 2000s. And music is great. Got a desire to watch more anime of different ages. I wish you'd also mention more modern animes of different genre and style. Nowadays, there are some very good and original works too, not only isekais.
animation rise while manga art getting simpler or more lazy panel. Prime example DS and JJK but i dont blame bc mangaka realise there will be a lesser reader than watcher in future.
I was a 90s kid in Mexico and I grew up watching a lot of those animes from the 60s 70s and 80s. Watching these now took me back, I had no idea they were that old. Gatchaman, Heidi, future boy Conan, Gundam, etc. Those were around Canal 5 and Cable Kin. One that I don’t see here and I liked a lot was the samurai pizza cats. And of course as I became a preteen my favorites Dragon ball series and Ranma, Pokémon and such.

All anime have started from Astro boy. Astro boy started from a comic. And Osama Tezuka have started the Japanese comics and anime culture. No Tezuka, No manga and anime. He’s a legendary.
Everything started with Kim Jong Il. Japan stole animation teachings from him. In all seriousness. Osamu Tezuka didn't invent anime. He just made it cheap and fast enough to broadcast it on television, weekly. Anime existed even back during WW2 but they were more like theatrical releases and not practical for TV anime as we know it.

In these 6 years have shown some of the best anime before that there were also a lot of cool anime, but mostly they were shonen. After 2016, the quality of anime began to deteriorate. For the season could show 1/2 or 0 really good anime and it's very sad...
I mostly grew up watching 2000s-2010s animes (early 2000s kid here, tho one of the first animes I happened to got exposed at was from early 2000s, so yeah that's practically the decade i grew up watching animes from)
@@rayden_1665 2012 onwards IMO started the new revolution in animes with SAO (major improvement quality of animation) followed by AoT in 2013. Ngl if you showed me those animes at the time, I would've counted in into "futuristic looking" stuff & would've never given them both a try (since by that time I would be used to the slow paced, old 2d animation). After AoT this decade animes like JJK and Demon slayer are the only ones who IMO showed a new style & major improvement in anime (the opening song animation of JJK is mad fluid & good with the good amount of lighting & other editing effects + Demon slayer having it's own unique style of animation)

I regained all faith in humanity at seeing Haruhi Suzumiya, not enough people include it when doing a “Best anime of each year” List, Haruhi Suzumiya was literally huge back in 2006, and it’s my favorite anime of all time
Seeing Cardcaptor Sakura back then was mindblowing. The genre was so different than any other anime aired in my country. The art style and animation were so detailed. The soundtracks were epic. It was simply a class of its own. Everyone else’s notebook cover at grade school was either DBZ, Digimon, Pokemon, or Doraemon. Either Shounen genre or anime for kids. Mine: Sakura 😅. First waifu. I could sense that my classmates thought I was weird guy 😂.
I loved that show too. Especially since there was a master and she was not the most powerful. Plus it was unique in the case that the mc was a female character. Great story.
Osamu Tezuka is credited with originating and popularizing the current Japanese method of manga in the 1950s. He is also the person who animated his own original manga works and realized the TV broadcasting system. He was the one who continued to write his original manga work on his sickbed until just before he passed away at the age of 60. He was also the first person to animate Astro Boy, his original manga, for TV in Japan in the 1960s, creating an animation boom in Japan. In the 1950s, the Japanese version of Walt Disney was already in existence in Japan. Without him, Japanese animation would not be what it is today!

I was late 80s early 90s kid from Mexico. My first approach to anime was Saint Seiya (Knights of Zodiac), Dai no Daibouken. then it was Mazinger, Macross, Dragon Ball and DBZ, Sailor Moon, Ranma. Then it came Escaflowne, Evangelion, Cowboy Bepop (on Locomotion), Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha (on Cartoon Network). Later I got into the anime not depending on what TV showed, relying on piracy or the internet the mid 2000. Watched Bleach, began One Piece, Elfen Lied, Hellsing, Fate, Eyeshield 21, etc, etc. I don't watch as much anime today as I used to (hell yeah I'm watching the new version of Dai), but have great memories of all these series.

But see, back in the 1990s and around 2000, little girls made fun of boys for watching those shows, yet they secretly watched it. hahah.
That's so cool

unbelievable fact
→ 1:43 Sazae-san is still on the air in japan.
As a Japanese, I am proud that Japanese animation is loved by the world.

I'm grow up watching 90s and 2000s
Anime and i feel so nostalgic when seeing this
I'm grow up watching 2000s-2016s anime, but I think the best period of anime industry is 2010-2016. In these 6 years have shown some of the best anime before that there were also a lot of cool anime, but mostly they were shonen. After 2016, the quality of anime began to deteriorate. For the season could show 1/2 or 0 really good anime and it's very sad...
@@rayden_1665 1999- 2014
Definitely the best period
@@jirachi-wishmaker9242 agree 100%, but in my opinion until 2016 the best period
I bet we are from all ages and generations here let us unite our passion and love for Anime :D

Astro Boy frame count must be insane for it's fully dynamic animation for its time in the 1960s since its done so manually.
